New game project, previous one getting tabled. Gonna keep my existing reblogs as visual inspiration anyway, both for my new project and the one it was for anyway.

.Hack// franchise (shoutout to the new .hack//Z.E.R.O. coming out soon, love that), Hoyoverse games, Epic Seven and Chaos Zero Nightmare, Fate/Grand Order and the rest of the Fate franchise, Stardew Valley, Limbus Company, Earthbound, Uma Musume, BLACK SOULS, Persona 4, and probably more i forgot.

Which is an insane and eclectic selection of inspirations, but these all have bits and bobs of things I like and want or are works that have provoked thoughts of what I want to make.

Implemented an autosave feature using some plugins and adjusted the number of save slots to make it so there's only one save slot that autosaves. Also adjusted how much info the save screen displays with the plugin that controls slots. This should discourage/prevent savescumming so it's more like the typical game in the genre, basically.

Updated webpage to also keep track of plugin credits with links and stuff, and stared at plugins too. Am probably going to make a post on here about my inspirations - not passionate about it to post it all on the website but enough that I kind of want to talk about it.

I worked on the webpage for my game's systems, making custom CSS and writing somewhat detailed information about the state of the game. You can see it here

I also implemented the 15 characters for 2 star rarity in game. Of course, no one has skills and elements are not a function of the system yet, but they are in the actor database and are accessible through the gacha system.

I also updated my internal documentation with more gameplay element ideas at some point.

I did a little more research and finally figured out how to fix the combat not working at all and tweaked some values to get more enjoyable numbers.

I looked at plugins halfheartedly for a little bit.

That's all I managed for today. There might be another couple of breaks in the future.

It's thanksgiving and my family observes at least the tradition of eating a large meal so my time today is slightly constrained. With that in mind, today's post is going to be in a slightly more experimental format.

I noted down the unedited class values for the classes I had not applied stats for

I edited the default Bat enemy to have more reasonable stats for the stat ranges I am working with so I can use it as an adequate test for the combat system

I added a test battle with the new bat

I tested it

"Why the fuck is this bat insanely strong. why can't we hit it."

Did some research into how ex-parameters and sp-parameters and damage flow

Tweak values for the bat and test again. Repeat to basically no success

Got frustrated and gave up and then thanksgiving dinner was done

So yeah um that's today's progress. Yikes.

after some time of no work at all on this project, I worked out and fixed the stat spread of the player character's class and the melee class. I had meant to do all of the classes in this way, but my mental energy has been used up on other, less important things.

I have however gotten used to manipulating the curve and making stats that seem good at least pre-testing. I also have a vague idea how I will do individual character stat variances. I also am documenting the stats work in the same place I am documenting my list of characters.

Another thing I did that I nearly forgot was go back and revise my notes for gameplay mechanic stuff to make sure it was up to date and mark off things I had done already.

I also just remembered I implimented a debug item to test making an item that just adds a flat value to a param. It worked, so I was happy.

Just tinkered with a few stat values for some of the skills and attacks. Did a lot of looking at things unsure how to work with them. Didn't do any testing or get anything else decided.

every game should have a dating mechanic but like not necessarily romantically. i just think i should be allowed to ignore the main plot and take the npcs out to a café or an aquarium or something. even if it doesn't fit the setting. we will invent aquariums.

Work feels like I did basically nothing. I didn't do exactly nothing, just nothing really tangible.

I have been filling in the rest of my cast with more rarities and moved some characters to new rarities. I've gotten the roster up to 15 two-stars, thankfully.

I also did write up some thoughts regarding some gameplay systems that are significantly less required than I should be concerning myself with yet, but I think would improve the longterm project. I also showed off the project to my friends again. Much less glaring issues while showing it off this time. You could argue the hours of game playing I did was research. Surely it could count?

Last night after i'd made my post I showed the game to a friend, found numerous issues in my eventing (mostly misplaced variable calls or text errors) and fixed a bunch of tiny minor things.

Today I have experimented a little with the parameter values and attack formulas - no testing, just messing with how input works for now - not certain the numbers I want my game to involve but I know I want to reduce randomness in combat to a certain extent. I also experimented with a rudimentary prototype for my "skins" system. It works for the most part but is not particularly robust. It will require more refining later.

There's also periodic breaks to look at plugins on itch just like... whenever I feel like it. It's at the very least very elucidating to see what can be done with MV. I've also looked at affinity systems but have been having trouble finding something like an event template that can add affinity (probably by altering a variable) for specifically party members at the end of a battle...

I also made plans for some higher rarity characters, too.

I also played some Collective Unconscious which didn't really contribute but did cut into my dev time today.

Spent most of today inputting 1 star characters into the actor list and doing the basic eventing for summoning 1 star characters and not much else. Also implemented 'shards' for each rarity as items dispensed when you pull a duplicate character, but they don't do anything yet.

Looked at eventing, states, attacks, plugins, etc. but did nothing with it. Also drew up some more concepts for gameplay elements but that is mostly just vague ideas on my internal design documentation.

decided on characters for one star rarities and partially implemented them and their relevant classes and elements, though any actual functionality is non-existent at present. there is one one star rarity character for each class and element combination at present.

Did research into a system to check date and time using the system clock. Found some stuff that I'll probably attempt to implement later when I actually plan to use it. Also just looked at more plugins and stuff and updated my internal documentation stuff, and looked at how the stat values are handled in RPGM MV for plans regarding the battle system in the future.
