"Grace Rocky save stars"
This is based on the idea that for both Dwarves and Elves, braiding has a special meaning, and it is something shared between those who love and trust each other.
I imagine they got married soon after the war. Later, Legolas moved to Ithilien and Gimli to Aglarond, but they found ways to get together. This is when they got a chance to reunite and braided each other’s hair.
Kindred.
Durin Blue
"Easy for you to say when you're not the one being murdered! You're murdering me!” Tears rolled down my cheeks. “I don't want to die!”
"I just want to live. Is that so wrong? Why doesn't anybody else want that?"
grace having the vocal capacity of an asthmatic toad (which rocky knows bc grace once tried to sing a note and rocky almost shattered his xenonite ball to get him to shut up) and simon having an astounding singing voice (he sings something that grace identifies as an old korean folk song when he thinks no one is paying attention to him) that wins him a lot of points with his very musical new alien friend
simon humming nursery rhymes and rocky trilling along in harmony as he makes up lyrics in eridian that grace translates to himself as some variation of "sweet little simon / far away from mars / but he will be home soon / saved by the stars"
(grace cries like a baby but can't tell a very concerned and confused simon why, bc rocky made him swear on adrian to not tattle)
I think it'd be really funny if Simon crashed onto Erid, and only saw Eridians first. "Aliens from an alternate dimension" feels more... digestible, in a way? He knows humans aren't necessarily trustworthy — but rocks are familiar. Rocks have less motive to hurt him.
Until he asks "Wait why are you able to translate my language so well" and the Eridian scientists have to admit they were trying to do a slow introduction of Simon to Grace. Like a conservation program at a zoo. Maybe this is a silly idea but I think it'd be fun for Simon to trust the Eridians more than the other human. At least rocks don't lie?
Imagine with me now:
Ryland Grace: ok, if your alterations to the radio work, we should be in range of Erid soon so you can contact them
Rocky: of course fixes work! Rocky very smart, and very excited to talk to Adrian again!
Grace: I'll let you guys have a moment and to explain the situation while I check on the Talmoeba.
*connecting ping*
Rocky: ♫ Hello! this is Rocky! Eridians there question? ♫
Adrian: ♫ Mate Rocky returned home! home home home!!! so worried and now home! Oh Adrian have BIG surprise for mate when Rocky land. Why Rocky not land question? what ship is Rocky transmitting from question? signal not recognised as Eridian ship. ♫
Rocky: ♫ Rocky also have BIG surprise for mate! it is why Rocky is calling from a different ship. Rocky found way to save star! But Rocky had help saving stars. Rocky met an alien! First alien! Amaze Amaze Amaze! He calls himself Grace, he is a Human from the Sol system. ♫
Adrian: ...
Rocky: ♫ Friend Grace gave up going home to save Rocky. to save Erid. But human biology weird. Gross. will not survive on Erid unless home is made. It is why Rocky call first and not land. It will take time to build, Rocky and Friend Grace know, but Grace is savior of Erid! And first alien contact! Amaze! ♫
Adrian: ... ♫ sooooo about that first alien contact thing. ♫
Rocky: ...
Adrian: ...
Rocky: ♫ Mate also found human question? ♫
Adrian: ♫ Adrian also find human, yes statement. About 6 years ago now. ♫
Rocky: ♫ hmmmm FINE! Mate Adrian can have first contact title. Rocky still gets Star Savior title anyways. ♫
Adrian: ♫of course love. now, Adrian will send Rocky and Friend Grace coordinates where to land for Human Habitat and Adrian will introduce Friend Simon. ♫
Mini comic based on a scene from bloodymary fic "where nothing bleeds" by intrstellarisms, really enjoyed it and wanted to draw one of my favorite scenes from it (link for the fic).
(i'll be honest, i also wanted to draw extra panel of Rocky putting his claw on the tombstone... maybe i should've included that...)
After years of meaning to read it but never seeming to have the time, I finally started reading "How To Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. I've been told by countless people that this book is the ultimate handbook on how to talk to and deal with people.
I'm not far in, but so far it's been pretty interesting and insightful. This book is almost 100 years old but so far everything I've read seems to still hold up today.
I've had a few people message me asking about more resources on how to improve their social skills. There's always r/etiquette (I don't even have a reddit but I find myself lurking) but, if you're looking to read something to help brush up on your social skills, I can so far recommend "How To Wind Friends and Influence People"
Although, take my recommendation with a grain of salt because I haven't finished it yet. But I tried looking up if there was any criticism for it and had a hard time finding any. It is slightly more focused on social skills for a business setting, but honestly those skills can transfer to just about any social setting. (such as presenting your views and opinions to people in a way that doesn't make people feel attacked, and generally making people feel comfortable and at ease around you)
If there was one book I would suggest to everyone on here, Twitter (or X or whatever) and everywhere else on the internet where people lash out at strangers for no reason, it would be this book.
Because one concept it keeps returning to is that people do not like people who lash out at them, people who criticize them, people who scold them. People also do not listen to people who lash out at them, criticize them, and scold them. If you want people to like you, and people to actually listen to you, you should start by not doing that.
@2ndgengeek thank you, gonna go ahead and add this to my to-read list :) also as an FYI for any of my followers looking for more sources on manners / etiquette / social skills
@connanro also adding this to my reading list (and reccs for books on manners to my followers), thank you!
It's been ages since I read it and it is older, but What Does Everybody Else Know That I Don't? by Michele Novotni is specifically aimed at people with ADHD. Some of it is hella basic, but in all honesty it's shit I didn't know until I was an adult.
When I was 8 or 9, I came home from school in tears because I was getting picked on. Dad, being the absolute madman that he is, took me to the library and checked out How to Win Friends and Influence People. (I was a precocious reader.) Was it a weird parenting choice? Yes. Was it helpful? Also yes.
I also recommend books by Miss Manners, because Judith Martin is a delight.

I love this little interaction between the two of them. It’s so quick but honestly tells a lot.
At first he looks at her like, “Ugh, do I really like this girl?”
Then she looks at him with that dorky excitement and he comes back to the realization that he does and it’s BAD
we all know adult humans dont get enough enrichment but the other day i was walkin home past an empty playground and impulsively ran over to spin myself on this zipline merry-go-round contraption for a few minutes and it really did feel like it unlocked some neglected part of my brain. like damn we really should all go outside and play more. fuck. they werent kidding with this play time thing. have you guys heard about play time. it could be huge.
The Pittlings discover that Mel can just hand Frank stuff when he's distracted and he doesn't question it whatsoever. He'll be talking to Dana and Mel can just hand him one pen after another until Dana's whole cup of pens is empty and he's gesticulating with a fistful of them, undeterred. They only do it once or twice at work, so as not to make him vigilant, because sooner or later he'll need to go back to work and realise he's holding a bunch of shit.
But at the Christmas party, when there's no emergency to jump onto, and he's just sat at a table, talking to Abbot (who is so delighted by this game, he keeps him distracted), he's suddenly holding his jacket, Mel's jacket, Victoria's handbag and has all the forks of the table in his hand.
