Eyes Without a Face / Les Yeux sans Visage (1960) dir. Georges Franju
Meet Me In St. Louis (dir. Vincente Minnelli, 1944)
But the main thing is that we’re all going to be together, just like we’ve always been. That’s what really counts. We could be happy anywhere as long as we’re together.
this is such a lovely movie, I loved it.
it has everything an old movie needs, a couple, a ball, and a valorous lesson about family in the end, if you love old movies you will certainly love this one.
sixteen candles (1984)
honestly, not that impressed.
I do get is a classic, but I feel like other 80's movies had a better plot than this, and the ending doesn't make much sense to me.
even though, it's a fine movie to watch to kill time, and it isn't a BAD movie, but it is not the greatest and the plot is kinda weak.
outside from that it's a cute and relatable movie, good to watch when you're down.
Mi obra mestra (2018)
this is that kind of movie that is just a delight to watch, you feel involved in it and it's like you can't stop watching it ever.
it has a lovely history about an rather awkward friendship and it makes you emotional at the same time it makes you laugh.
besides, it talks a lot about art and how the art market works, and it has a lot of good reflections that I think are important when talking about the value of art.
it's a very good movie and great to watch at any time
How do you call your loverboy. Come here loverboy. And if he doesn’t answer. Oh loverboy. And if he still doesn’t answer. I simply say. Baby, oh baby, my sweet baby, you’re the one. Baby, oh baby, my sweet baby, you’re the one.
— Dirty Dancing (1987) dir. Emile Ardolino
why hattie mcdaniel is important
hattie mcdaniel was a black singer, actress, and radio performer. she was the first black actor/actress to win or be nominated for an academy award. but let’s get a little bit of background.
hattie mcdaniel was the daughter of a freed slave and became a singer at a young age. after her singing career fizzled out, she became a maid until she found work playing “hi-hat hattie” on a radio show. she gained recognition and began to work in film, typically playing the role of a maid. after fierce competition, the role of the maid, “mammy”, in Gone With The Wind (1939) was hers.
hattie won the oscar for best supporting actress in 1940. the hotel that the ceremony was held at had a strict no blacks policy, but she was allowed in as a favor and given a seat in the back. no other black person had won an academy award before her.
hattie mcdaniel caught a lot of flack for playing maid characters and once said, “why should i complain about making 700 dollars a week playing a maid? if i didn’t, i’d be making 7 dollars a week being one.”
hattie mcdaniel blazed a trail for black actors and actresses and pressed on to rise to success in an era where she was often unwelcome and treated poorly.

this movie is just perfect.
after I watched it I couldn't even make myself say a word I was so blown away.
it's the kind of movie you just gotta watch, nothing I say is gonna live up to it
well this is just wow...
I mean, it's a Brazilian romeo and juliet.
a wheel of emotions from the beginning to the very end and it reveals a lot about the reality of life in Rio de Janeiro.
I almost cried about 10 times and I don't ever cry watching movies, that's how much it messes with your heart.
10/10
The Pianist (dir. Roman Polanski), 2002
About this movie
this one really impressed me in a good way, considering that there are a lot of movies about this time period and that tell a similar story, it's hard to make it something new, and I think that was achieved.
I think the fact that he's a pianist is not just something that they thought could be his job, but yes a fundamental part of the script and you can feel throughout the movie how his love and consideration for music and the piano intensifies, and it's curious how the character seems to gradually lose his voice, but as that happens the piano is more present.
on the other hand I felt like there still is a movie that can be very predictable, so I think that bothered me a little bit. But in the end is a very well done movie and it's very well written as well.
The Miseducation of Cameron Post (Desiree Akhavan, 2018)
Well, my honest opinion about this movie is that, although is a very well done movie it's something that has been done before a few times, so honestly, I wasn't impressed by it.
I'd say that although it has only 91 mins I think that that's about enough time, but is a really aesthetically pleasing movie, I'll give that.
cinematography doesn't mean fields of sunflowers
I feel like a lot of people believe that good cinematography is a movie that is aesthetically pleasing, and that can be true, but the thing is, good cinematography is capturing the idea of the movie, it has to work with the script and not independently, it's no use a movie that's beautiful but it doesn't go well with the script, or even movies that are more concerned in having beautiful scenes than in having a good story, and we have several examples of that.
Swiss Army Man (2016)
Directors: Dan Kwan & Daniel Scheinert
Cinematographer: Larkin Seiple
honestly, I have a LOT of mixed feelings about this movie.
I've watched, gave a few seconds to sink in and I still can't decide if I've liked it or not, it's an oddly confusing movie.
on one side, I get the jokes and the movie has a lot of very clever moments that were really well made, great photography and the soundtrack really goes together with not only the movie but with all the jokes, it's pretty funny.
now, on the other side, it's an unnecessary disturbing movie, I feel like halfway trough it the directors kind of got lost in the jokes and I felt like it went a little bit too far, to a point it's just gross and I want it desperately to stop lol.
so, good idea, well executed to a point, it could have been done with half of the time.
