âAll right you lot of gorgeous geniuses you,â Donna beamed at the staff assembled in the break room. âCoal Hill is putting on their first theatrical production in years and I need some volunteers to help out,â she announced.
âBehind the scenes stuff mostly⊠costumes, stage manager, sets, lighting, special effects, transportation, food, paint crew, make-up⊠You name it, we need help with it,â she admitted with a little smile.
She glanced over at Clara, I have a few people in mind for various positions, but I donât want to dictate anything to anyone, but maybe someone who is extremely organised and doesnât mind a lot of responsibility wouldnât mind volunteering to be stage manager and perhaps starting a sign up sheetâŠ? Well, I would be quite appreciative.â
Donna paused for a moment, "Oh, and did I mention? First round on me at the local after we survive our first rehearsal?â

Oh, Lord, here it was. Sheâd mention the school production, but heâd begun to think it would never happen. Heâd done them over the years, of course, and heâd been heâd done well. But he never believed it and the prospect always formed an enormous lump right in his throat. Still, this was Donna. Sheâd been awfully good to him since he arrived at Coal Hill.. and there were those legs of hers. Stop that, he told himself. Sheâs your mate, and besides sheâs taken.. isnât she?
So Danny slowly, ever so slowly held up his hand to volunteer. It was hard to escape feeling as though he were going to regret this. But ah, well. Fortune favors the bold, yeah?
