[A sleeping fox cub, “Doing my best includes self care and rest,” written over it.]
Hey everyone, my name’s Pete. I’m 26, transgender (they/them), queer, and I have fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is, in short, a pain disease. It’s characterised primarily by widespread pain through the body. There’s no cure. The cause is unknown. It’s for life. It can only be managed.
I’ve had it about ten years or so, beginning early to mid puberty, and my case is pretty severe - unable to work, on mobility assistance devices, and on hard medication to function. Prepping, for me, is a way of maintaining independence and quality of life.
I’m also non-neurotypical, autistic and mentally ill, and prepping has formed into a Special Interest and has greatly helped my mental health. (There’s also visual impairment and skeletal issues.)
Since I started this blog, I’ve been posting my health help, and since I’ve gotten such positive responses, I thought a master post might be might be easier to reach more people and give them resources. While I prep for fibro, this stuff is helpful for most chronic pain/illness conditions. I’ll be posting more in the future, but this is what’s been done so far.
I didn’t know any of this stuff when I started out, it’s been learned through trial and error. Please reblog and share to help chronically ill people and the people around them.
Here is the tag - “pete’s health help” - where all these posts can be found on my blog.
