It's kind of weird that Mizora and Raphael are both cambions - they're half-human, which doesn't seem to suit their grandiosity. The tutorial fight has like three cambions in it and they're clearly just Guys With Wings. The most powerful one is famous for having the best longsword in the game that is ridiculously easy to steal.
Now I'm convinced the reason they're cambions is because of the Brimstone Angels novels, where the protagonist, Farideh, is the tiefling warlock of a cambion, Lorcan, and it's very compelling.
Lorcan puppets and manipulates and coerces Farideh and is extremely powerful, but also clearly more sensitive and emotionally complex than he feels devils should be; Farideh hates him and desperately longs for escape, resents herself for pacting with him, but also increasingly relies on him and understands him, while being shunned and othered for her race and her magic and turning to dark powers over and over in times of need etc etc.
The author, Erin M. Evans, is a woman *and* has a degree in anthology *and* started the series in 2011, so it's a huge breath of fresh air if you've only read Drizz't or Elminster, I highly recommend it. There's homosexuality! It's depicted right there in 2011!
...Anyway, it's very compelling and thematically appropriate when she does it. The fact that Mizora has a human parent is barely touched upon, and Wyll doesn't indicate that he knows or cares, and their relationship isn't complicated at all and he fully loathes her with no empathy. Maybe she's just had a lot of Devil Therapy and come to terms with it.
Raphael clearly has an inferiority complex linked to being half-human, but in the context of the Brimstone Angels, it's worth noting that another archdevil also has a kid and THAT kid is a Chosen, marked and pursued and watched because their parent is fascinated by them.
Raphael didn't get that from his dad. His dad sent him a sex spy. His whole deal is a lot funnier if you read the novels, and you get a sense of how human Raphael could choose to be if he wanted to (very!). Great cambion and archdevil lore in the emotional department, if you're into that sort of thing.
Also, Lorcan has a bunch of more powerful sisters who hate him and bully him constantly, which is really funny. I'd like Mizora a lot more if sometimes another devil showed up and called her stupid.
