show notes from a few days ago?
Okay, so I was there August 5th, at the evening show!
Full cast, with Josh Ponyboy! And Barton!!! God, I've missed Barton...
I love Strobl so much, and his performance was absolutely killer. I saw the show with my dad (his first time seeing it!!) and he immediately loved Josh so much! He couldn't believe he was an understudy!
Great Expectations was insane, and Josh was right in front of us for a lot of it, and it was so powerful. He just emotes so well!!
During the breakup, when Bob draws the line in the gravel with his foot, I happened to be exactly lined up with it and Nicholas kicked a bunch of it into my face lmao. 10/10 experience.
I was watching Barton a lot because I hadn't seen him in, well, over a year at this point. He was cracking me up, I love his Brill so much. His Brill is definitely drunk basically from FATDI forward, and anytime something dramatic happened he'd just do the surprised Pikachu face.
During JFT, Brill is so easily swayed by Paul, but he does seem to agree with Cherry first. Like, he's listening to her at the beginning, nodding along with her, etc. And then it's not till Paul starts talking that he changes his mind. Which was heartbreaking.
RITFR was wild, Josh and Dan were very much brothers who are getting on each other's nerves. What really got me, was when Josh fully cut off Dan to say the "you act like I've set the dang house on fire" line. I love when that happens, though I'd never seen it before, because it makes the argument flow so naturally. And that interruption from Ponyboy just made Darry even more mad.
Sutton's face pre-Great Expectations while Ponyboy is describing the dream about their parents is so sad 😭 He always starts out so smiley, until he realizes what's being described and his face just falls.
Logan was chewing on the straw of the Coke cup during the bench scene, which I loved. It felt very Marcia to me.
Caleb and SeQuoiia really are one of my favorite Johnny and Dally duos at this point, simply because they feel the most like true friends, which sells Dally's death a lot more because you can feel how close they were before Johnny died.
Dan's voice broke extra at the end during the "we lost mom, and we lost dad" portion.
