Hi. I'm Vietnamese American. 28 years old. She/Her. Bisexual. Demisexual. Gender-nonconforming/Butch/Tomboy.

You can call me "Chronoscout". Or "Chrono" or "Scout" for short.

I love meat and cheese. Cheeseburgers are the best.

I mainly write fantasy/adventure fanfics and original stories with Vietnamese OCs and protagonists. Vietnamese characters are hard to find so I decided to take matters into my own hands. ✌

I also draw sometimes, play video games, and watch anime.

The tale of a modern-day woman's journey in the Mo Dao Zu Shi world and her quest to find a way back home. Which would be a lot easier if she wasn't-

1) stuck in a new world full of ghosts, demons, monsters, and scheming cultivators 2) shrunk back into a little kid again 3) cross-dressing to evade the social norms forced on women in this era 4) studying cultivation (because apparently farming isn't a good way to search for some interdimensional portal back to your universe) 5) failing miserably to avoid canon

The Senra Saga: Moonlight & Mist

Genres: Steampunk Fantasy, Adventure, Romance (Bisexual M/F, F/F, & M/M - All the main characters are bisexual)

Summary: A mechanic, a fox spirit (hồ ly tinh) bard, a fairy warrior, a fish, the Chancellor's runaway daughter, two treasure hunters, a farmer, and a cowboy get forced onto an airship together on a quest to gather 7 long-lost legendary artifacts to save the world from a resurrected ancient evil, the wicked Fox Demon Queen. On their journey, they will discover and unravel the hidden truths and lies of the world around them.

Details: Takes place in a queernormative Vietnamese fantasy world called Senra. Takes place either centuries or millennia (I'm still deciding how much time has passed) after Senra's high fantasy era ends. Ancient legends and enemies from the high fantasy era reemerge during the steampunk technology era. Humans dominate this world and the high fantasy era was so long ago that humans either fear mystical creatures or don't believe they exist. Very, very loosely inspired by Vietnamese mythology (the legend of the Dragon King & the legendary sword Thuận Thiên being some of the myths prominently featured). A similar worldbuilding process to how Masashi Kishimoto based a lot of elements and worldbuilding in Naruto (like Sasuke, Jiraiya, & the Kyuubi) on Japanese folklore and culture (Sasuke Sarutobi, The Tale of the Gallant Jiraiya, & the kitsune). Also, like how Dragon Ball is so clearly inspired by Journey to the West but it became its own thing and story. The characters use martial arts (Vovinam or Việt Võ Đạo) because I like martial arts media and Vietnamese martial arts need more love. If Moonlight & Mist ever got an animated series and live-action adaptation, I would want Vovinam coordinators to work on them. That would be my dream come true.

Through the Window

Genres: Cyberpunk, Supernatural-Horror, Urban Fantasy, Mystery, Adventure, Romance (Bisexual F/F - meaning two bisexual women fall in love with each other)

Summary: Riley Linh, a human who died and got recruited as a grim reaper (thần chết), finds herself mysteriously resurrected in a distant cyberpunk future, very different from the 2020s she once knew when she was alive. Now a human once more but still able to use her grim reaper abilities, she encounters a Vietnamese American Goth human girl, a Vietnamese Canadian Batatut trucker, a Vietnamese German Night Flyer, and a talking black cat. Together, they deal with serial killers, hostile supernatural beings, a cult, and the sinister Ouroboros corporation across the globe.

Details: Takes place in our world (well...with disguised urban fantasy/supernatural creatures and beings existing secretly alongside humans) over 800 years in the future in the year 2871. Centered around Vietnamese supernatural beings and cryptids.

Across the Cosmos

Genres: Science Fantasy, Space Opera, Not exactly Chinese xianxia because I am exploring Vietnamese fantasy but xianxia is the closest cultural equivalent that more people are familiar with, Dị giới (The Vietnamese term for Isekai) Romance - The protagonist of a Space Opera (captain of a spaceship, Vân) and the protagonist of a Vietnamese Fantasy (long silver-haired space elf martial arts swordsman, Lan) fall in love. Bi4bi m/f

Summary: A plucky spaceship crew gets sucked through a wormhole into a Vietnamese-inspired fantasy realm in middle of a war. Upon crash-landing, the realm's residents take them in. The crew repay their rescuers' kindness by providing them with their technology to help boost their rescuers' mystical abilities. The crew is recruited by their rescuers' military force in return for resources to repair the spaceship. But the longer the crew stays in this realm, the more they wonder if they may be working for the wrong side.

Details: Takes place in our world in the very, very distant future (note: this is not in the same universe as Through the Window). Space Travel is common in this era. Also takes place in the alternate Vietnamese fantasy realm that the crew gets transported to.

Media Influences:

The various space opera/science fantasy podcasts, video games, and books I looked at growing up.

Star Wars - Disney will never offer reparations for what they did to Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico) in the sequel trilogy so I might as well make the space opera of my dreams focusing on Vietnamese heroines myself. (Yes, I know Raya and the Last Dragon exists but I felt like that movie could have been done a lot better).

This is how writers should deal with characters who are too smart for the arc instead of making them suddenly dumber for no apparent reason.

If you frequently find yourself in random situations while your friends happen to be experiencing problems maybe you, too, are too smart for the narrative.

My first ever OC was called Rogue, and she looked exactly like me but better and was badass and wore leather jackets and I wrote her into (really bad) yugioh fic when I was like 11 and I had the best time ever posting my shitty stories on ff.n

And no one ever sent me hate or flames, I got lovely reviews asking for more and telling me that they liked my story and honestly, I wouldn’t have got so involved in fic without the support of all these random strangers on the internet.

OCs and self inserts are fun. Alternate universes are fun. Writing a fic where you save the day and your favourite character loves you is fun. I still have an OC who obnoxiously reflects myself and maybe I know more now to develop them into a good character, but it’s FUN.

Please don’t ever be nasty to people who are having fun and hurting no one. There’s nothing wrong with posting stories online, no matter your skill level or execution.

Personally, I write Isekai/Transmigration/Portal Fantasy/Another World OC fanfic as a mix of Isekai of fictional works from our world and my personal fantasies. I find Isekai OC fanfic cool since it's isekai of a world we are familiar with instead of an unfamiliar world we have to learn about in original isekai fiction. It's fascinating. It feels awkward for me to project onto canon characters when I could just make up an OC with the traits needed for the story I want to tell. For in-universe OCs who are part of the canon world, they present a new perspective of the canon world that we don't get from canon characters due to their occupations and backgrounds. They may even add cultural diversity as well. A lot of the complaints and pitfalls I see people point out in OC fanfics are also present in canon character fanfics like power fantasies, instalove, OOCness, and projection of the author's personal desires. I would know because I read both. I hope the OC haters from the 2000s and now don't harrass anyone. It's ok to hate the trope and have pet peeves (everyone in fandom does). Just don't be rude to your fellow fans.

If you write a story about yourself and your favorite character in their world, or them in ours, and you are worried about being ridiculed. You shouldn’t be, because it is creative and unique.

If you do post self-insert art/stories, than I admire you and respect you so much. I am happy that you decided to share your talents with the world.

If you create anything involving you and a favorite character, or series, and you are feeling discouraged about it because someone is making fun of you for it; Fuck ‘em. Any type of art is a freedom of expression, an outlet for emotions and ideas. Don’t let anyone keep you down from what you enjoy.

If you ridicule someone for creating something with their favorite character/series and them, stop it. You have no right to mock someone for doing something they enjoy. As long as it’s not hurting anyone who cares? Let them be happy.

All types of art matters, no matter what. Do what you want to do. If it’s not hurting anyone, who cares?
