"Hades was a faithful husband unlike his stupid brothers and never cheated on Persephone."
Literally the first and last time when he cheated on her with someone:
I think I forgot to mention I am writing a R&J retelling (like an actual book)
I am planning to write a period accurate retelling that focuses more on the so called “secondary” characters, what happens behind the “scenes” of the main play. I have always been fascinated by themes of corruption, manipulation and violence so exploring the hierarchy and political systems of medieval Italy that have shaped many political aspects of today’s world, is something I would want to write about. Sooo what work is one of the most controversial ones nowadays? Yep Romeo and Juliet because what if their tragedy was a product of many things that were absolutely out of their control, instead of something that could’ve been evitable?
(P.S the people in the drawings are Mercutio and Tybalt in the book. Mah gayass couple)

megaminds that look up to hypocritical Hollywood vultures: YAAAAAS Queen say it louder for the people in the back!!!!
@ulises-aithon oh yeah did you hear about this
Oh yeah! Heard it crystalline clear. Homer is not a feminist icon, true because well his times were not the modern times but, yes, it is true that there are a lot more women in his epopeyas than in many of this "feminist retellings" and the likes as OP perfectly put. Moreso, women are most of the active helpers for Odysseus! Most of them are indispensable for the continuation of his nostos, even minor characters such as Ino Leukothea that just decided to aid him because she could as for example Eidothea helping Menelaus in his own nostos from Egypt.
Something I do not understand is "calling out Homeros" for the sole reason that he is not alive nor from our times? Is like trying to call out the people that composed the Vedas, for example, which I do find laughable.
He is misogynistic as most of these women are: weavers, related to the household, etc..., but in regards to that, read Euripides and even him he is more creative with his female characters and audience as for example, Theone and Helen in his playwrite "Helen", these two are the sole carriers of the play, one aiding Helen and Helen being the sole reason of the play, pulling up the strings for creating the ideal circustamnces for her and Menelaus to return back home. And something to comment on is the fact that many of these women are knowers of drugs, of weaving, of strategy and rulership too, they are forced in a patrilineal society, sure, but they hold a lot of power we like it or not. (I'm all in for Helen polypharmalos btw)
And something I do want to add is that even Antikleia, who shows up little she is such a help for Odysseus, she is the one telling him that Penelope is waiting him, that Telemachus is alive and so is Laertes. She's not just the mourning character many reduce her (Jorge i'm pointing at you) but also as helpful as Tiresias as she is the one telling her the inmediate conditions of their household. (Adding the Catalogue of Queens of the Haides because they deserve recognition too!)
To finish I do want to comment on what a sad reality that most people here have not read the Odyssey, not even the two or five rhapsodes they are supossedly basing the film on and what Lupita has shown is the same comptent and cynicism that encompasses Hollywood and by extension, Christopher Nolan, regarding the Ancient Greek Mythos. @most-sane-classicist
I’m lowkey obsessed with the dynamic between Tom’s Tybalt and John’s Mercutio. Even though Tom is about 14 years older than John, their energy just works so well. i genuinely don’t get why people keep comparing it to Shakespeare and saying that’s not canon, it’s a stage adaptation AND DMN it’s literally allowed to interpret the characters differently AND THEY DID IT SO WELL
