PRE-ORDER ANNOUNCEMENT!
DAD STEVE: The Zine will be available for pre-orders SO SOON! March 12th soon, to be exact!
DAD STEVE: The Zine will be a 24 page, full color 6.625″ x 10.25″ zine starring our favorite babysitter in Hawkins, Indiana. So many wonderful artists contributed their skills and hard work to help us bring this zine to life.
DAD STEVE will be available both in digital and physical copies. Digital copies will cost $10 and physical copies will cost $20 + shipping. We will be shipping internationally, but please note that international shipping will cost more as it is expensive to ship from the US (but we will make it as affordable as possible!)
If you purchase a physical copy, you will also receive a digital copy. Digital copies will be sent to your email the day we ship out the physical copies.
Receipts will be publicly posted for everything: ordering the zines, shipping materials, and shipping itself. This zine is not for-profit, costs are intended to cover proofs, printing, packaging, shipping, storefront fees, and copies for the artists who contributed their work. Any funds leftover WILL be donated to charity, which we will be making a separate post about.
On Monday, March 12th, we will post a link to a storefront, along with the links for all our contributing artists. Pre-orders will be open for a month, closing April 12th. We will place our order the following Monday, April 16th. We estimate zines will ship out early May, but we’ll make a follow up announcement once we actually have them in our hands.

Quick drawing based on Janelle Monáe’s music video for Make me Feel. I have to say I love Janelle Monáe as a person. She is such a great role model to POC and queer people, and is probably one of the few celebs that I genially ‘admire’. Everything she does, from her music, to her fashion, has such a powerful statement which she presents so unaploagetically and proudly. I hope to see more and more kids wanting to grow up to be just like her.
Also just wanted to add that she served some LOOKS in her music videos, henny.

Next up is ‘Boys’ by Chali XCX. You can check out the song here. I’m props gonna bust out the gay slang here, cos thats super fitting for this song.
I never paid much attention to what Charli was doing until she released the Vroom Vroom EP in 2016, where she collaborated with some notable PC music artists. Their artificial experimental sound gells really well with her ‘that-bitch’ sounding vocals, the song ‘Vroom Vroom’ especially had me gagging. Her Number 1 Angel album had some bops on it too (3AM, Roll With Me, ILY2 & Lipgloss) with the instrumental for lipgloss going tf awf, which is just a slowed down remix of ‘Lightning Lipgloss Life’ by Life Sim, I think??
Also while I was painting this she released Pop 2, which has my queen Carlegend Slay Jepsen so I’m down.
Anyways, so my favourite track of hers is definitely ‘Boys’, what a chill bop. And she’s right, cos I just be thinking. bout. boys. Like all the time. How relatable! Overall it’s just a really well-rounded pop song, perfectly constructed.
Don’t even get me started on the music vid... got dam, thank you Charli.

Second up is ‘Don’t Take The Money’ by Jack Antonoff AKA Bleachers, which you can check out here.
I got into his music this year, in particular ‘I Wanna Get Better’ which is like this tragic yet anthemic track which I scream at the top of my lungs in the car, because I guess it’s kinda like those ‘fake it till you make it’ sentiments where if I just yell I wanna get better over and over again, maybe I’ll start to feel better, ya know?
But the song we’re actually talking about here carries along similar themes, about relationships and the hardships they face, but in this song realising you both can’t live without each other:
“You steal the air out of my lungs, you make me feel it I pray for everything we lost, buy back the secrets Your hand forever's all I want Don't take the money”
It’s just a great well-rounded tune, and I’m a big fan when theres a busy, complex instrumental, like here all the cowbells and synth and sampling behind the beat and melody create a song as rich and decorated as that embellished uniform and sash he wears.
The music vid is also really fun. The high saturation, bloom effect and home-movie camera work is super nostalgic and vintage and reflective of his sound. Any of his songs could probably fit perfectly in a teen coming-of-age film in the 80′s (And seeing as the 80′s is very on trend right now, means it’d fit super well now).
Also huge props to this guy as a producer, working with the likes of Fun., Charli XCX, Brooke Candy, St. Vincent, Sia, Taylor Swift, LORDE, and I basically owe him my life for giving CARLY RAE JEPSEN a chance at the start of her post-Idol career. So thank you for Carly.

So here in Aus it’s time to vote for Triple J’s hottest 100 (top songs of the year countdown). Thought it’d be fun to do portraits based off the 10 songs I voted for, and talk about why I like it. I’m going in alphabetical order, so starting off with ‘Stardust’ by Ásgeir, which you can listen to here.
Ásgeir is definitely one of favourite artists, his song ‘King and Cross’ one of my top 10 songs of all time. His acoustic and light synth sound is super refreshing and relaxing, and I used to listen to his first album on repeat literally all day when I was studying for exams and it really helped me de-stress.
To be honest I chose ‘Stardust’ as to me it is similar to ‘King and Cross’ structurally and sound-wise so of course I liked it. My second choice would have been ‘I Know You Know’ because I love the instrumental on that one and all the little sounds that enrich the song.
Also should definitely give props to his angelic voice. You’ll have to forgive me because while I possess the vocabulary to enunciate what I like about visual art, I don’t really know how to describe music, so I’ll just say the tone is really nice, check out ‘In the Silence’ for a good example of his range. He is also just as good live.
Speaking of, I have seen him perform live on two occasions, the latter of which I went to his concert by myself. Thats probably another reason I like this song. Seeing him perform it live is one thing, but being by myself felt kinda different. I like spending time alone, and so being at a concert by myself let me appreciate the music, and not distracted by the friends I’d have around me.
Also I woulda done a portrait more reflective of the album, but I did a painting of him 2 years ago, and wanted to redo it. Theres a speed paint of that drawing here.

I often think about Carly Rae Jepsen, the Prime Minister of Canada, and inventor of music. When I first heard the signature click of the Switch, it immediately reminded me of 'Store' from Emotion Side B and I KNEW she had to have had a part in the creation of the console.

I’ve done a drawing of Shea already, but here’s one that actually looks like her lol. I’m super happy Shea made it all the way to the finals. Obviously if Ru hadn’t changed it up this finale, she would have won, and deservedly so because she won the most challenges. HOWEVER, Sasha in that lip-sync... yooo. She was giving me concepts, special effect, drama, riggerry, gaggerini and all that shit so I think she definitely deserved the win for the lip-syncs. I’m glad Shea seemed so graceful about the loss, and the crowd chanting her name while she had to sashay away, iconic.
