Born in Osaka, Japan, Mio Asahi studied at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto. She is celebrated for her mastery of Western printmaking techniques, particularly etching and aquatint, which she integrates with Japanese aesthetics. The result is a body of work that merges precise craftsmanship with imaginative, narrative-rich imagery. Her art often evokes feelings of nostalgia and wonder.

Mio Asahi’s prints transport viewers to surreal landscapes where mythical creatures and empowered women embark on extraordinary journeys. Titles such as 'The Place where the Water Meets', 'Master of the Monster Bird', and 'Lake Dwells Dragon' reflect her creative vision.

Mio Asahi comments on her creative process:

"I am often asked if my works are based on myths or stories. In truth, they come entirely from my imagination. The strange animals, human-like beings, and plants in my prints exist only in fantasy. The so-called 'masters' in my works are not rulers but companions. For instance, the stout lady represents wholesomeness, strength, power, and an unbreakable will."
