This is a Goemon Ishikawa appreciation zine, themed around his birthday. While the zine celebrates his birthday, submissions don’t have to be birthday-focused—anything highlighting Goemon’s samurai antics, personality, or story is welcome. Nothing more, nothing less!

Ok, mother of GOD that's a lot of responses and I am but one man with Excel. I'll update these ASAP but also some rules:

A Pokemon only counts for itself, not its evolution line.

A Pokemon with multiple forms (like Zygarde) will only be counted for the specified form. A Pokemon with multiple appearances (like Spinda, Vivillon, Sylvally, etc.) count for all their appearances.

I'm literally doing this as a testament to my own depression that not everyone is lovable, so add that to the weight of this post's meaning.

Doug Naylor's Tribute To Rob Grant

I’m deeply saddened to hear of Rob Grant’s passing yesterday. It’s hard to take in the loss of someone who was such a significant part of my life for so many years. I first met Rob when we were nine years old. We went to Chetham's School of Music and later Liverpool University. We grew up making each other laugh long before there was an audience, and eventually found ourselves building something that neither of us could have imagined when we were schoolboys.

Spitting Image and later Red Dwarf went on to become two of the most loved comedy series in Britain. I'll always treasure those years of writing together and laughing so hard it hurt.

Creative partnerships are intense, driven by passion, conviction and strong personalities. But at the heart of ours was a shared love of comedy and a desire to make people laugh and we did, on a scale neither of us could have predicted.

My thoughts are with Rob's wife Kath, and all his family and friends. I will always be grateful for my time working with Rob and what we created together. RIP Smeghead! X #reddwarf

tips for anyone seeing the new Lupin III movie this weekend

️watch the preceding four Takeshi Koike Lupin the IIIRD films beforehand: these are Jigen's Gravestone, Goemon's Blood Spray, Fujiko's Lie and Zenigata and the Two Lupins. they're under an hour each, so you can probably get through them all in an afternoon or two (if you haven't seen them before, keep in mind they're way more "adult" than most other Lupin media)

do not expect anything even remotely like The Castle of Cagliostro or Lupin III: The First (The Immortal Bloodline is pretty much the anti-Castle of Cagliostro in terms of tone)

expect a slightly rough and uneven, but sincere and passionately crafted 2D animated film for adults which takes a lot of storytelling risks. manage your expectations depending on how you felt about the first four films in the series and prepare to have mixed feelings as the credits roll, but to come to appreciate the movie more as it sinks in over the next few hours/days

it has a mid-credits scene so make sure you stay for that

(re)watch The Mystery of Mamo when you get home - that movie and this one complement each other in ways that will become apparent

TAG YOUR SPOILERS! a US/Canada/UK release is not the same as a worldwide release (and even then not everyone in those countries can get to a screening), so a good chunk of the Lupin fandom will still have to wait for the Japanese Bluray to see the movie

and most importantly... HAVE FUN!!!
