He cheated on her. Had an affair with my teacher. ā¦my fucking third grade teacher. Heā¦he had every chance to come back. We didnāt leave anywhere. Not until we couldnāt afford the house anymore. Then we moved to the small house. Two bedrooms that my mom and Annie need to share a room even though I said Iād sleep on the couch so they didnāt need to worry about that. My mom is my hero. She does everything she can to make sure Annie and I have everything we need. We may not have the most money in the world or the best stuff or the nicest clothes, but we get by. ā¦I donāt want to meet him. He has his own life. Iāve seen him before. Never said hi. Pretty sure he doesnāt even know we exist. I justā¦I donāt want to end up like him. Thatās whyā¦when people look at me, find out that Iāve had a girlfriend for as long as I did and then find out we broke upā¦they automatically think I cheated, considering who I am. But I wouldnātā¦Iād never do that. Put someone through as much pain as my mother went through. ā¦I know, Riss. And Iāll always be here for you.
''I know how it is...I really do. People judge you by your appearance, by your cover, but even more, they judge you by your parents. I don't understand why someone might think that just because our dads did something wrong, we have their genes so we will do the same thing. That's definitely not true. And it feels awful. You have no idea how many years I was bullied at school. Every time I was feeling dizzy or had a headache, people would immediately assume that I was drinking. Being judged by others when they don't know a single thing about what's going on sucks. But don't worry. We both have our friends and of course, we both have each other. We know what's true and what is not. What's real and not. We don't have to pretend to be okay when we are not. Sometimes we just have to smash something or start crying for no reason. I'm sorry I act like that but, I just feel way better that I've said all those things to someone.''
He doesnāt want a second chance, Riss. He left. Walked out. Annie and Iā¦we were seven and eight. Woke up to my parents screaming at each other and my dad breaking somethingā¦I think it was a vase, and he stormed out of the house with a suitcase, didnāt come back. Didnāt say goodbye. We just watched him drive off and he didnāt turn around or come back for us. The next time we heard from him, he had a new wife and a new baby. A boy, who, as far as I can tell, is the light of his life. Everything that kid does is perfect in his eyes, and I think back to when I was youngerā¦playing football or running track or doing well in schoolā¦nothing was good enough for him. ā¦guess thatās why I always tried harder. Pushed myself more. One of the reasons, at least. He doesnāt deserve a second chance, Riss. He left us and doesnāt care about us. Soā¦fuck him. ācourse Iād bring you waffles and watch movies with you. Any movie of your choice. Iād be there in a heartbeat.
''Did you ever try asking your mum about it? Learn her side of the story? What he did...leaving you behind with your little sister...was terrible. I know exactly what it feels like being left alone. My dad was a fucking drunk, remember? It was his fault that he was driving that night when both of my parents were killed. This stupid drunk cost me my parents and left me alone with my twin brother, Mark. So believe me, I know how it is. At least you had a mother for support. I had nothing. Wouldn't you want to meet your half-brother, though? You didn't have to strive to be perfect. YouĀ wereĀ perfect in your own way. You still are. I will always be here for you, you know that, right?''
I dunno. I donāt really care what kind of girls they are. I just want someone whoāll look past my whole manwhore facade and realize Iām more than that. Someone whoāll realize that underneath this really hot body, Iām actually kind of one of the coolest guys youāll ever meet. When youāre sad, Iāll bring you waffles in bed and watch Disney movies with you to make you feel better. And when we go out on a date, Iāll get all dressed up, bring you flowers, and be cheesy as fuck. But then thereāll be the times when I am just a huge goofball and I do just want to have a good time. And someone who realizes Iām a total Mommaās boy and proud of it, and my sister is my best friend and I love her to death and would do anything for her. ā¦but I want someone to realize Iām fucking terrified of fucking up life like my dad did. ā¦that Iām scared Iāll just become a check on your birthday and a quick āhey, Merry Christmasā phonecall because I didnāt have anyone to show me otherwise and Iām scared being a fucktard is genetic. ā¦I just want a girl who understands me. Thatās all.
''You are one of the most awesome and good guys I know and I'm totally sure that you will find that girl you are looking for. And once you do, she will be one hell of a lucky girl. Believe me, there aren't many guys that really care about us women at all. They just see us as sex symbols, something that is sexist and unfair as fuck. My dad was not perfect either...but you should not hold a grudge against him. If I learned one thing from him is that everybody deserves a second chance. I just hope that you will bring me waffles and watch movies with me when I'm sad as well. Though, I'm a more of action movie type rather than a Disney one.''
"It looks great, actually."
''Hmm. I think I like it as well. Danielle will be my alter ego from now on. I always wanted to have one.''
I meant like go watch a band play or something. No matter where you are in the world thereās always going to be music some where.
''You definitely have a point here. Do you know if any concerts are taking place here?''
"I will be there in 2 minutes."
''Don't forget your cop costume and your handcuffs.''
ā¦do you really think Iāve slept with fifty people? I mean, the number is up there, but itās not that high. Iāve still gotā¦thirteen more to go before I reach fifty. Think I can get that high before I find a girl I actually like?
''I was not sure but you just confirmed that I was not so wrong, either. I don't know. Are island girls your type?''
"A fine choice by a fine lady. Have a seat and let the staff take care of the champagne."
''Why thank you, sir. The name's Clarissa, by the way. Clarissa Cooper. Who you might be?''
"That can be arranged, if you want. Whatās your juice, Dom Perignon? Veuve Clicquot? Krug, perhaps?"Ā
''I'm more of a Cristal Brut type, actually.''
"I will do whatever you want me to do. So see you in just a minute?"
''That's my man. I will be waiting.''
Itās a mental list, Riss. Not an actual written down list. Iām notĀ that bad. āscuse me? Get out of your way? I donāt think so. Youāre stuck with me.
''Yeah, likeĀ thatĀ changes anything. You still have a list? Come on, tell me. What's the number? I swear if it's up to 50 I will just go and pierce my nipples. Stuck with you? God give me strength.''
Um⦠I mean⦠I guess. Iād rather go see a show though probably.
''I didn't know there were shows here. Which one?''

''You won't even get me a drink, first? Man, this way, you are never getting laid.''
"mmm. Glad to hear it,baby. So where should I meet you?"
''In my room, obviously. Will you dress up? You know, since it's Halloween. Maybe a cop uniform would look good on you. I can be the thief.''
