"I would say I’m not surprised at all and it’s about time you realised how lucky you truly are to be in my company.” She responded cooly, not even missing a beat and choosing to ignore his ‘sneaky witch thief’ comment. Sneaky and a witch, most certainly, but Morrigan didn’t normally make a habit of stealing. Normally. Sometimes though, the occasion was just called for.

Soon they found themselves entering the tree line, and just as she was ready to announce it was time to return to camp, a twig snapped to their right. Her head spun in the direction, gold eyes alert. Sure enough, there stood three rogues, an Elvhen woman and two human men, dressed in shadowy garb. The two men had bows drawn and pointed at her and Caleb already, the woman holding a dagger. “Oh, well isn’t that just lovely.” She drawled dryly, not even bothering to reach for her staff.

“You’ll be handin’ over all yer’ gold and belongings.” The woman spoke sternly, looking rather smug. Morrigan rolled her eyes and turned to Caleb. “Well you heard her, best hand over that gaudy armour of yours.”

Naturally, she would be deflective. If Caleb had chosen to think just a bit ahead he certainly could have come up with something better to say, though admittedly she was hard to get a rise out of.

"Too true, how daft of a man must I be to only catch this now. However will the gods forgive such an action?”

As he spoke his arms moved, showing his complete and utter sarcasm this was, of course, assuming his tone of voice couldn't portray that alone  His jovial nature covered his internal arguments and strife with ease. Even to his own surprise the smile that spread across his face was entirely believable. It was just then however that the quarrelsome twosome came faced to face with the people that had killed the Darkspawn patrol. Considering their appearance it was rather impressive they had managed to do so.

"Speaking of my armour; are you clinically stupid? underestimating her I understand, but the guy in enough armour to crush stone underfoot? Do you truly trust your aim that much or are you again just dumb enough to think you can best a Grey Warden?"

“Oh is that so? Are you implying that you enjoy hearing me speak then?” Morrigan drawled with a coy smile, continuing her steps through the tall grass, minding her footing lest she trip and give Caleb far too much enjoyment. As much as she secretly enjoyed seeing him happy, laughing at her just simply wouldn’t do.

She couldn’t help but chuckle at his next comment, haunting eyes flicking to the side to look at him as she walked. “You’re learning I see, and yes, I’m certain he is. I do hope he manages to survive without me.” Morrigan could practically see Alistair in front of her, grimacing and being completely obnoxious as always while he pretended to gag at the idea. He was truly annoying, but oh so fun to aggravate.

While Caleb loomed in his intricate armour, Morrigan, as always, cared little about being practical beyond movement. It would have been a waste for her to wear anything so cumbersome. She could keep herself alive and safe just fine with her magic, of course. “It will be getting dark within in the next few hours. I say if we don’t find anything soon, we return to camp before we risk the other members of our merry band come searching for us and we’re stuck saving them from something.”

Caleb chuckled while listening to her prattle on. There was something in her sarcasm that he found some strange and possibly sick enjoyment in it. She did make some sense though, no doubt Alistar would drag Caleb’s poor dog from its slumber and use him to track them down. In truth, Caleb couldn’t blame the man. He had lost a very important person to him; Duncan, and even though they thought differently of The Grey Warden, that didn't mean he couldn't understand his friend's grief and paranoia. Even still if just the two of them came out here the chances of he and Morrigan having to save their asses wasn’t as slim as he would like, and Caleb just couldn't bear the thought of making Alistar owe him...again.

"And what's say I do enjoy hearing the dulcet tones that so gracefully fall through your lips, hmm? What would our "sneaky witch thief" have to say then?"

Sitting down in the chair Caleb couldn’t help but roll his eyes. His hands laid flaccid on the arms of the chair, slumped down against the fur and wood, and he stared at his supposed “helper”. His wounds were superficial at worst, a few nicks that were bleeding profusely but would clot more or less on their own. There was some slight bruising on his jawline as well, but that was hardly new.

