"So. Uh. You looking for a job...by any chance?"
"Wow. A job right out of school." Beat. "What's the catch, though."
“Oh, you too? I only have memories up to about 10 years ago, there was no way I'd know all those lyrics by heart.” A surprise moment of solidarity?
"Yeah, I only have memories for the last two and a half years..." Maybe the powers that be needed to stop throwing people through space and time for a minute. There were gonna be more fallers than regular folk at this rate.
In her defense, she doesn't know a single one of these songs.
"If she chooses violence, I choose snapping her f--" The footage cuts there. Weird.
@sylviareviar // hiding an injury
She'd misjudged the distance between her and the ground. A common occurrence in Hisui; where the power emanating from the Arc Phone used to protect her-- But it didn't these days. In no small part because she gave it away nearly three years ago.
The greater Snowpoint area and the Alabaster Icelands still melted together in her head. There was a reason the professor's notes in the crater said people shouldn't come back after they've traveled in time. That their brains wouldn't be able to handle the strain.
Akari hadn't broken yet. Not exactly. But she could feel something trying to snap. In this blizzard, she'd run snow-blind... And for what? To get stuck in this little cranny of the world, huddling close to the campfire she'd made. Whatever state her arm was in right now, she didn't have the mental space to worry about it. It hid under her jacket for now, tucked in a way that made it hurt the least.
What she did have the space for, and hopefully always would, was basic decency. She'd let her off hand beckon the stranger forward; what did it cost her to share her shelter from the storm?
"Hurry in before you freeze, okay?" she called out.
"THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE."
"What if I'm tired of being the hero? What if I wanna go feral?"
"I may not play to win, but I do play to slay."
Bad at lying.
Great at catwalking.
Checks out!
Aaaaah, don't remind her--
//that fight thread on discord basically completed in under 24 hours btw so if I am slow again for a bit that is why
Kotaro "This Pokemon trainer hails from the ancient region of Hisui… she's a replacement fighter so she unfortunately had to enter with a 0-1 record… Hopefully it wont' deter her. Let's welcome…." Trainer Akari!!!!! "Her first oppnent in this tournament will be one of the few non-humanoids to enter this event…." Honey the Cat!!!!! "For this fight, Akari must use her team of three pokemon to take out Honey, so the rules for Pokemon trainers will be used for her. Honey will need to take out all three of her Pokemon to win this fight. Now with that out of the way, let's start!"
Akari Yosuga She gives, first, a deep bow. "Nice to meet you! Don't hold anything back, okay?" Because she sure as hell wasn't going to. A steam-powered ball expanded in her hand, thrown out into the field. "Kimiko! Get ready to fight!"
Kimiko Out in a flash of light, the Hisuian Samurott roared her acknowledgements. Head bowed, the sharp antenna pointed forward as big claws scraped against the tile.
Honey the Cat Honey raised an eyebrow, more than a little surprised by the change in rules. It seemed a little strange, having to fight a team of creatures from another world, instead of the person responsible for training them. Seemed this was going to be a little different from her fight with Ezra.
"Well, alright then, if you're sure about this…" The mobian looked over the first of her three opponents, immediately taking note of that sharp antenna. Attacking it head on would be foolish, so it would probably be best to try attacking from the side. She assumed a fighting stance, waiting for her opponent to make the first move, hoping to catch them off-guard. September 26, 2024
Akari Yosuga "Kimiko! Swords Dance, Agile! Ceaseless Edge, Strong!"
Kimiko First, quick as could be, spectral-looking swords clashed in a ring above the Samurott's head. Second, she rushed forward, dark energy surrounding her body as she charged, the antenna turning into more of a blade as she ran.
Honey the Cat The mobian kept her eye on the Pokémon's movements, watching the Samurott charge at her. She waited as it approached, preparing herself for the attack, before dashing to the side at the last moment, letting her carry on straight past her. Though she was curious if the creature would be able to stop in time to avoid charging straight into the arena wall, in a fight like this it was better not to leave things to chance, so as Kimiko passed her, Honey wound up a strong punch and leapt forward to strike at the creature's side.
