You’re a hideous, terrifying monster. One day, you meet an innocent little girl who isn’t afraid of you and treats you like anyone else. Day after day, you play together until you’re eventually separated. Many years later, you meet her again, but this time, she’s terrified of you.
This is literally just being a trans woman.

I am 80% of the way through Mistborn and I am pretty certain Kells is going to die. I hope I am wrong because I do like him a lot
Its so interesting seeing someone somehow being completely correct and completely incorrect at the same time.

This show is a fucking fever dream.
IV has one of the best character establishing duels in Zexal and it really is just a testament to how thoughtful this show has been with its writing. The duel begins of course with him being friendly with his fans, Tetsuo and the Class Rep, talking highly about how much he believes its important his fan service is, praising his opponents and lifting them up for their mediocre duels, and then, we get this:
Every single shot here, every word, every second is DRIPPING with meaning, symbolism and development. First of all, we have his Fan service. Which represents two things, first it is IV's own personal deeply held conviction in the beauty of horrible and ugly things. To borrow from Arc-V it his own twisted form on entertainment duelling, to deliver and strike abject horror into his opponent. The fact he mentions hope here isn't an accident either. To give his opponents Hope and to snatch it away, what does that sound like? Yuma's trump Aspiring Emperor: Hope has come to represent many things in the show; courage, a way of duelling, faith in yourself, your opponent and of course actual, literal hope. This is setting up IV to not just be a mirror and counter to Shark but also to Yuma. When Yuma summons Hope he is sharing his own hopes with his opponents, he is inviting them in, but IV is taking it away, possessing it and turning it into its ontological opposite: Despair. The fact that this is something that IV believes with conviction, makes him the perfect foil to Yuma.
I think we have to give props to Kotori here too. I think Kotori in many ways (despite being a really well written and fleshed out character in her own right) represents Yuma's heart in a lot of moments. Here we see Yuma horrified and Kotori turning away, His heart is turning away from this duel, it isn't something he can handle. Astral is here too and look angry. if Kotori represents yuma's heart, Astral represents Yuma's mind (and thus Yuma himself, embodies the spirit). We in this scene get to really see the Crest and all it signifies in this duel. In this first moment we see it with his arm outstretched. But we also get this beautiful still
The crests represent the twisted and fucked up love Tron has for his children and oh girl! Using your children to exact revenge on the man who tried to kill you is uh, bad actually. Your kids aren't pawns. However, this gives us so much about IV, of course his fanservice is twisted and a malformed perception of love, because its a reflection of how his father treats him, he is a tool in a game of tug-of-war, a victim and he is lashing out. The Crest is a symbol of that, a twisted reminder of what he has become and what he has to do to earn his father's love. What else? Oh yea. Giant Killer
I don't think the image does it justice. But Giant Killers introduction is a mass of writhing limbs held up by a marionette that's pulsating like a ...like a heart. THIS IS IV's HEART. THIS IS HIS HEART. And what does his heart do? It eats his opponents monsters and does damage to them, HIS HEART IS BROKEN. Anyway. This duel fucks. Zexal is just so so well written.
iv is one of the best zexal characters for...a lot of reaosns but part of it is how fast they're able to turn around perception on him. like he. sucks. for most of zexal 1. you meet him as the guy who ruined shark's life, then next time you see him he breaks caswell's arm for no reason outside of sadism in what is admittedly a v fun and iconic duel to rewatch and THEN next time you see him he's helping in the haruto kidnapping and using footage of his torture to goad kaito into misplaying. like. he seems like just a piece of shit!
...which amkes it so much better to see things fall apart for him. like wtching him break down slowly then all at once as his dad transparently tries to throw him away for shark is. oh god that's why he's like that. it...makes perfect sense why he's like that. and his start of darkness was something he didn't want and scarred him forever.
like. i really thought i'd just hate him but they made him pathetic and in doing so, made him deeply lovable. maybe a better way of putting it is that he's like. gentleman facade->sadism(that is also in part put on)->deeply troubled teenager in an unhinged disaster situation but regardless. excellent character. waiter four more servings of fanservice please
Actually it's clear why he's like that from his very first duel and that's what makes him amazing.
every time I think about the protagonists interacting I face this dilemma
Yuma would try and stop Yuya from putting all of the burdens of war on himself and try to keep on the straight and narrow of entertainment dulling. While on the surface they are ideologically aligned, Yuya's trauma absolutely keeps getting in his way. Yuya would do the same thing for Yuma, which would ultimately lead these to towards an inevitable clash of wills.

No, she's got the idea.
Liberals recognise and believe that The State should not interfere on the day to lives of people. Capitalists rely and exploit the fact that The State will not interfere with the lives of people to their own ends. Fascists see what Capitalists are doing and seek to exploit and control The State for their own ends. Socialists and Communists recognize and understand that the only way to prevent Capitalist and Fascists taking over the state and abusing it to their own ends is to themselves, first, take over The State. Anarchists have recognised the actual problem with this. This makes everybody quite upset, especially anarchists.
