❝ Then you should be proud to have Galahad as your companion. I’ve found few to be as outstanding as Destiny, but Galahad appears to be a trustworthy animal. Safety is always the first priority of a maiden. ❞
Edward sat straighter within his saddle, an unshakable confidence displayed on his chiseled face. Galahad and Destiny were of different breeds and raised with different training. From birth, Destiny had always been expected to be a hero’s horse, and proven himself again and again. Galahad likely never had that training and was unused to combat. Of course he was likely to flee from a fight and for that, Ella would be safe. Attempting to stay while she herself wished to leave would only result in her injury.
Edward peered past Ella for a moment as he stared at their path, or what could be assumed as a one. Grass grew high and unbroken along the forest floor. He never would have assumed this to be a direction for water and was lucky to have Ella leading him. From the maps of the region he had studied before setting out, Destiny would have remained thirsty for much longer. Pulling his attention back to her words, Edward gave Ella a generous nod. ❝ Your concern is appreciated, but I do not believe much in these woods could cause me harm. However, even should a manticore burst forth from the bushes, I shall ensure you have time to escape. You have my word. ❞
The smart old horse had walked these paths a hundred times, the twisting paths and low hanging branches were familiar, after some gentle nudging from Ella, they entered the right path. It was a good thing he was so confident in his gait, because his rider still felt shaken; the canopy of trees over them did not bring its usual comfort, it created dark shadows around them, the dancing sunlight seemed to be mocking her.
“A manticore?” eyebrows furrowing, Ella looked back at him, a question in her eyes. “I think we are safe from them here.” there was a lot of magic in these woods, but she didn’t think a flying lion was among its inhabitants. The ground beneath them grew softer, the music of the stream reaching their ears a second later. Forest life was vibrant around the stream; squirrels climbed the trees as they approached, a small brown fawn raised its head at them from the river bank, it stared at them until its mother nudged him to run, some birds flew away at their entrance, though most continued their song.
Jumping from Galahad, Ella immediately moved to hug his neck, heart beating wildly on her chest. “Thank you.”
“Mostly, I want to be kind.”

casual reminder ella is the cutest thing to ever exist.
there are little things about queen ella that raise the court’s eyebrows -- her calloused hands, full of little marks and cuts that never fully healed. a gap in her general cultural knowledge, especially about the last war. and these things are never fully explained to them, because ella refuses to talk about it and tarnish lady tremaine’s name. sure, she was very glad when she heard lady tremaine left the kingdom, she never wants to see her again, but she doesn’t want to punish her or hurt her.
or anastasia and drizella. she doesn’t see any reason to point fingers, always saying as little as possible about her life after her father died, and always in general terms.
beauteintelligente:
to say that ella was most certainly the type of friend who was motherly, was an understatement. Belle gave a small smile, and a slight sigh she knew that she wasn’t going to be able to hide it from the blonde, she had already seen straight through her. “..yes.. yes it will” belle replied honestly, “but it’s just a cold.. I still have all these things to do.. and philippe still needs his hay replaced” of course she referring to the brilliant white stallion. “ella.. I know you’re only trying to help but I can’t rest until that’s done” not to mention she had to grab a baguette and jam for agatha, no one else in the village was going to help the poor woman.
“Then you must rest!” she knew better than anyone else what it was like to fight through disease or pain to get something done, rest was something she could rarely afford; whatever excuse Belle could come up with, had fallen from her lips a thousand times. “I can do that! I have a few hours before I need to start preparing dinner, tell me what it is you still need to do today, and I’ll do it before I go home. But first, we need to get you home! I’ll make you some soup, you’ll be right as rain in no time!”

* mini starter call
“Have you ever watched how crabs DISAPPEAR into the sands? It’s actually quite a fascinating sight. How it comes NATURAL to them— how they just move sideways. Imagine if we could only move sideways, it would be quite the STRUGGLE I imagine.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever taken the time!” she had the hazy memory of learning about this once, the absurdity of the fact, disappearing from her mind as the years passed. “Well -- would we be able to change the direction? Suppose you start walking from south to north, and north to south, will you ever be able to switch to east to west? Can crabs?”
“Take me to the flowers, to the place where petals rest, when the nights are dark and the air is cold and there's nothing gentle left. I want to wake up in a meadow warmed by golden light, and see the butterflies again, and know I'll be alright.”
— Ellis Nightingale
