An Infographic Of Useful Tips For All Types Of Learners
You don't know why you're studying anymore?
Youāre studying because you want to get a good grade, youāre studying because you want to show that youāre capable, youāre studying because you want to go to your favorite university, youāre studying because you want to be a doctor, a judge, an engineer, an artist, whatever you dream of. Youāre studying because you wanna do what you love. Youāre studying what you hate because you want to do amazing things one day. Youāre studying because you have a goal. Youāre conflicted because you care. Youāre procrastinating because you think you wonāt be good enough, so why even try? But let me tell you, if you keep lying down and just thinking about your ambitions, they will never come true. You gotta work for it. It wonāt be easy, but it will be worth it. I promise you it will be worth it. And donāt think, not even for a second, that you canāt do it. Donāt make excuses. You CAN and WILL do it. Youāre studying because it will help you do it.
Realistic Study Moods
the āi accomplished somethingā mood: you decided to be productive that day but at night you realise you havenāt accomplished a single thing from your to-do-list. stressed you get yourself a cup off coffee and sit next to your desk really unmotivated and exhausted. half an hour later youāve solved one math problem. you smile, you have done something.
the āiām so fucking motivatedā mood: early morning. you get out of bed right after the alarm goes off. well-rested you brew yourself a cup of tea.you write your to-do-list. after that you take a seat in your bed and start reading trough the textbook of your fave subject.Ā āiāll succeed todayā you think and take a sip of your tea.
theĀ āoh iām so gonna prove you wrongā mood: āyou canāt do itā, they say. determined you start working early. you read, you write notes, you revise, you discuss, you watch videos. on the test day you walk in with confident, take your test & fully ace it. proudly you turn your back to those bastards.
theĀ āwhy do i not understand thisā mood: papers scattered everywhere, several coffee mugs on your desk. youāve been doing that same problem the whole day and still canāt solve it. youāve looked trough the theory, asked your friends & even your teacher. frustrated you pick up your phone and hope someone else has asked the same question on google.
theĀ āomg i get itā mood: youāve been reading the same theory over and over again, youāve watched several videos on the topic and googled everything about it. still, you canāt get the hang of it. frustrated you put your book down. later that day you pick up it again and start reading it. slowly but surely you realise thatĀ āhey i understand this! it isnāt that hard after allā. excited you read through rest of the theory.
and then you have those days when you keep switching between āomg i get itā and āwhy do i not understand thisā where one moment youāre a genius and the next you hit rock bottom and look up other alternatives to college but then youāre suddenly back to being the king of the world
DEAR RESEARCHERS OF TUMBLR
You know whatās awesome?Ā Research.Ā You know whatās not awesome?Ā Not being able to get access to research because itās stuck behind a paywall and you donāt belong to an institution/your institution doesnāt subscribe to that particular journal.
FEAR NOT.
Here is a list of free, open access materials on a variety of subjects.Ā Feel free to add if you like!
GO FORTH AND LEARN SHIT, MY FRIENDS.
Directory of Open Access Journals- A compendium of over 9000 journals from 133 countries, multilingual and multidisciplinary.
Directory of Open Access Books- Like the above, but for ebooks.Ā Also multidisciplinary.
Ubiquity Press- Journals covering archaeology, comics scholarship, museum studies, psychology, history, international development, and more.Ā Also publishes open access ebooks on a wide variety of subjects.
Europeana-Ā Digital library about the history and culture of Europe.
Digital Public Library of America- American history, culture, economics, SO MUCH AMERICA.
Internet Archive- In addition to books, they have music and videos, too.Ā Free!Ā And legal!Ā They also have the Wayback Machine, which lets you see webpages as they looked at a particular time.
College and Research Libraries- Library science and information studies.Ā Because thatās what I do.
Library of Congress Digital Collections- American history and culture, historic newspapers, sound recordings, photographs, and a ton of other neat stuff.
LSE Digital Library- London history, womenās history.
Wiley Open Access- Science things!Ā Neurology, medicine, chemistry, ecology, engineering, food science, biology, psychology, veterinary medicine.
SpringerOpen-Ā Mainly STEM journals, looooong list.
Elsevier Open Access-Ā Elsevierās kind of the devil but you might as well take advantage of this.Ā Mainly STEM, also a linguistics journal and a medical journal in Spanish.
Also, remember ā there is a wide world of researchers out there, most of whom donāt give two figs about paywalls. Let people know what youāre having trouble accessing, and youād be surprised how quickly a copy will find its way to your inbox. And if you do belong to an institution with a library, check out their interlibrary loan system, which is a more official way of getting things from behind a paywall at no cost to you.
get started!Ā x.
