broadswordandpistolā:
āA drinking buddy.ā Alvin plopped himself down unceremoniously next to Rain. There was only one glass in sight. He did Rain the courtesy of not drinking from the bottle.
āItās been a long time since someone went down on my watch, and I figure youāre not taking it any better than I am.ā Someone was hardly a descriptor. The fallen knight had been more than a mere someone. A friend, a trusted ally, a perennial warm welcome in a cold land.
He eyed Rainās collapsed form with a worn but keen eye. āSeems I was right.ā
āWeāre not heroes.ā He grumbled under his breath, only taking another sip of wine, and was unlikely going to finish the bottle since he was still cautious about his health even when at his lowest.Ā
āThe world sees us as the oh so glorious warriors of light sure, and while Iāll quietly smile and play the role I think you and I both know thereās no such thing as heroes, otherwise we would be able to save whomever we cared about.ā
His nightmares were sure to take a turn for the worst from here on out, not that it was anything new, but he knew it was best to be well rested for the path that was ahead.
āFunny, cause Iāve never even considered the path for vengeance until now. I still know it wonāt do anything, may not even make me feel better at all. Granted Iām sure you and a few others would stop me from doing something incredibly stupid if I tried.ā
