I keep seeing the argument that "you only hate it because its AI. If you didn't know you'd still like it." And that's probably true. When it comes to Generative AI content (art, music, etc) I've been following what I call the "Shit Cake" rule.

It doesn't matter how beautiful the chocolate cake is. Once I find out it's made of shit, it's disgusting.

I was listening to a cover of a song i love the other day and I liked it a lot but noticed some weird vocal shifts. Then I looked at the cover art and noticed it was AI generated. The artists page says the music is "AI assisted" I no longer listen to that version of the song and have since blocked them so I don't accidentally get it in my feed anymore.

I thought the cake was beautiful. But then I found it it was made of shit. The cake is no longer beautiful. That someone thinks I should be fine with eating a shit cake because I don't know the shit is there is what's confounding to me.
