Not gonna lie this makes me a bit irritated. Here's the real version of this photo:
Instead of a cutesie reference to film censorship it was an explicit statement of defiance of Maryland's criminalization gay sex, which was not repealed until 2002. This wasn't a guy saying "Oh they can't put what I do in the movies according to a completely voluntary industry code" he was saying "The State of Maryland wants to put me in jail for being gay and having gay sex."
It wasn't a guy being cheeky about sex in an ambiguous, cute way. It was a man stating, in no uncertain terms, that a whole state of the United States considered him a criminal for being homosexual.

Spin the wheel. That's who's trying to kill you.
Spin the wheel again. That’s who’s trying to protect you.
(If you have zero idea about a name you got, spin until you see someone you recognize.)
Are you safe?
Absolutely not. I'm dead. 100% dead.
I might stay alive, but it'll be a really close thing.
I'll take some hits, for certain, but I should be okay in the end.
A few attacks might get through, but nothing concerning.
The attacker might be able to get in one lucky hit. If that.
I am the opposite of worried. I'm 100% safe.
…Look. I've tried picturing this. But I honestly don't know how to answer.
(I've run this poll twice before, expanding it significantly for the second run. With about a year passed since that second run, I thought it was time to add another couple hundred names to the list and have another go.)
I gave up because this is what's trying to kill me
because some folks were curious, here's what my phone's keyboard looks like and how I type on it.
I wasn't expecting this to go anywhere but the keyboard is 8vim! it's not perfect, it notably can't do emojis and obviously typing is gonna be slower than proficient two thumb typing, but for my clumsy self this is largely competing with swipe typing, and I'll always take the speed hit to not deal with autosuggest
this post is awesome because it gets everyone in the world thinking they're the funniest people on the planet into my notifications to be gigantic assholes about the thing I use as an accessibility tool. and yet I can't lock it. because its spreading awareness about an accessibility tool and has already gotten several people to give it a shot and install it. so in unrelated news I think I'm going to start killing people
[Video Description: OP showing how she uses the keyboard on her phone whilst writing the original post. The keyboard is altered so that there is a circle at the centre with four spokes arranged diagonally across the screen originating from the circle. Along the spokes are the letters of the alphabet and various forms of punctuation. OP drags her finger across the keyboard to each individual letter, the path taken lighting up in pink. /End Description]

it’s actually wild how terrified of the general public most usamericans are. like you don’t realize it if you’re someone who mostly walks and takes transit and spends a lot of time in populous public spaces but then you talk to one of the thousands of people that seemingly never set foot in any public space besides a parking garage or a starbucks and you suddenly understand why it’s so easy for fascist rhetoric about the dangerous alien to take root. this country’s median voter pretty much never interacts with strangers who aren’t their coworkers or people they met on dating apps
saw a post on instagram that was literally someone citing statistics saying public transit is one of the safest travel options out there and the comments were literally just “ummmmm op this is so ableist and misogynistic of you :) don’t you know the average public transit user is a dangerous violent criminal who wants to set you on fire :)))”
it must be so terrifying and sad to go through life convinced if you set foot outside your car in public or interact with people outside your nuclear family you’ll instantly be raped and robbed by the Evil Poors no wonder so many of these people are reactionary tar pits
Eternally relevant read is True Crime is Rotting Our Brains by Emma Berquist, a woman who actually experienced a (rare!) stranger-attack while just walking outside, and thinks that people who panic about this shit need to chill the fuck ouuuuuutt and also recognize how much they're using it to launder their bigotries
Edit: I've attempted to add this link at least three times and Tumblr is being stubborn, so let me try posting it on its own:

not just true crime but the news is in on it too, especially local and right wing but not exclusively.
Even outside of the news and true crime, people who live in the "nice" parts of a city constantly talk like this. In part because of the news but it's also an idea passed down from suburban family to suburban family. To keep them scared of Black people and poor people.
Constantly people talk about my city like it's a crime infested drug haven (god I fucking wish drugs were as easy to find here as people make it out to be) especially the people who live in the richer areas. People are terrified of the downtown area and the public transit because of this. I'm constantly being warned about going downtown at night or going ANYWHERE in this place alone. And yet. Nothing! My house got broken into once as a kid. ONCE. but everyone's acting like if you turn down one alleyway your life or your possessions will be taken from you.
And this is how they all talked BEFORE the true crime boom. In Canada. True crime just infected an already festering wound.
