I can’t help but feel as though Bella’s “love” for Jacob isn’t actually romantic at all, she just feels obligated to return his affection because he was there for her for so long. During Eclipse, Bella confesses that she loves Jacob too, but only after he forces her to kiss him and threatens to kill himself. She realizes that she loves him only after he has been consistently pumping the idea into her brain. And when she comes to the realization that she loves him back, it’s because she realizes that his love being mirrored would make him happy. She doesn’t feel romantically towards him, she just feels obligated too.
