I really need your help. It has been a week since my pup was hit by a motorcycle. Thankfully, his appetite has returned and he eats well, but his left leg is still paralyzed. The swelling has gone down, yet his foot has no strength or life in it. He can’t stand, walk, or play the way he used to, and it breaks my heart to see him struggle. I want to take him to the vet as soon as possible, but I can’t do it alone.

Before the accident, he was the most energetic of all the puppies—always running, playing, and full of life. Now, he spends most of his time lying down, watching his siblings play, wanting so badly to join them but unable to. It’s so painful to see him like this.

Overview of some topics when it comes to drawing characters who are burn survivors.

DISCLAIMER. Please keep in mind that this is an introductory overview for drawing some burn scars and has a lot of generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. I'm calling this introductory because I hope to get people to actually do their own research before drawing disabled & visibly different characters rather than just making stuff up. Think of it as a starting point and take it with a grain of salt (especially if you have a very different art style from mine).

Talking about research and learning... don't make your burn survivor characters evil. Burn survivors are normal people and don't deserve to be constantly portrayed in such a way.

Hey anon, I’m a 6’4 trans woman who’s built like a linebacker. I was in your shoes, I know exactly how scary it seems. But trust me when I say transitioning was the single best decision I ever made. I’m so much happier now, I don’t hate every aspect of my body, I’m only 1 year into HRT but I’m already so excited about the idea of living and growing and becoming more me. Trust me when I say that the world needs more 6’4 broad shouldered trans women who get to experience the joy they deserve far more than it needs another miserable 6’4 dude who feels hopeless for the future and has dead lifeless eyes.
