every single day the news is like "breaking: the president has decreed that 100 to 200 angry hornets will be crammed into the mouth of each and every non-billionaire in the continental US on a random night this week while they sleep!" and every single time i'm like "...is this a power traditionally held by the executive branch of the US government?" and sometimes the answer is "unfortunately yes" and sometimes the answer is "no but it's happening anyway lol" and then i'm like "well i guess i hope the other branches impose checks and balances on his decision" and then the republican-majority supreme court is like "we're fine with this" and the republican-majority congress is like "what if the hornets were angrier actually" and then some glossy new startup is like "we built a tool to help predict which night is your night to have the hornets jammed in there, it's called buzzz :)" but the it turns out the tool is powered by ai so it's completely worthless and anyway what i'm saying is no, i haven't really been keeping up on my laundry lately.

Orlando Resident here. The chalk was later replaced by paint by more proud citizens, but the state came through AGAIN last night and painted over it AGAIN, and everyone has re-chalked it rainbow again as of 5 hours ago. A bucket of chalk now sits by the crosswalk. Orlando will not lose this fight. We are not letting this go.

Hey everyone, I know it's going to be a busy day for a lot of people, but Google enrolled everyone over 18 into their AI program automatically.

If you have a google account, first go to gemini.google.com/extensions and turn everything off.

Then you need to go to myactivity.google.com/product/gemini and turn off all Gemini activity tracking. You do have to do them in that order to make sure it works.

Honestly, I'm not sure how long this will last, but this should keep Gemini off your projects for a bit.

I saw this over on bluesky and figured it would be good to spread on here. It only takes a few minutes to do.

If the gemini.google.com/extensions page takes you to gemini.google.com/app, (“app” without the “s”) you can navigate there with the following steps:

Click the hamburger menu at the top left:

Click “Settings & help” in the left sidebar:

Click “Apps”:

Once you're there, you might need to scroll down to find the toggles.

Bonus step: disable Smart Features

There are "Smart Features" for most Google products, which accesses your data and uses AI to "improve" your experience. You can turn it off on any Google product, but I'll just share the steps for Gmail.

On your Gmail homepage, click the Settings icon in the top right, then "See all settings":

Search (Ctrl+F for Windows, Cmd+F for Mac) for the word "workspace". Under "Google Workspace smart features", click the "Manage Workspace smart feature settings" button:

Turn off both toggles, then press Save. It should now be turned off for all services across your Google account.
