History - Cloverfield is the very first kaiju film to be shot it the style famously made patent by The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield brings viewers a new perspective in the midst of a monster invasion. Blending perfectly executed CGI scenes of destruction and chaos with a realistic military response that brings a chill down some of the strongest movie-goers spines.
Plot - During a party to celebrate the leaving of a dear friend, video taper Hud finds himself tasks with filming goodbyes. Rob, the man of celebration finds himself staying in his home town of New York a bit longer then anticipated when a garbage pier boat explodes off the bay. Its only after leaving the apartment that the terror is beyond an isolated explosion. A giant monster is terrorizing the city while release hungry and rampant parasites that feed on any moving thing. Determined to rescue his girlfriend, Rob finds himself with his closest friends running through a war torn city losing more and more hope at every turn.
Personal Rating - 7 OUT OF 10 = The stereotype of not enough monster in a monster movie is almost the definition of this film. However, the new perspective in a world full of monsters brings us something almost never before seen. With flawless CGI and intense and swift moments of fear and terror. Bringing dangerous moments and moments of intense of hopelessness, Cloverfield is a unique film that fills a different role in the Kaiju genre.
