âCivil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of leadersâŠand millions have been killed because of this obedienceâŠOur problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves⊠(and) the grand thieves are running the country. Thatâs our problem.â

Americans:
Reblog if you didnât watch the State of the Union Address.
Just trying to prove a point here.
When the nationâs representatives pass sweeping tax legislation that the majority of voters do not want and that will in the long-run harm most citizensâââhelping instead corporations, a small, rich elite (including donors), and the politicians themselvesâââthere can be only one interpretation: Â Our representatives no longer represent the public; they do not care to. American democracy has died. Â Democracy didnât die in darkness. It died in the light. Â The full glare of journalism was turned on this legislation, its impact and motives, but that didnât matter to those who had the power to go ahead anyway. Journalism, then, proved to be an ineffective protector of democracy, just as it is proving ineffective against every other attack on democracyâs institutions by this gang. Fox News was right to declare a coup, wrong about the source. The coup already happened. The junta is in power. In fact, Fox News led it. We have an administration and Congress that are tearing down government institutionsâââlaw enforcement, the courts, the State Department and foreign relations, safety nets, consumer protection, environmental protectionâââand societyâs institutions, starting with the press and science, not to mention truth itself. The junta is, collaborative or independently, doing the bidding of a foreign power whose aim is to get democracy to destroy itself. Journalism, apparently, was powerless to stop any of this.

Also, as I have posted before, SS and Medicare benefits are paid out of the money we are paying in and have nothing to do with the Federal budget. Except for the fact that Congress has been using the Social Security Trust Fund as a piggy bankâŠ
Republicans have no intention of ever paying the Social Security Trust Fund back, so letâs call it what it is, a theft of our money to pay for their tax scam.

America isnât the only place affected by weather⊠and far less lives were lost in Houston than the other places mentioned so I wonder why the media is only talking about Harveyđ€
President Trump on Wednesday pitched a sweeping tax overhaul that he said would unleash the American economy and growth to help ordinary people, promising that a vague recipe of large corporate tax cuts and individual tax reductions would boost the middle class.
Trump in Missouri Lays Groundwork for Tax Overhaul but Offers No Details
They have been telling this lie since Reagan in 1980. It was bullshit then, and itâs bullshit now. Tax cuts on wealthy people and tax cuts on corporations do not make life better for the middle class or anyone who isnât already wealthy.

Transgender Americans: Why canât we serve in the military?
Trump Administration: Too disruptive to morale.
Current & Former Vets: I donât care about anybodyâs genitals as long as they have my back.
Trump Administration: Too many of em anyway.
Numbers: There are less than 7,000 trans military personnel out of a force of 1.3 million people.
Trump Administration: Too much âelectiveâ surgery to pay for.
Statistics: The Rand Corp. study from 2016 estimates that there are only 25 to 130 gender reassignment surgeries annually among service members.
Trump Administration: Too much money having to pay for that though.
Receipts: Transition related healthcare costs range from $2.4 million to $8.4 million per year. The military spends $84 million a year just to treat erectile dysfunction.
Trump Administration: We donât have any more fake reasons to offer y'all. Obviously weâre just pandering to the core of our bigoted base that hates everything if it isnât straight, Christian, and white. Stop asking us for facts or valid reasons. This is just garden variety transphobia and ignorance.
