okay so just wanted to ask how to be ready for a relationship. Like a real, healthy relationship. I thought I was prepared but when the opportunity came, I just couldn't do it. I used to think I was ready but still I would attract those very consuming and harmful situationships. But now I realize I myself wasn't ready for a proper relationship. So how can I prepare myself for one?

You heal.

You take an intentional detox period from males and go in total celibacy for at least 5 months. No talking, no flirting and no entertaining males for any purpose. You're not going to use the time to just lounge around though; you're going to want to complete 4 steps.

Trauma work. You're going to deep dive into what's happened to you and how that affects your relationships as an adult. Get the books and get the journal going. What you face can be erased.

Confidence work. You need to find yourself because after all you've accepted into your reality you're a shell of the woman you could be. Level up, refine your style and social act and get comfortable with your self-validation being your main fuel.

Be fearlessly & intentionally alone. Stop accepting "good enough"-people in your life. Stop accepting friends or family that don't align with your values or dreams. Absolutely drop people that don't respect you deep or hype you up. Set boundaries; only love should get access to you.

Learn to vet a man. Finally, to find diamonds from a sea of rocks you have to be very clear and skilled. Your standards have to be as solid as your goal. Learn to drop males from the first sign showing they're not what you're after.

In my opinion, every woman should go through this process for their clarity if they're after a commited relationship.

How Shala Monroque successfully climbed the New York social ladder

Before social media ushered in a new age of It girls, influencers who had mastered the art of the candid pose as well as the algorithm, the title was reserved for a select few like Shala Monroque—fashionable women-about-town whose social calendars, style choices, and romantic relationships became fodder for gossip columns and society pages.

Shala Monroque, who moved to New York from Saint Lucia in 2000, shortly after graduating high school, never set out to work in fashion. But she found herself immersed in it through connections forged hostessing at sceney Manhattan restaurants.

Circulating in these spaces, Monroque became friends with Russian-born socialite and art-world fixture Dasha Zhukova. In 2009, Zhukova was named editor in chief of the culty fashion glossy Pop and asked Monroque to join her team. “She [hired] a bunch of her friends,” Monroque says. “None of us had worked in fashion; it was not our thing. But I guess she admired my sense of style and my point of view.” Monroque’s career took off. Shortly after meeting Miuccia Prada, the two grew close and Monroque became a Prada muse and unofficial brand ambassador, attending shows and hosting parties for the house around the globe. When Zhukova launched Garage magazine in 2011, she named Monroque creative director.

Shala served as La Mer’s first World Ocean’s Day Brand Ambassador in 2013. She also has contributed to the US editions of Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, served as Co-Chair for the New York Public Library Gala Event for three years. She has graced the covers of Town & Country and New York Magazine, while being a regular on the Best Dressed Lists of Vogue and Vanity Fair’s International Best Dressed List.

Conclusion: Everything you want out of life is on the other side of fear and outside of your comfort zone. You will accomplish nothing if you allow limited beliefs to control your life and how you choose to show up. I am by no means saying anything will come easy but this much is true, life rewards the brave.

Also, do not walk close to walls. It will be easier for someone so walk past you and push you against it or corner you.

If your gut is telling you to cross the street or change your path, do it. Don’t risk it. Your body knows.

If you can, buy a large umbrella and walk holding it. Studies say that predators are less likely to attempt an attack on someone that could fight back. Keys around your knuckles is fine but you’ll need to get very close to do damage. Umbrellas are more precise.

Avoid wearing headphones if you are alone on an empty street. Look aware.

Again: Stay. Away. From. Walls.

Entering an uber alone? Call your father (or anyone you trust) and say “hey dad! Yep, I’m almost there, I’m sending you the route.” outloud. Then proceed to send them the route so they can follow the uber drive. This will most likely intimidate the predator.

If you see someone in an uncomfortable or possibly dangerous situation, walk up to them and say “Betty, oh my god, I haven’t seen you in so long!”. If she gets slightly confused, you can whisper and let her know you’re trying to help and that she should follow along. Walk together to another station or away from where you are. The man will most likely not follow. I have done this one 2 times and can be very helpful.

If you are unsure she needs help, you can pass her a note saying something like “hey, I noticed this man beside you is making you uncomfortable. If you’d like help, fake a sneeze right now and I will come up to you and pretend we are friends.” This is a long note, but its an example. Be discrete. If she follows along, proceed with the previous tip. This is helpful when you’re in a crowded train and you notice harassment.

Help your sisters. Trust them. Trust yourself. Be safe.

Ahhh I LOVE this song so so much! It was playing 24/7 when I was in Egypt this summer. It's such a cute song, the title translates to "Infront of her mirror" and the song is admiring "her" beauty of. Sadly this song doesn't have any subtitles but definitely search around for a translation because the lyrics are pretty good. A nice song to dance to.

This song was also super popular in Egypt this summer. The lyrics of this song are amazing, and there are subtitles! I love the music video, mostly bc I think it was filmed in El Sahel El Shamally (North coast of Egypt), as are most songs on this list now that I think about it.

I love Haifa Wehbe, also, love her outfit in this videos. Fun fact, I am pretty sure she got seriously injured while filming the last scene of this music video (where the plane flies above her). Def have to make a full post on this song.

This song is also sung in a Lebanese dialect, although a part of me wants to say it's a mix between Egyptian and Lebanese but maybe that has more to do with the similarities of the dialects. The title translates to "I'm the one who loves you".

Amr Diab - Zay Manty

This was also filmed in the North coast of Egypt, the color of the water gives it away; th3 Mediterranean sea is SO blue. A very very nice love song.

I have to start of by saying, the visuals are INSANE, the music video is a must-watch. Elyanna is a fairly new singer. She's half Palestinian, half Chilean but she was born in Los Angeles. This song is a cover of Samira Said's "Youm Wara Youm" by Elyanna

The title of this song translates to "My eyes are on you". This song is super catchy and very fun to dance to.

In many cultures, ethnic groups, and nations around the world, hair is considered a source of power and prestige. African people brought these traditions and beliefs to the Americas and passed them down through the generations.

In my mother’s family (Black Americans from rural South Carolina) the women don’t cut their hair off unless absolutely necessary (i.e damage or routine trimming). Long hair is considered a symbol of beauty and power; my mother often told me that our hair holds our strength and power. Though my mother’s family has been American born for several generations, it is fascinating to see the beliefs and traditions of our African ancestors passed down. We are emotionally and spiritually attached to our hair, cutting it only with the knowledge that we are starting completely clean and removing stagnant energy.

Couple this with the forced removal and covering of our hair from the times of slavery and onward, and you can see why so many Black women and men alike take such pride and care in their natural hair and love to adorn our heads with wigs, weaves, braids, twists, accessories, and sharp designs.

Hair is not just hair in African diaspora cultures, and this is why the appropriation and stigma surrounding our hair is so harmful.
