There isn’t much to say here. British Columbia is one of the most beautiful places in the world and this video captures all the special moments that this province has to offer. I feel lucky to be able to say that BC is my home.

It has been public knowledge for a while now that the Wu Tang Clan has been working on a new album. What sets this new album apart from all previous albums is the way that it will be released and distributed. The Clan is only planning to produce a single copy of this new secret album. Since hearing this, I have been fascinated to see how this is going to pan out for the Clan. Remember last year how Jay Z decided to flip the music industry on its head by selling the first million copies of his new album Magna Carter Holy Grail to Samsung for a cool $5 million? For all you record industry junkies out there, if you're keeping track that means the album went Platinum before it even went on sale. Samsung then took that album and offered it to their customers for free, 2 days before the album was set to be released. All of this has got me thinking about how much of a coincidence it is that Richard Branson is interviewed in this video. Many people have said that they believe that the mad scientist behind the Virgin brand is interested in following in a similar suit. Either way, I hope that somehow this album is allowed to be heard by the masses.
This is a brilliant campaign that was created by an external agency that is not affiliated with DHL. Either way, they took thermo-active foil and covered large packages with it. Then they stuck those packages in the freezer to turn the foil black. This was done so that each shipping company would only pickup a black box and not a box covered in DHL branding. Once the box was picked up by the competing delivery drivers, since the trucks are not equipped with freezers, the black started to fade back to the DHL branding. By the time the delivery drivers were ready to deliver the package, it was a huge bright DHL billboard.
In January, while I was working for Invoke Media we were approached by Clearly Contacts to produce a 30 second TV spot that would air during the Superbowl in Canada. With a team of 5 of us we were able to create this piece in a little over 4 weeks and I am really proud of it. Take a look!
Most people nowadays had heard about Bitcoin, the peer-to-peer payment system and digital currency. Originally introduced in 2009, it's referred to as a cryptocurrency as it uses cryptography to control the creation and transfer of money. This video does a good job of explaining the overall idea of Bitcoin and how the whole process works.
Vice's new documentary FREE follows 4 of freeski athletes as they attempt to qualify for the US Olympic Freestyle Ski team.
Facebook has announced today that they will be joining the news app category with their new app called Paper and no, it's not this Paper. It filters out your own Facebook news feed and then allows users to choose/customize between Facebook's curated themes that include sports, food, science and photography to name a few. The app looks very similar to Apple's iOS 7 with heavy visuals and soft white icons laid over top. I am interested to see what the Android version will look like, either way this is an interesting play by the folks at Facebook.
Vice has just released a documentary about Kim Dotcom - the man at the centre of the largest copyright case in history. I found this documentary very interesting as the viewer gets to see Kim in a much different light then the media has portrayed him. As he tours Vice around his mega-mansion he talks about online surveillance, file sharing and copyright - and raises some valid points. Oh and he has announced that he's forming a political party in New Zealand, this should be interesting...
Unless you have been living under a rock the last few months, you have probably had a chance to watch Box by Bot & Dolly. I've received a few questions about it so i figured I should post this. The interesting thing about this piece is that at first, most people don't even realize that what they are seeing on screen is being accomplished using projection mapping. If you don't know what projection mapping is you can read about it here. This behind the scenes video is pretty cool, it shows how they were able to use robots, projectors and VFX software to create this masterpiece.
A while back I posted the new Vancouver Canucks opening video that is played right before the players take the ice on game day. Go behind the scenes with Juicy Studios, Kyprios, and Ajay Battacharyya from Data Romance and watch how they made one of the most emotionally powerful and hard hitting videos that I have seen to date.
This is so awesome, I don't even know where to begin... "Great Song + Awesome Interactive Experience = Internet Win" is pretty much the simplest way to sum it up.
Some interesting facts:
- The video player was created using YouTube's API
- When first arriving to the page (or when it's refreshed), the song take note at what time it currently is where you are and tailor the video accordingly
- There are "Pharrell Buttons" that allow the user to skip to the next part of the video loop where he is in the video
SumAll is a great tool that has the potential to be very powerful once it is out of Beta. It's an analytics dashboard that aggregates all of your analytics in one place. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google+, MailChimp, Constant Contact, Tumblr, Blogger, Wordpress, Google Analytics, YouTube, FourSquare, Bitly, PayPal, Bing, AdWords and the list goes on and on...
It's free currently, with plans to eventually roll out a paid premium version - however SumAll has maintained that there will always be a free version available with limited functionality. Check it out!
Was lucky enough to get invited to a Canucks game recently and finally got to see their new opening video. Heavy hitting music from Vancouver local Kyprios and outstanding visuals from Juicy Studios create an incredible experience that resonates with the viewer and is like nothing else in the NHL.
Most people have probably heard about the Paper App that was voted Apple App of the Year in 2012. It is great for sketching quick ideas, making lists and keeping everything in one central place. I have loved working with the app but I always felt something was missing. I bought a Lunatik Touch Pen last year and fell in love with the idea of my iPad replacing my notebook because I have other useful apps on there like Evernote, Dropbox and Google Drive. However, there was no ability to enable palm rejection within the Paper App using the Touch Pen. Finally the day has come where Fifty Three has created a stylus designed to work with Paper.
Twitter has finally released a video explaining what exactly the social media platform does. I love the use of motion graphics in this video, it does a great job of explaining what the platform does while keeping the viewer interested in an artistic way.
You may have seen some stuff via your social media feed a few weeks back regarding this new mobile phone concept from some guys in the Netherlands. Well fast forward a month and now the project has been picked up by Google-backed Motorola. Motorola has been relatively quiet the last couple years since the launch of their Razr phone, but with over 40 years in mobile phone experience, the creators of this project feel that Motorola can help them achieve their goal.
What is an influencer? Are you an influencer? The Influencers documentary is a 14 minute film that examines how trends become contagious in pop culture today and what it means to be an influencer. Without getting scientific about it, the film explores what makes a person influential while taking a look at New York as a city and its influence on pop culture relating to art, design and history.
