I have lately seen a lot of “some good news” and “radical joy” reposts for people who otherwise are silent and not taking action. This is the 2026 equivalent of a black square.

Especially for white allies and Americans posting this. It’s important to take care of ourselves yes, but when you only promote “good news” and don’t have to face the “bad news” in your day to day, it’s not radical at all. For those of us with privilege, for those of us who sit comfortable in the belly of the imperial beast, we cannot filter out the “bad news.” We must dedicatedly pay attention to what is happening in the world.

Watching news through a screen is far less taxing than being in active war zones and ICE takeovers.

Only promoting joy when so many are increasingly facing hopeless conditions is tone deaf. It is our duty to keep eyes on the news and to reject the censoring of a war the American people do not want. “Some Good News” will not be censored as heavily as violence against trans people and true reporting on how we are faring in our illegal war.

it wild to me that there are people out there who aren't interested in history

wdym you don't think about the fact that people, no matter the place, time, or social status, are fundamentally no different from you. that they loved the same as you, enjoyed the same things you did, dreamed about a better life the same way you did. that despite how seemingly detached you are from these people, in time, place, and culture, the things you do and what u are is so undeniably human that it transcends time and space

We owe caring to each other—alive at the same moment on the Earth and as people whose lives are unimaginably intertwined under forces we did not choose. So we owe caring to every life and action that has allowed us to our current state of being.

Let's connect some dots here

The Trump administration kidnaps and sends hundreds of people to a prison camp in El Salvador with no due process (meaning they never have to prove these people committed whatever offence the Admin claims)

The Administration sets the precedent that anyone, up to green card holder and naturalized citizens, will be subject to this for practicing free speech in a way the Administration doesn't like

The Administration puts out two Executive Orders, one which says they believe trans people and parents of trans children are all sexual offenders and another that anyone who criticizes Israel is a terrorist

The President puts out a statement, in public, saying he wants to find ways to send US citizens to those foreign prison camps

The Administration directly defies 2 different SCOTUS decisions that say anyone who is deported must get due process and (this one a unanimous decision) they must return a wrongfully deported man

The US President now tells the President of El Salvador, again in public, that they will need to expand their facilities because he wants to start sending "homegrown criminals" to El Salvador very soon

We aren't even in boiling the frog territory any more, we're in a flash frier.

Like I hate sounding like a fucking tinfoil hat nutjob, but it's clear as day, right? He's saying exactly what he wants to do. And no one is doing anything about it. They're just saying "hey that's illegal!" and then letting it happen anyway.

Also it will continue to be my stance that using something that occurred outside the US as the primary reference really prevents us from properly reckoning with the US's history. From the detention of foreign nationals in Guantanamo Bay to the internment of Japanese Americans to the numerous laws, policies, and programs that have stripped rights from and limited immigration of various races and ethnic groups, the US has centuries of history to use to understand why we have gotten to where we are.

Trump is as much a legacy of McCarthyism and Jim Crow (he was 18 when the Civil Rights Act was passed) as is of Stalin and Hitler.
