Hello! I’m Cas and welcome to my blog! I joined studyblr a year or two ago and dipped for a bit but I'm back now to (hopefully) use this blog to hold myself accountable for the semester!

Academic Goals:

- Get more involved in major-related extracurriculars/projects!!! - Turn in assignments ON TIME - Actually study regularly instead of just cramming before tests - Attend more office hours than I did last semester - Keep my notes and assignments organized for longer than the first 2 weeks of the semester

Personal Goals:

- Work out at least twice a week - Replacing doomscrolling habit with something constructive (reading, hobbies) or at least relaxing (games, socializing) - Eat healthier and on a regular schedule - SLEEP EARLIER, or at the very least before 12am - Consistently update this blog

okay I think this introduction post has gone on for long enough, thank you for reading this far! I’m going to treat this blog as a diary or journal of sorts mainly focused on academics, but will probably end up posting about my life in general every now and then. Guess who’s back in time for finals week! Just took my first one for Signals & Systems today and while it could have went a lot better, I’m just happy that it’s over and I’ll probably pass the overall class.

Pic is of my power engineering lab final project, where we had to design a basic 3-phase power system from scratch & test it on simulink. I’m pretty proud of it, even if it does crash my laptop when I try to measure any values. Also remembered the Forest app exists mid-last-month, so here is half of my study time for April.

Watch me fail to study for an hour in this timelapse taken literally right now! It may look productive, but I spent that whole hour failing to absorb info that ended up not even being on the study guide for the controls midterm tomorrow, which pissed me off so badly I had to get up right now and take a food break before I snapped at someone for no reason.

I feel like this is one of the most annoying parts of ADHD that no one really mentions because it doesn’t fit the general perception of ADHD— overstimulation from cognitive/task overload leading to insane frustration seemingly out of nowhere.

For me personally, this ends up presenting itself as extreme responses to sensory stimuli and overreactions to my tasks being interrupted (I almost started yelling in the beginning when the pen I was writing with got ink on my fingers LMAO).

Normally my solution would be to take a break, but unfortunately I don’t have enough time with my midterm tomorrow, so a shit load of sugar/carbs/caffeine is going to have to do for now. Taking the time rationalize my frustration and talk about it here has surprisingly helped a lot too! I have to get back to work though, so long rant over ig

Disappeared for a month because it took a little longer to get back in the groove of routine after spring break than I expected… my bad.

Posting this on a break from studying for my signals exam tomorrow, so I shouldn’t yap too much. Expect another cram post later this week because I have an exam for control systems on Friday. I hope I get the results from last month’s exam before then :P

Two big goofs last week: 1) got too confident in my signals midterm and ended up bombing it, and 2) thought my controls midterm was Friday the 13th when it was actually Friday the 20th.

Funnily enough the extra week did not help (thanks ADHD!) so here I am again, cramming the day before.

I know this is studyblr and we’re supposed to be optimistic and love learning but DAMN I would be lying if I said anything less than I hate this class with my whole being. Fought tooth and nail to register for it but PLEASE someone free me from control systems.

May or may not have skipped an unbearably boring lecture just to go to thesis lab 🤭 Work went smoothly today and somehow I was feeling a little less exhausted and defeated than yesterday, although I'm still not thinking about the future of this project optimistically ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But there's no use dwelling on it right now. I have one last class of the day ahead of me and then I'm off to enjoy the (hopefully sunny) weekend!

Pre-Exam Review

I couldn't sleep much last night, I struggle with allowing myself to sleep when tasks need to be completed -> which causes me to get in a cycle of 'too exhausted to work' but 'too fearful of failure to fall asleep'.

I was in lab/lecture from 8:15 am - 5 pm today and it was hard for me to focus; I really want to start sleeping better.

Anyways, we are finishing off the week with our second Genetics exam.

I hadn't delt with Punnett squares since high school before this course, so seeing them again so often feels a little nostalgic. I always loved the pattern and number involvement in solving them, it is very satisfying.

after procrastinating for a bit, i finally started writing the "design and development" chapter of my thesis. i should have done it earlier :') but starting is always the worst part for me, so hopefully it will go well from here!

Opened up my old microelectronics slides for a quick refresher on amps before I start messing around with guitar pedals. I have 2 midterms this week, one for signals on Wednesday and another for control systems on Friday, so hopefully those go well…

Power lab has been one of the most fun labs I’ve taken so far, which is strange considering how much I hated the lecture. Took a photo last lab to remember the setup for a circuit with the biggest inductor I’ve ever seen. The photo doesn’t really do it justice, that thing was bigger than my hand and weighed like 10lbs 😵‍💫

Getting my lab report for my power class done before heading to my signals class in a bit. Not too worried about either class surprisingly, actually just aced a signals quiz that I was not confident in at all. It’s kind of funny how the 2 classes I was dreading the most ended up being my best classes so far :]

Had a couple of free hours before my controls lecture tonight, so I decided to finish up a project I’ve been working on for a couple days. Nothing too crazy, just converting a wireless mouse from usb-a to usb-c so I can (hypothetically) emulate the wii games that I (hypothetically) have saved on a flash drive on my laptop that only has 1 usb-a port.

I have a quiz in said controls lecture later that I keep putting off studying for, so I’m sure this counts as some form of productive procrastination. I should probably go study now…

Here’s a timelapse of me finishing up the math for last week’s power engineering lab to prep for the one I have tonight.

The math for it was pretty simple, for my EE majors out there we’re covering the basics of 3-phase balanced and unbalanced circuits with purely resistive loads, but the actual implementation was pretty scary.

At one point my partner and I accidentally shorted the wattmeter when we were working with 120V and it started buzzing like it was going to blow up. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen again tonight 😵‍💫

Early Morning Study, Early Morning Exam

It's hard to break out of the 'to succeed, I must stay awake all night' mindset. Even with multiple location changes and cold-air refreshers outside -> I found myself dozing off mid-study many times.

The learning I achieved was disproportionate to the time and sleep I gave up. If I had slept for even 6 hours, I would have gotten through my studies much faster. I'll keep reminding myself of this until the sentimant sticks.

Anyways, get your rest.

i don't have many "studyblr pictures" to share lately. most of my work and thesis progress is happening in google docs, which is not very aesthetic, and i don't want to be doxxing myself or my students lol

i've been analyzing data for my thesis. i haven't worked much with quantitative data before, so i didn't know that so much of it is just tedious work of formatting and copy-pasting. it might just be a skill issue on my end though.
