Obviously 80s F1 gets a lot of my attention but I think the 50s might be the era that fascinates me the most. There's just something so so about it that I don't think could have happened at any point in history.

It's like the whole "look to your left, look to your right, one of these people won't be here at the end of the year" but they didn't quit. They're fucking dead. The other one might be dead too. But 80% of your older brother's classmates died in the war so you can't really complain that you're getting to do something you love. You might survive the F1 season but you've got to do the most batshit road racing event just to tempt fate that little bit more. The only people who are even slightly bothered about trying to not kill people are Mercedes because killing 80 odd people in one race isn't helping their "we're not Nazis anymore" campaign. Ferrari is literally eating his drivers and you're begging for him to eat you too because it's a Ferrari. You and everyone around you has a death wish but you're just little guys and I love you and Taffy is taking everyone to the strip club.

i think the reason why everybody is disinterested in the season is partly because this does not feel like it has begun. not only because of the long breaks, but because the races has felt more like tests to see whats wrong with those regs, and then they proceed to point out 102929 things and try to tweak it and then everyone is angry. the lack of foresight about those regs are the reason f1 is losing their core audience. the moment the focus on racing happens more outside of the track than inside, then it’s done
