hi I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but do you need an msw to be a therapist? im really interested in becoming one as well but I only have a bachelors in sociology rn

Not a stupid question! You don’t need an MSW to become a therapist. A lot of people who are interested in becoming therapists get their masters in counseling. I chose social work because it’s such a diverse field in terms of what you can do. I can be a therapist, case manager, child welfare, be in advocacy, policy, etc. With a counseling degree it’s more limited. It would take about 2 years to get an MSW if you don’t have a BSW. It took be 1.5 years because I also had a BA not a BSW and I took the max amount of classes to graduate a semester earlier. Happy to answer more Q’s related to grad school, social work etc 😊
