I'm not good at writing these things on a consistent basis. To be fair, I haven't had much time to, and when I do have the time, I just don't want to.
Well, I'm having a tire replaced on my car so I have a a couple hours to kill. I decided to get some lunch. I have a gluten intolerance, so that made the burdensome task of walking even worse. The nearest restaurant with a decent gluten free option is a half a mile from the tire place. I know a half mile isn't that far, but it's cold and windy and it's been a bad morning already (I decided to eat a flour tortilla last night. I thought "surely one flour tortilla won't aggravate my gluten intolerance". I was wrong.). Aslo, I need to work. And the tire repair is eating into my time. And money.
Sorry to complain. But I don't have anywhere else to do that right now and it feels good to write it out.
So, I have some free time. I guess I'll tell you (myself) about the games we played last Monday.
We started out with a quick round of Roll For It. It's fast, simple, and fun. It's really just an excuse to chuck around some dice. (Sorry. No pics)
Then we played Sentinels of the Multiverse. It's a cooperative super hero game. Each player picks from a variety of heroes and they all work together to take down the bad guy. This week, it was a giant terraforming robot trying to make the planet livable for its alien race or something like that.
It's big. It's bad. It's got a tough outer shell that we had to crack into.
It's up at the top of the photo. You can't see that. I did a bad job photographing things.
My hero was Setback. He's a super unlucky dude. But when he gets lucky, he does some massive damage. He was a lot of fun to play with.
We did a pretty great job fighting the robot. And the army of ninjas coming from the nearby monastery. I had a particularly hard time with one ninja that just wouldn't die. It had an ability that kept it coming back to life by implanting itself on the top of a player's deck. It sucked. And lead to a moment when I set myself on fire by accident and dealt one extra damage more than I wanted to and "killed" it for, probably, the third time, sending it to my deck. Again! I tried everything I could to keep it from happening, but it was too late. I sighed and said, "give me the damn ninja".
This game is always fun. It's a little chaotic and fiddly, but that's OK. I love the artwork in this game. It's got this old comic book style that obviously took a lot of love and care.
That was all we played on Monday. We all had to leave early, so we couldn't get any other games in.
Last week sometime, R. and I played a new game I got. New York Zoo.
You have to race to fill up your zoo with cute little wooden animals and tetris like tiles. It was fun, but explaining the rules about placing animals was a challenge. But there's definitely something special here.
I managed to win, but it was close.
I guess that's all the gaming and life stuff happening for me. Hopefully the week will get better. In the near future I plan on starting a journal based ttrpg called Anamnesis. Maybe I'll share some of my stuff from that, but maybe not. I'm hoping it will get some creative juices flowing.
