I have heard of black people warning their kids that the race of a police officer is cop and you should not expect solidarity from them. The same applies to other types of minorities.

When you become the enforcer and protector of capital, you are making the deal to be slightly favored by the system over others like you, in exchange for being its servant. Your solidarity is with the system that you serve, even if it hates you.

I wish I could tell my younger self how much better things are. Sure the world is dark and scary, and there are still battles to fight. Yeah our body is very different, and our future is nothing at all like we imagined.

But it is so much better.

I'm thankful every day for how brave younger me was, and how much garbage they persevered through that they shouldn't have had to, alone and unmedicated or untreated. That wasn't a small feat, and you need to be kinder to yourself for that.

But now we live in a home where people don't yell. We have houseplants and a garden that they never let us have. We can have fruit and not be scared if it's the last time we'll have it, or made to feel guilty for both eating it and not eating it. We aren't forced to cook, or clean, or be isolated; we cook for joy, we clean when we can, and we have pets and people in our lives that really show up. We are allowed to be slow, and be youthful. Allowed to rest. Allowed to ask for help, or take up space without feeling like we had to earn it. And best of all: we are cared for by someone who means "I love you unconditionally" when they say it.

We can actually relax. Breathe. Exist freely in the home. It smells like lavender and oceans, and is never too quiet. The rug is worn down from living, not hiding. The sink is a little messy sometimes, but no one cares.

And hey, we don't talk to her anymore. Or him.

Because you're worth standing up for.

Happy anniversary to me and the day I chose to live. Because we really have something special now, don't we?

Not sure why it's a new trend among fic readers to assume if the fic has not been posted within the week it's inappropriate to comment on it, like the fic has to be hot out of the oven to give feedback for.

I got a comment on a fic that is less than a year old and it was mostly an apology for being a comment on an "old fic" and how late they were in commenting.

Just comment on the fic. Doesn't matter how old it is.

The idea that everyone who doesn't know something is just choosing to be ignorant is still one of my least favorite liberal takes. Sure, we can all toss around countless stories of people being willfully ignorant after having repeated access to new information, they deserve to be shamed.

But some of y'all do know that some people still don't have internet, right? That their closest store is over twenty-five minutes away by car, right? That it would cost them MONEY to have people come out and literally lay internet lines in the ground because they literally don't go to their houses yet in the year of 2026, right?

Sometimes people are just fuckin ignorant. And idk about y'all, but I'd rather deeply sigh and explain to annoying people how what they are doing is harmful, while earning new allies along the way, than spit in their faces and call them stupid as my first instinct. This literally does the opposite of help.

Idk. Maybe I just have more patience to actually extend a hand and be a community member to people even if I don't like them. (Even if it means having to navigate stressful and uncomfortable conversations). Maybe I have a weak spot from growing up in a cult and have first hand seen how the restriction and lack of access to information can literally mean you don't know anything. Maybe I understand what it's like to live somewhere where my neighbors had never heard of things like factory farming, Wi-fi, or high-speed trains - they sent children to play in coal mines because there was nowhere else for them to go! Maybe I actually don't want perfect allies, and don't subscribe to the idea of moral purity and perfection.

But idk, call me radical for thinking that maybe pointing and laughing at that poor, rural, woman who has never had internet access, didn't have a good education, can't afford food, and can't go to the doctor deserves to suffer because she still doesn't understand how corporate subsidies work or the complexities of capitalism yet. Call me wild for thinking that people are capable of change when introduced to community and access to new information.

You can't harp on how widespread brainwashing propaganda is but mock those who fell for it and never offer a leg out. You can't talk smack on a falling literacy rate if you aren't willing to then make your arguments and points easily digestible to those with less education than you. You cannot whine about how 'no one wants to be a villager anymore' when you are so quick to let someone die because they don't think the same way as you do and you can't be bothered to try and change it.
