“I had an easy pregnancy.” “I never had any nausea.” “Pregnancy was a breeze.” Perhaps they’re telling the truth, but I found my attention drifting, my fingers Google searching, my eyes skimming links. I wanted the gory details; I wanted to read all about the strange, random, disgusting, or even painful symptoms people have experienced during their pregnancy. Not to fill myself with unnecessary dread, but after reading endless blogs of happy, joyful pregnancies, I found myself needing something more. And oh, did I find more - in blogger Angela Lanter’s Hello Bump podcast.
Angela, along with her husband, actor Matt Lanter, are sharing their experiences week by week as they navigate their first pregnancy. Speaking without filters, their raw honesty is refreshing. And when I say raw, I mean Matt squeezing Angela’s clitoral cyst raw. Nothing is off-limits as Angela details her weekly trials, in gripping, leg-crossing, oozing detail, with Matt always at her side, and their humor and banter despite it all makes for a truly honest listening experience.
Cysts, nausea, bathroom issues, weight loss, fatigue, gas – oh, so much gas –and a mouthful of nickels. Pregnancy is making sure Angela experiences it all, and while it hasn’t been easy on her so far, she still finds ways to laugh her way through every week, and it’s because of this positivity that I’ve found myself enraptured with Hello Bump.
 I’m invested.
Episode 9/Week 14 entertained with the Lanters’ teasing banter, peppered with their recent air travel and massage experiences. It was near the end where a twist was unexpectedly thrown in by Angela. They know their baby’s gender.
But they’re not telling, not yet.
Like myself over the past 9 episodes, 14 weeks, listeners have found themselves wrapped up in Angela’s pregnancy, and wondering about Baby Lanter’s gender. Episode 9 left us dangling, hanging off that baby gender cliff, breaths held…
Will Episode 10 pull us back again? So invested am I that you better believe I’ll be listening to find out.
