i’m starting to hate the frequency of pinterest as a google result more than i hate pinterest itself. listen, google, googly-mate, pinterest isn’t a fuckign source. I want the sites those pictures came from because those are the ones with information such as dates, which is the entire point of the thing I am googling.
Damn right. How the hell am I supposed to find tutorials on how to do wire work or bead weaving when the first howevermany pages of Google results are some idiot’s cluster of Pinterest collections of those tutorials?
SOMEONE ELSE HATES PINTEREST AS MUCH AS I DO
not only does it fuck with sourcing images, but you can’t even SEE the images unless you have a ~pinterest account~ which I have zero interest in acquiring; it does this so completely adorable coy little thing where it shows you half the page and then when you scroll down it goes *complicated tiresome flower emoji face* JOIN PINTEREST 2 SEE MORE! *complicated tiresome flower emoji face* and my systolic reading spikes.
and google lists individual pinterest pages as separate results, so if a picture is popular, there can be HUNDREDS of pinterest listings before you find anything you could possibly trace back to a source.
listen, all my art bros who are mad about people not sourcing art, i dig that, i agree that sourcing is important, but maybe stop saying reverse image search is easy or ‘30 seconds’ or whatever. sometimes it’s just straight up impossible because fucking pinterest ruins everything.
SUPER EASY WAY TO AVOID PINTEREST: type your query and then -pinterest
7 of the first 12 results are from pinterest
zero items from pinterest not a single one I’m free
Reblog to save a set of nerves.
Yes! Putting the “-” in front of a word automatically omits any result with that word! The word can also be a specific website!
LET IT BE KNOWN
last night in lichen class we were doing review and one of the students came up to me with a lichen and was like ‘so this is x growth form?’. i looked at it. ‘nah this is y growth form, like it’s really going hog wild there like look at that thallus’. ‘no but look *gesturing down lichen* you can see it grew down the rock like this hugging the substrate so it would be x growth form??’.
i looked closer. sure enough, the Lad was growing down the rock hugging the substrate. ‘no but wait,’ i said, ‘ive seen ones with y growth form growing like that in the wild, it’s just when they’re chilling on a downwards slope. like maybe this ones just kinda big’. she took out her review sheet where she had the answers that my professor had read aloud, and showed me that he had told the class that it was x growth form. i checked my teaching assistant answer sheet and saw that on there, the same professor had marked that it was y growth form.
confused, with the lichen between us, we called my professor over and explained the situation. ‘huh. well, lets see what The Big Official Lichen Textbook has to say about it’, he said. we stood with baited breath as he heaved the 5 pound tome down on the lab table and flipped to the page regarding the Lad in question.
‘its both probably idk’ said the Big Official Lichen Textbook

“my battery is low and it’s getting dark” is so hauntingly human, so crushingly lonely. I can’t articulate the deep, profound ache that sentence evokes. It’s acceptance and defeat and terror and sadness all at once, all from one tiny machine we asked to explore the stars for us.
“My battery is low and it is getting dark” weren’t Oppy’s literal last words, her last message to earth was a readout of her battery power and light sensor readings, something that I think is nonetheless sad. But what I find astounding is we’ve translated that last message into language that is so poetic and humane, and IMO that speaks powerfully of the lengths that human empathy can reach. I really think that says something beautiful, and I need to go hug my Roomba.
The fact that John Mulaney is older than Bo Burnham but younger than Andy Samberg really fucks with my concept of time not gonna lie
Hm. I Don’t like this.
