It was 9:30 PM, and Father Levi was tired. Today of all days, endless members of the church had chosen Friday night to visit confessionals, and he had gone well past his normal time to accommodate everyone. While he had a spotless reputation despite people calling him terse and maybe not as approachable as Father Erwin, he got the job done and his sermons always had positive reception, particularly among the students of the school since he was able to accommodate daytime schedules.
He heard the door squeak shut for his last and final confessional, and he began as he always did: “What troubles you child?”
An sharp intake of air could be heard between the divider and he patiently waited as he heard a voice stammer out, “F-forgive me father, for I have sinned. It has been months since my last confession.”
She sounded young, so it wasn’t uncommon that it had been a while since his last confession. Headache pounding, he proceeded, “Well, what is it? You don’t have to fear judgement, God forgives all.”
Another breath and this time, the voice sounding more familiar as she said, “I have been having impure thoughts about someone I shouldn’t have impure thoughts. I’m only 17, and this person is well above my age, but I see him every day, and I can’t help myself.”
Ah, lust. A sin, and yet there wasn’t a single human on this Earth that was not found guilty.
“Are you sure it is feelings of lust that surround you? Love is not a sin,” he said carefully, beginning to put name to the voice.
Petra Ral, a star student among her classmates, and she attended every single one of his sermons, even the ones after school that usually had low attendance. She always sat in the front pew and spent a few minutes after the sermon to pray at the pulpit.
He heard her swallow.
“I don’t know if it could be called love, Father. I yearn for him like no person should. After all, it would be forbidden.”
The passion in Petra’s voice made Levi pause, and an ugly feeling crossed his heart as he recognized it. Jealousy. He was ever curious who Petra’s taboo paramour was, and he sat at the edge of his seat while he whispered into the dark, “Few loves are forbidden. What makes you say so? You’re just shy of adulthood.”
Petra leaned against the wood of the confessional, and the only thing that separated them was the patterned wood between the booths. She sighed.
“He has devoted his life to God, and I’d like to respect that.”
Levi’s hands clenched into fists. Of course it would be Erwin, the man was far too handsome for his own good, and while he knew Erwin had pledged himself to God, it never went past Levi that he was a smooth talker among the women of the congregation.
“Shall we pray?” He asked, wanting to end the conversation as soon as possible but Petra interjected.
“No, I think I need to say how I feel. If I can let these words out, then maybe I can forget my feelings. Would that be okay, Father?”
How was he supposed to say no when it was his sole duty to hear the members of his church, but anger coiled in his stomach.
“God forgives everything,” he choked out. “Proceed.” And he tried not to think about all of the times he thought about her honey laden gaze, the way she would cross her legs in the classroom, and despite her plaid skirt’s modest length, how he received a glorious view of her calves when she swiveled in her seat.
Or the tight button up shirt she always wore, emphasizing her breasts, and he wondered why she wasn’t taken out since she clearly chose a size too small. Paired with a tie and a matching plaid headband, she was a dream, always smiling and giggling with her friends, but only having eyes for him during his sermons.
Petra breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Father. I think this would be helpful.” And she skirted to the side of the bench and leaned up against the barrier between them.
“He makes me wet with desire, after each of his sermons, I’m always soaked and then I have to excuse myself to the restroom afterward.”
What the fuck?! Levi thought, caught off guard by her brazenness despite this being confessional.

He sometimes teaches my religion class, and I would ask him for clarification from one of his lectures. Then I would kiss him and run my lips past his perfect jawline. I would pull at his clerical collar, wondering how far I would have to go before it snaps or comes undone and ask him to take me on his desk.”

His hand loudly hit the side of the bench as he reached absolution, and Petra jumped from the sound, and waited as Levi moaned into his hand, taking care not to get it inside the confessional booth as he caught it with the fold of his pants.
“Father, is everything okay?” She asked, inching closer to the divider.
Their eyes met, and he saw a ghost of a smirk as she confirmed her suspicions, his ebony bangs sticking to his forehead from his self-induced heat.

Levi, one of the best written characters in manga history
At the end of attack on titan, Levi solidified the fact that he's humanity's strongest not only in the aot world, but also in the entirety of manga world.
Levi's first introduced in chapter 9.5, and as soon as we see him we're presented to one of his most memorable quirks: being a clean freak. Levi's very indifferent to his title as humanity's strongest and seems to go as far as to feel embarrassed by it at times, since it makes all eyes go on him when the sc is passing by.
Later in the chapter, when one of his comrades Is about to die, we see Levi go against his aversion to dirt by holding his dying friend's hand. It is then that we are presented to my favorite personality trait of Levi's: he's extremely caring with those he loves.
Levi's care is shown in the ACWRN spin off in its crudest form, in a Levi in his 20s that still hadn't learned how to control his impulses, that would do anything to protect the first friends he ever made in his life.
The complexity of Levi's relationship with violence is insane, because while he despises those that enjoy violence, despises those that think blood should be spilt for fun,
He also doesn't mind becoming a monster to achieve a greater goal for humanity.
Levi was born in violence. He was raised in it, practiced it, and still, he was able to maintain the kernel of his heart intact. Levi has seen and done horrible things. He's an abnormal, and one of the most human characters in the whole series.
A moment where we're able to see Levi's pain shine through is when he kills Zeke. Levi spent years readying himself for that moment. He spent years waiting for the day he'd finally follow through with his promise to Erwin, waited so he could save humanity. And then, when he finally does it, he feels nothing but pain. Because Levi was born in violence, raised in it, practiced it, but was still aversed by it. At the end of the moment, when his promise was fullfilled, when his goal was achieved, he felt pained that this.... This is what it all came down to.
Levi doesn't say "i love you" conventionally. Instead he says "thank you", because that's the way he feels love. Levi feels love in the form of gratitude, because its in those people -his friends- that he's able to find fhe strength to fight. Levi isn't strong because he's an Ackerman, or because he's just unbelievably skilled. Levi's strong because of the love he feels for those around him.
The way Levi sees the world...
And the way he interacts with it...
All come from love, in its purest form.
Now in his 40s, Levi's the only person in all of humanity that lived the world of the walls in its crudest, most violent form. Levi's the only one that knows the stories, the faces and the names of those that made their win possible. Levi's the only one that lived every bit of it, from humanity's worst moments of dispair to its most glorious days of victory. Levi's the golden stem that connects the past and the future. He's a product of all the love there is in this world. And I'm so thankful that, even after so much loss, he's not alone in the end.
Levi's not humanity's strongest because of his speed, his agility, or his last name. Levi's humanity's strongest because even in death, he was able to find love, and move on. And I know living is a choice he doesn't regret.
