maybe i’m too woke but all the americans basically going “ugh! canadian wildfire smoke! soo annoying” are pissing me the fuck off

see like this is what i’m saying. yeah wildfire smoke sucks and it’s a serious health issue but i feel like there’s a narcissistic lack of concern for those most directly affected that is typical for americans. every wildfire season in canada for the last few years entire communities have been literally destroyed yet americans still have this “we have it worse” mentality…

i keep coming back to this because i'm actually fascinated by the mentality of the medium-intelligent american... i just can't understand the way they are always really interested in current events but only as superficial, us-centric retellings of what's actively happening, no curiosity or analysis, no understanding of the event's place in historical or political contexts... other countries are flattened into empty spaces where things just happen with no human impact or cost, unless they inconvenience a real person, which is to say an american person... how do they live like this
