@chronically-enthusiastic's audio drama blog! Welcome to the realm in which my most obscure interests lie (may be an exaggeration if you count phage therapy and bryophytes as obscure)

On this blog I feel it pertinant to include a list of all the podcasts I have listened to! So, I hereby link to the spreadsheet where i store all of my audio drama things: Spreadsheet!

However, in the case that you dont want to do that, the highlights are: wooden overcoats, the amelia project, the bright sessions, oblivity, and the strange case of starship iris! I also listen to lots of non-fiction podcasts, but I dont talk about those as much.

Podcast rec, anyone?

I'm gonna be away without wifi for a few weeks next month and since my dash has been so good recommending books (the hands of the emperor is gonna be my summer read, thank you all) I wondered if you might have some fiction podcast recs for me?

I'm looking for narrative fiction with a little adventure, romance and fantasy. I love immersive stories very much. I can't do straight up horror, but horror elements in a fantasy setting are fine.

Podcasts I have enjoyed a lot:

Welcome to Nightvale

Community radio from a town where eldritch horrors are commonplace. A classic.

The Penumbra - Juno Steel

A film noir style private eye on Mars tangling with a homme fatale super thief. Very good character writing

Within the Wires

Found audio distopian utopian puzzle story about how humanity solved war by dissolving nation and family ties. Very immersive.

The Strange Case of Starship Iris

Smugglers and revolutions in space plus now i'm very invested in the alien tv show the characters watch

Midnight Radio

It's a ghost story, it's a love story.

re:Carmilla

It's the novel Carmilla. Sapphic vampires. 10/10

Love and Luck

Queer romance with magic and getting a bar to make a safe space. Told in voicemails.

Dreamboy

So beautifully scored I will forgive the fact I still have no clue what this story was about

Life with LEO(h)

A robotics intelligence lawyer in 2242 is gifted a highly illegal android who's programmed to love her by her grateful evil scientist client. The tension comes from the balance of agency and lack of consent for someone with programmed emotions. It's a romcom!

Hi yes!

First of all, our show's lead Dai has Bipolar Disorder and multiple members of our cast and crew are disabled.

The second season of Arden also has a Bipolar protagonist, written by a writer with Bipolar disorder, and it's a truly beautiful and compelling story.

Of special importance to me is Ghosted by @longcatmedia, which focuses on migraines and chronic illness and is a beautiful and haunting story. (You can find it on their Magenta Presents podcast feed.)

There are multiple disabled characters in Moonbase Theta Out by @monkeymanproductions, which also has disabled cast and crew members.

@secondstartotheleftpodcast is about a disabled woman who falls in love long distance with a trans person and is a show that, in my opinion, is severely underrated.

I'm pretty certain Love and Luck has multiple disabled protagonists and it's a show that's co-written by a wheelchair user who also plays one of the main characters.

Vast Horizon by @foolandscholar has a disabled lead, and multiple F&S shows star Tanja Milojevic, a truly brilliant blind actor.

The Pilgrimage Saga by @starstrider-productions has an autistic lead who struggles with ableism and fitting in with their crew aboard a spaceship.

The Bright Sessions is famously about a bunch of people getting therapy for different mental illnesses, and as a result has an almost entirely disabled cast of characters.

Breathing Space by @lawofnamesmedia is a sci-fi anthology with multiple recurring characters and storylines, many of whom are disabled.

@unwellpodcast stars a character with Dementia, who is in the series from episode 1 until the end. Her adjustment to her condition and the way it worsens is a major theme of the show throughout the series.

We Fix Space Junk and, I believe, Windfall both have amputee protagonists with prosthetic limbs. Malevolent stars a magically blinded character. Whilst controversial for its handling of Black characters and representation, The Penumbra Podcast stars a half-blind character.

Also a shout-out to other disabled creators in the space, including but not limited to @hangingslothcentral, Sasha Sienna, @fayrobertsuk , Naomi Clarke, Mischa Stanton, Lindsay Sharman and yours truly (Ella Watts).

Do you have some hyper specific headcanon about the Amelia Project Staff?

Me, for example, am a firm believer that Joe has a chipped front tooth and that Salvatore and him were baptized in the same church, attending the same Sunday catholic school. They have matching rosaries.

Arthur and Alvina like the same chocolate liqueur brand.

Arthur and Amelia are the worst drunks EVER. They will tend to the worst imaginable ideas ever while drunk. Terrible ppl to be taken care of.

Oh dear, the can of worms you just opened. A few dumb headcanons by my molten brain, while I wait for my washing machine being done. None of this is canon, I am just jumping on the train wagon here...

Arthur and Alvina like to judge "fake deaths" from movies, tv and books. Why? Because I played Genshin, and there was a 10/10 dramatically faked death, but the guy then wanted to end up solving his own murder. Zero stars for *that*. Or that, uh, one TV show where- *sunglasses*. ANYWAYS.

Kozlowski has the weirdest music taste. I do firmly believe that he likes a few specific songs by David Kushner though. Dance Battle with himself in the basement, perhaps?

Alvina introduced Arthur to the Sims2 for Nintendo DS, especially the hotel one from 2005. The had to take it away because he got absorbed too much. Also, he thinks that Honest Jackson faked his death in an awful manner - not believing anyone it was a bug.

They gave Kozlowski Nintendogs. Nobody knows what happened to them (Mia and Jackie get confused when he suddenly takes out a pink Nintendo DS Lite and feeds the dogs though. He's good at this).

Amelia hates popcorn. Don't ask me why.

Arthur once chased Alvina with a broom for cocoa reasons (nobody knows where he got the broom from)

Alvina steals pens from everyone and everywhere. Can never have enough pens