Kimiko The Samurott skidded to a stop just shy of the wall, but wasn't fast enough following a strong-style move to get out of the way of the punch. A cry out alerted Akari-- To her team, this might as well have been a Fighting-type move, because that was a super-effective amount of damage. But she wasn't out yet!
Akari Yosuga Akari had less than a second to think, but knew she couldn't risk strong style again. "Aqua Tail! Push her back!"
Kimiko Kimiko's long tail covered in high pressure water, as she turned where she was, ready to slap away the mobian at her side.
Honey the Cat Her eyes still locked on her opponent, Honey leapt back as Kimiko turned, just barely dodging the attack. Although it failed to connect, this still put some distance between them, for now at least. Still, she'd already dealt a decent amount of damage to the opposing Pokémon, she just needed to watch her next move and wait for another opening to attack.
Akari Yosuga "Ceaseless Edge! Agile!" Behind the barrier, Akari kept her eye on Honey-- They needed to continue the assault. Needed to make sure their opponent was on the back foot. They couldn't waste a second here.
Kimiko This charge was far faster than the last, energy forming quicker as dark blades rushed forward with the Pokémon.
Honey the Cat Honey was at a disadvantage for this one; she was fast, but there was much less distance between them this time, and the Pokémon charged faster to boot. While she could try dodging to the side, it was sporting to at least take one or two hits, right?
Ultimately, she ended up just raising her arms to block the attack, letting out a pained groan as it connected, the force pushing her back somewhat. Still undeterred, the mobian was quick to retaliate, sprinting forward to attack with another strong punch, though whether it connected was dependant on whether her opponent would be able to dodge it.
Akari Yosuga "Kimiko! Left--"
Kimiko The samurott pressed further, listening more to Akari's heart than her words; more invested in keeping the blades going without end than in trying to jump out of the way. One last slam and she shrank, recalled by the light, steam hissing from her Pokéball. KIMIKO KO
Akari Yosuga Damn it all… Without hesitation, her second ball expanded. Out came, at first, what looked to be a strange rock with cracks in the top. "Mika! Hypnosis!"
Mika Out popped the 108 souls in swirling miasma. Slow hops dragged the rock to the center of the field. Then her head spun. Around and around and around in circles it spun, asking the opponent's mind ever so gently to sleep.
Honey the Cat Now this caught Honey completely off-guard. As soon as she heard her opponent call out, she should have looked away, and yet despite that, the mobian found herself unable to look away from the strange rock-like Pokémon. Within moments, her eyes began to feel heavy, the cat becoming visibly tired and lethargic as the hypnosis took effect. She didn't quite fall asleep, but she was already left in a vulnerable state, leaving her completely open for an attack.
Akari Yosuga "And follow with an Icy Wind!"
Mika The ghost breathed out a terrible cold breath, freezing the droplets in the air all around the arena. Ghostly eyes squinting. Keystone barely rocking as her many souls swung in an arc.
Honey the Cat Still stuck in her hypnotized state, Honey had no choice but to just stand there and let that icy blow strike her. Fortunately, the impact of those icy particles, combined with the horrible chill in the air, managed to snap her back out of it again.
"H-hey, no f-fair!" Honey visibly shivered for a few moments, the cold making her visibly uncomfortable, before she resumed a fighting stance, and sprinted forward again to retaliate with a good, hard kick. At any rate, she was unlikely to be caught off guard by Hypnosis again, now that she knew what to expect.
Mika The ghost wasn't exactly the fastest dodger in the west, here. Or very much of a dodger at all. That leg swung down on the stone, widening the crack just a little… and another called-out Icy Wind blew from her jagged mouth, point-blank this time.
Honey the Cat At that range, there was pretty much no chance for Honey to dodge. All she could do was just block it to the best of her ability, lessening the impact slightly, but not by much.
