Main points:

Keep nails manicured and clean at all times.  That doesn’t mean you have to go out and get huge tacky acrylics every other week.  In fact, don’t.  Keep them shaped nicely, clean, buffed, and put on a clear coat or coat of neutral on in between manicures. 

Invest in high-quality fabrics in neutral colors.  You can add your colors with seasonal accessories from cheaper stores like H&M, etc.

Iron or steam your clothing.  

Wear heels.  Classy ones.  Pointed-toe, not too chunky.

Matte red lipstick = day to night transition, or instantly makes you look put together no matter what you’re wearing.  

If you can’t afford brand name items, customize your cheap ones.  Buy some nice buttons and replace the cheap plastic ones on your coat, etc.

If you buy designer, buy the classics.  Don’t buy the Fendi owl bag that will go out of fashion in a year; buy the Chanel chain clutch.  Buy used or shop the sample sales.

Don’t just stack up labels on yourself- that’s tacky.

Buy a season ahead/behind.

If you have to think twice about an item, don’t buy it.  

When it comes down to it, your confidence is what makes you look expensive.

INVEST IN GOOD UNDERWEAR.  I am soooo sick of seeing my ladies wearing little dresses that show off every little lump and bump and panty line and stocking seam.  We ALL have lumps and bumps and cellulite but when you wear a cheap knit that’s tight, it just looks trashy.  I shouldn’t be able to see your bellybutton shape through your fabric.  With a good pair of spankx or other shapewear, though, you can take a $20 dress from Forever 21 and make it fit like a $500 dress.  Buy good stockings, buy good underwear.  Buy old lady shapewear.  Wear slips under sheer skirts (unless they’re supposed to be sheer, obviously).  Fabric should lie smoothly across your body, and shapewear makes that happen no matter what size you are.  

Example:

Two super thin, super in-shape, gorgeous celebrity ladies, but they both look cheap, and their dresses look cheap.  I can see their belly button and panty lines.  In the top example, her dress just doesn’t even fit properly in the first place.  It doesn’t accentuate her curves and rides up instead. NO.

Instead, here we have two plus-size girls that look put together and classy.  The fabric of their dresses lies smoothy against their curves.  It SHOWS OFF their curves. They’re wearing the right shapewear underneath:

Also, fashion tape.  Buy some and use it.  Your clothing shouldn’t gap at the buttons or at your arm pits.  If you’re wearing something with a deep V, unless you have breast augmentation that keeps them up and perky, tape your damn boobs up.  Yes, we all have saggy boobs, this is reality.  Tape them.

Help!
