Luke: when you change your mind i'll be waiting / cause i'm better than him, just saying
Despite the blazing hot sun and the endless amounts of sunburns and mosquitoes, summer always seemed to work itself out. Your best friend Luke was back home from touring, and you had plenty of time to catch up with him and everything that was going on in your busy lives. There was occasional texting and video calls, but there was nothing like finally getting to see him in person again.
You had been texting him more frequently since he let you know they were back in town, but you had yet to spend some time together. He seemed preoccupied with writing, which you understood, but you decided he needed some more fun, so you found yourself at the door of his house, ringing the bell.
"Oh, (Y/N)! It's so good to see you again!" Liz greeted as she opened the door and leaned into the hug.
"You too Mrs. Hemmings! How've you been?" You asked as she ushered you in.
“I'm great! It's been an empty nest recently, but I've got Lewi back!" She laughed. "Speaking of which, I imagine you've come to see him?"
"Yes! A post-tour reunion." You continued to make small talk.
"Ah, he's up in his room. Been writing since he got off the plane! We couldn't even get him out for dinner last night."
"That's odd. Maybe I can pull him out of there, I'll go say hi! Thanks!" You nodded and headed upstairs and down the hall to his room before knocking.
The sounds of his guitar strumming stopped and a weak 'come in' was uttered. Pushing the door open, you found him sitting on the edge of his bed, his old acoustic resting on his lap. His eyes widened in shock when he caught sight of you, but a smile quickly lit up his whole face. You ran over to him and engulfed him in a hug, having to stand on your toes to even reach him.
"Luke, oh my gosh, I missed you so much!" You took a step back to get a good look at him. His hair was under a beanie, but that same smile and lip ring sat on his face. You recognized the tank top you had given to him and sweatpants hanging loosely on his legs.
"I thought you were my mom for a second." He laughed and motioned for you to sit down on the bed with him. "I was going to tell you to go away."
"If you knew it was me you'd probably still say it." You joked.
"No promises." He smirked.
"I'm gonna break you out of here." You decided.
"Come on, let's go!" You stood up.
"Wait, what do you-" He tried again, but you hushed him and pulled him out of his room and down the stairs.
"We'll be back in an hour or so, don't worry." You laughed, walking out the door and down the street. You continued walking with him down familiar roads until you ended up at a small park across from a school. You looked back to see his reaction, which was confusion at first, but then familiarity.
"This is the park our parents took us to all the time!" He smiled.
"And one of your first gigs." You added proudly.
"I can't believe how far we've gotten." He spoke under his breath.
"Please tell me about your cool tour memories." You begged, always knowing that the strangest things happened while they were on the road.
"Michael dyed his hair a bunch of times, which definitely settled well, we frustrated Ashton quite a bit, and Calum almost flung his bass into the crowd." He summed up.
"Sounds amazing. Wish I could have been there."
"Me too. Now tell me all about what you've been up to."
"Not much, if I'm honest." You shrugged.
"Still dating Brandon or whatever?" He asked with a hint of sass behind his voice.
"Yes, Luke. I still don't understand why you hate him." You sighed.
"He's just a little shit."
"He's perfectly nice and all."
"Yeah, but he's kinda pretentious, and you know he lies to you to seem cooler." He sat down on a bench facing the playground and motioned for you to move next to him.
"That was one time, and I was dumb for believing it."
"That still says a lot about him. Even I'm better than him, and you know it's bad when I can say that."
"Whatever." You rolled your eyes.
"So your mom says you've been a hermit recently." You poked him, laughing a bit. It was his turn to be annoyed now.
"I'm not being a hermit, that's Michael's job." He grinned.
"What are you working on?"
Songs and stuff, we're trying to get another album out this year." He explained.
"Ahh, I understand. I wanna hear it sometime!" "We're not even close to done yet."
"Well you have to start somewhere." You tried to milk him for some more album secrets.
"Maybe some other time (Y/N)." He was becoming increasingly fidgety.
"At least tell me what it's about." You begged, about to give up. He turned to face you and for what had been a long time, you got a good look at his face.
His eyes were just as blue as you remembered them, but they seemed tired after months of being away from home. A small amount of stubble framed his chin, giving him an adorable but still attractive look.
"Would you judge me if I said you?"