"C-crap… N-not sure how many m-more of those I can take…" Still, she noticed the stone crack when she kicked it. If she could build up a little more momentum before her next attack, she might be able to inflict some serious damage. The cat leapt back a few times to put some distance between them, not wanting to risk another point-blank icy wind like that. She was going to have to carefully listen out for Akari's commands, to know if she'd need to look away.
Akari Yosuga Inspiration flashed in those bright green eyes. First step here… "Calm Mind!"
Mika The Spiritomb's eyes closed, the look on her face momentarily pensive… She seemed to be preparing for something…
Honey the Cat The mobian raised an eyebrow, keeping an eye on her opponent. She wasn't sure what this "calm mind" move entailed, but she had a feeling she was building up to something. It was time to start building up momentum; not taking her eyes off of Mika, Honey began to sprint, not immediately towards the Spiritomb, but around the arena, keeping a reasonable distance between them while building up speed for an eventual attack.
Mika Dragging forward was going to be a waste of time, but could the skill reach…? Not only that, but… Akari called out, first, an Agile Shadow Ball, pointed at a space in front of Honey's predicted trajectory. The orb took little time to form, thrust forward like a speeding bullet. Then, a Strong Icy Wind, spread out over time around the Pokémon as a lingering field hazard.
Honey the Cat Internally, the cat began to panic as she saw the shadow ball thrust straight into her path with no time to slow down or dodge, leaving her with no choice but to brace herself as she ran straight through it. She felt a chill run down her spine as the projectile passed through her body. It was a deeply unsettling feeling… but there didn't seem to be any ill effect aside from that.
Looking back to her opponent, noticing the icy wind circling around Mika, Honey knew it was going to be difficult to hit her without taking a hit or two herself… but probably not impossible. Finally turning around, she dashed towards Mika, dodging as many of the icy droplets as she could, and doing her best to ignore the freezing cold air surrounding them as she charged in for another strong kick, this time aided by the momentum she'd built up.
Mika The crack deepened, immensely so. One more action left on that Calm Mind, another point-blank Icy Wind shot out as a hail mary.
Honey the Cat Once again, with no chance to dodge, Honey was forced to block again, shivering and groaning as that icy blast hit her. She was really starting to get tired of that move, but seeing how deep the crack was now, she knew it wouldn't take much more to take the second Pokémon down; she just hoped that doing this wouldn't kill it.
She didn't waste any time, didn't bother putting any distance between them again. As soon as the icy wind subsided, she immediately went for another kick, striking the Spiritomb as hard as she could manage without building up momentum again, crossing her fingers that it would be enough.
Mika Like a firework, the Spiritomb broke free of the keystone, 108 mischievous spirits floating all around the venue… What was already dead could never die, but gathering them all back up was a task for later Akari.
MIKA KO
Akari Yosuga Two out of three, and here she'd overlooked an achilles heel the whole time she'd had the Spiritomb. Huh. Well. "Akiho! Just a little left!"
Akiho The Skuntank stomped onto the field from her flash of light…and a call for Flamethrower got her jaw to open. For scorching flames to pour out, utilizing the sudden temperature shift between cold and heat. (edited)
Honey the Cat Honey watched the spirits scatter, feeling somewhat relieved at the suggestion she hadn't just killed one of her opponents. It made sense, you can't kill something that's already dead. As soon as the Skutank was sent out, and Honey heard the call for Flamethrower, the cat immediately leapt back, the hem of her dress being singed by the flames as she just barely dodged out of the way.
Oh, that was going to be a move she'd have to listen out for. She wouldn't want to end up barbequed. Landing back on her feet again, she resumed her fighting stance, waiting her opponent to make another move, and to present her with a potential opening for an attack of her own. She'd already defeated two Pokémon, and though the fight against Mika had worn her down a bit, she'd come too far to lose now.