“And the second, which happened to be the last.—What do you want, Cullen?”

Caleb crossed his arms and leaned back against the wall, eyeing the man in front of him. He had come quite a fair way from being a blubbering fool trapped in a magic circle begging for the death of all mages.—Then again maybe not. It was hard for him to say, and Morrigan hadn’t mentioned anything in her letters. Whether that was because Cullen truly had changed or his wife didn’t want Caleb knowing about any snide comments lest the Inquisition’s Commander find himself on the receiving end of a first punch himself.

Though he didn’t think to mention it, the blood that was oozing slowly out of him strangely made him feel even better than without the odd give and take of blood sacrifice; Avernus truly knew his work. Closing his eyes he leaned back into a chair whilst sipping from his side flask. What’s done was done.

A rarity was to find Caleb outside his armour, even more so that one should have the fortune to find him smiling. This all was of course besides the fact that he was currently holding a piece of raw meat to his eye. Not usually one for starting fights but since becoming a Warden he had become protective of both his title and his name.

“Not saying I didn’t deserve it. No, far from it. Just saying you should see the other guy, must be using a whole cow.”

Morrigan rolled her eyes, arms folding beneath her chest. “I could have told you that much.” The magic anyway, the rest she would leave up to him. As Caleb examined the darkspawn and voiced his theories, Morrigan turned to face the northern treeline, sighing with exasperation.

“Very well. And you needn’t worry about me, I certainly have no plans on being killed by some shifty-eyed fiend.” Walking with her chin held up, she started North, not bothering to take her staff out for use, not yet anyway. The clearing was quiet, and the trees ahead showed no sign of immediate danger. For the moment, they were safe.

“So, do you think the others are positively lost without us?” She mused sarcastically, a devilish smirk crossing her lips. “I’m sure Alistair is simply dying without me there.”

"If you could have then perhaps you should have. Besides, silence isn't befitting a witch like yourself."

He continued on beside her, noting to himself how far they had gone from camp. No doubt his dog would start to worry, though if Kedar was that worried he would simply find him as he always had.

"Your overconfidence could easily be your downfall, though I bet I'm speaking to an empty void when I say things like that/ I'm sure Alistar misses you dreadfully, like the air has left his very lungs.”

Rolling his neck an audible crack echoed in the small area. It was rather interesting how he looked in his armour, towering over nearly every single person they came across. He appeared like a walking fortress, no small knife could even scuff his armour. Odd then he rarely chose to wear a helmet.

“Well, that is certainly lovely, yes?” Morrigan drawled, her words, as was common, dripping with sarcasm. The tip of her boot was pushed into the side of the darkspawn’s head, turning it over to get a better look. They were truly hideous creatures, both inside and out. Wrinkling her nose, the witch stepped away, moving to stand beside Caleb, her staff back in its proper spot on her back.

“So what do you think killed it, hmm? Perhaps an ally to our little cause, or…” She trailed off, gold eyes moving across the forest line, narrowing slightly. “Perhaps something even deadlier than a few darkspawn. How exciting.” More sarcasm, although Morrigan would have been lying, which wasn’t unlike her, if she said she wasn’t incredibly curious about what exactly had done in the small pack of darkspawn.

“I don't smell fire, nor a sign of frost...unlikely to be a mage then I suspect.”

He crouched by another of the small group’s corpses, taking off large gauntlet before rolling it on to its left side. Caleb began looking it over for any signs of battle. As hideous as they were, man could be worse, himself included in that sentiment.

"No arrow marks; Perhaps a small slit here under the ear, purse cutter by chance? Must be a good one to do away with this many darkspawn and with speed no less. Corpse still fells warm to the touch."

Slipping his glove back on he stood back up and readjusted the sword on his back, heavy and dwarven, made the best of the best in his style, it a contrast in colour to his darkened armour. He maintained them himself. He stepped next to Morrigan and looked ahead down the path.

"I say North. As for friend or foe I can't be certain, so keep your guard up."
