Archie loves the sea.

The museum told him that all life had come from it. While his classmates were still divided over it, Archie made sense of it almost immediately. Of course people came from the sea. Why else would it feel so much like home? 

Shifting waves rocked him to sleep as a baby and guided the surfboard under his feet. By day, it was a respite from the scorching heat of summer. At night, Chinchou and Staryu lit the pathways along his seaside neighborhood enough to walk through the darkness without fear. Riding aboard a ship was as natural as breathing. And--hadn’t someone told him once that everyone was born with a little bit of swimming knowledge? Couldn’t be a coincidence.

“--Ow!”

Something crunches under his bare foot and he stumbles back. A partially smashed cola can is buried in the wet sand. Archie huffs.

“What kinda idiot leaves somethin’ like tha’ here…” he mumbles, reaching out to lift said can.

It’s surprisingly heavy. No doubt full of wet sand. He makes a face, walks into the sea up to his ankles, and dips the can into the water. The tiny grains filter out from the tiny opening down to the seafloor beneath his feet…

i know this is the latest of like, 3 pieces about sky tower i’ve made but something about that dungeon is just so cool. the idea of climbing into the clouds miles above the ground was terrifying to me as a kid
