David Kronenberg Sings from the Heart
Local musician Dave Kronenberg played at Pete's Candy Store this past Monday night. His music is full of light and unpretentious life messages. He delivers his sound and music in an authentic and genuine way that's rare in the music industry today. The man truly knows how to put the music in his body and it's so clear he sings from the heart. Folk music is lucky to have such a natural artist to the genre. "Swollen Pride" and "Don't give up on that thing" were very organic song selections to Pete's intimate music setting.

Let the Artist Evolve
At Close Encounters Brooklyn we have heard quite a few tunes and sounds along the way at this point in our short life. I grew up a very big Nine Inch Nails fan and their new album, Hesitation Marks, teaches us something about artistic evolution. As a fan, I feel I can source the approach and progression NIN took in this album. Did it take me a few listens? Yes, and a couple of live shows too. As a fan, I have to get out of the way so that the creative process of the artist you support can take place. Give the artists some room. What's all the expectation for? The fan is part of the experience and we, the audience, pay part the bills, but artists must reserve artistic license too. My principle: good for you, how are you liking it? We've seen bands play more than once with us at Close Encounters with new material and their skill improves and there is evolution in the art form. Look, if as a fan or casual listener we refuse to see the artist evolve in his sound and form then, in my opinion, we have some growing up and fan soul searching to do. Don't you think the artist must come to terms musically and artistically with himself first? The artist is taking a risk with us the fans and I'm sure their conscious of that. Plus, the function of music should reside on a few minimalist principles because shit is too widespread today- but no need to get into that. It's okay, I don't have to like every song. But can we just admire, in some way, the change. Without the means of change artists won't preserve themselves. Let the artist do what they think is best for their brand and band. Save the "sell-out" comment or over analytical listening ears and tap your foot. Peace, H Cross
What an amazing night we had yesterday! Legion was packed to the max to see Jodie and the Normals, The Bloody French, Deja Carr and Honeyfitz.
Huge thanks to everyone that came out to celebrate 1 year of Close Encounters. And special thanks to all the artist who made the night so special. Thanks to Legion, as always, for being a great place to rock out.

Before Bad Brains, the Sex Pistols or even the Ramones, there was a band called Death. Punk before punk existed, three teenage brothers from Detroit in the early '70s formed a band with the hopes of getting signed. Their story is one of artists staying so true to themselves in the face of pressure from the recording industry that their music was never released. It took decades, loss of a leader, and a network of hard core record collectors to finally get this album out to the public.
