So…. (….ugh…🤦🏻‍♂️) Long story short, did anyone lose a 4-6 month, high energy, female dog that very closely resembles a coyote? If not, does anyone WANT a 4-6 month, high energy, female dog that very closely resembles a coyote? This morning we’re on our way to the vet to make sure Boomer’s wound is healing properly (he’s fine and his new family is picking him up tomorrow) When we come across this little thing eating out of a garbage bin outside the entrance to Baie Rouge. A chain leash still wrapped around her neck. It took some doing but I was finally able to catch her. Boomer update: We picked him up from the vet Monday. Blood work was all good except for anemia, which is common for dogs whose diets consist mainly of garbage and roadkill. That will clear up with a few weeks of decent food. Shockingly there was no heartworm or tick fever. His wound was debrided, disinfected and stitched as best they could, but it will be a long healing process. It damage was very deep. Now he wears a fashionable crop top t-shirt to protect the stitches from his scratching. Boomer is easily the kindest, gentlest dog I’ve ever met. All he wants to do is love and be loved. He hasn’t so much as barked since we’ve had him, and trust me, Mama has given him ample reason to (she still likes to remind him she’s in charge from time to time). He gets along great with other dogs, kids and adults. The final test will be cats. Knowing how completely adorable he is, I am even more amazed anyone could mistreat such a gentle soul. But…every day he’s gaining weight and getting stronger. I was supposed to go to the office this morning Instead I saved a dog (much better use of my time) Everyone meet Boomer Thanks to Caroline, who alerted the Animaux Perdus/Trouvés à Saint-Martin group last night that there was a dog in desperate need of help in Concordia This morning I found him Boomer is around one year old. He’s a small island mutt/Coconut Retriever with some obvious Beagle in him (nudge nudge Iain McPherson ) 😉. He’s skin and bones, covered in fleas, has various lacerations over his body and a massive open wound from a wire or cord leash sawing through his neck Fortunately he got away from whatever hell he was in before it became fatal He’s timid, friendly, curious and despite the obvious trauma inflicted on him by humans, let me pick him up without so much as a whimper and started wagging his tail after about 10 minutes Boomer is now at the vet getting the care he deserves. Day 9 (part 2): The Chobe Game Lodge is located on the Chobe river which, like all bodies of fresh water in Africa, is a focal point for all wildlife. Taking a boat down the river puts you in the middle of it all. Day 9 (part 1): Leaving Namibia behind we fly low and fast over to Botswana and the Chobe Game Lodge in the Chobe National Park. If we thought we encountered a lot of wildlife before, we were wrong. Very wrong. The Chobe National Park is basically wildlife soup. On our final approach to the airport we flew over the Chobe river where we could see HUNDREDS of black dots along the riverbanks. "Are those...ELEPHANTS?!?!?" "Yup" Botswana actually has the opposite problem of many African nations. They have an OVERpopulation of elephants.