Akiho A called Agile Sludge Bomb directed at the spot Honey jumped toward. Then another, pooling poisonous puddles on the tile if they missed. Narrowing the battlefield little by little. They'd both come too far in this fight to lose now. And every single Pokémon on Akari's team was her ace. (edited)
Honey the Cat "Holy crap!" There was no time to stay still, Honey was going to have to keep moving and stay hard to hit if she wanted to stand a chance. She avoided the sludge bombs and began to circle her opponent, keeping an eye on her to know when she'd need to dodge again or change course. She was also going to have to be careful where she stepped, those puddles would not be pleasant to step in.
As she circled Akiho, she moved in for a few quick punches at her side, before moving away again. She didn't put her full strength into these punches, focusing more on trying to gradually wear her down, than take her out quickly. They'd hurt, but nowhere near as much as the ones that had taken out Kimiko.
Akiho Instructions to hold, to bear the flurry, for only as long as it took for the cat to get too comfortable whittling the skunk down-- before a called Iron Tail swung the creature's tail down from atop her head, the long limb hard as steel, swinging in an arc toward both the cat and one of the pools littering the floor.
Honey the Cat The cat began skidding to a halt as quick as she could, but not quickly enough to avoid being hit. The tail hit the mobian like a truck, immediately knocking the wind out of her, and sending her flying straight into one of the poison sludge pools covering the arena floor.
Grimacing, Honey forced herself back up onto her feet, and let out a painful sounding cough as she tried to catch her breath again. She felt dizzy, unwell… and from that, she could figure out that the sludge was poisonous. That wasn't good. At this rate, she was going to have to finish the fight quickly. Once she'd finally caught her breath, she charged forward again, this time actually putting a good amount of strength into her punches… though whether or not they'd actually connect in the state she was in was another question altogether.
Akiho Akiho jumped back, and away from those more sluggish blows, taking refuge in the pools herself while both she and her trainer regrouped for a moment. But only for a moment. Harsh whips of her tail spread some of that toxic mess around behind her… and she jumped forward, the call for Play Rough ringing through the arena. Her limbs whipped around in a terrible frenzy as she closed the distance again, almost as if 'play fighting' and 'play chasing'… But the force behind it would be far greater than play should have accounted for.
Honey the Cat If this attack had been used earlier in the fight, then perhaps Honey might have stood a chance at avoiding it, but between her exhaustion from the previous two fights, having had the wind knocked out of her, and the poisoning taking its toll, she didn't have it in her to dodge it. The deceptively powerful strikes would connect, knocking the wind out of the mobian again, before sending her into another puddle, which would only worsen the poisoning effect.
And yet… Honey just refused to back down. Despite the dizziness, and the growing fatigue, the cat forced herself back up, back onto her feet, staring down her opponent for a few moments, before resuming a fighting stance one more time. Refusing to lay down and admit defeat, the cat dashed forward once again before leaping into the air, putting all her remaining strength into one last diving kick towards Akiho. Regardless of whether this worked or not, the fight would end here.
Akiho And, as much as she tried, Akiho didn't have the time to regain her bearings after that all-out Play Rough. Without her tail situated upward to protect her, that diving kick hit her square on the head, dizzying circles taking her down from a stand to a shrink-- Returned to the ball, just like that.
FULL TEAM KO
Akari Yosuga "…the med team's coming soon, right?" She could heal her Pokémon, but… Oh boy.
Honey the Cat Of course, Honey couldn't savor her victory just yet, the cat now laying exhausted on the ground after that final strike. Too spent to even attempt to get back up, she just lay there until she finally gave into her exhaustion, her eyes closing as she lost consciousness. It had been a close fight, and it took pretty much everything she had to win. She may need some time to recover before her next bout.
Kotaro The host finally decided to step in. As he approached Honey, he reached to his communicator. "I'm going to need a medic to treat Honey. Send Akari and her Pokemon over to that new Pokemon Center to heal up her team as well." He said before putting away the communicator. "The winner of this fight, by KO'ing her opponent's full team of Pokemon, is Honey the Cat! Congratulations on the win."
