Would you ever use a prong/ecollar?
on my pet dogs? extremely unlikely. but i certainly have used those tools before in my line of work and i don't regret it.
you have to remember that my personal background is heavily focused on training service dogs for people with disabilities, many of whom are not able to do the kind of physical problem-solving required for a truly LIMA/R+ approach to dog training
i have dogs out there working with a number of clients who physically cannot grab and hold a dog treat, much less deliver it to a dog in a timely way. i have successfully worked with clients who have no arms or legs.
aversives, used appropriately and effectively, are vital communication tools to many service dog handlers, and i would rather see 10,000 dogs on prongs than 1 disabled person go without the help they need and deserve.
the dignity, independence, and wellbeing of disabled people comes before dogs' feelings. always. and i'm not even a little sorry for feeling that way.
i made a carrd all about service dogs! ive been working on this for a few days now, so please check it out!
Questions and answers about service dogs (USA)!
adulthood is like dog training but you are both the dog and the trainer and also it doesn’t work and is bad
not being productive or relaxing but a secret third thing
