Researchers have managed to turn a spinach leaf into working heart tissue and are on the way to solving the problem of recreating the tiny, branching networks of blood vessels in human tissue.
Until now, scientists have unsuccessfully tried to use 3D printing to recreate these intricate networks.
Now, with this breakthrough, it seems turning plants with their delicate veins into human tissue could be the key to delivering via a vascular system into the new tissue.
Scientists have managed in the past to create small-scale artificial samples of human tissue, but they have struggled to create it on a large scale, which is what would be needed to treat injury.
Researchers have suggested that eventually this technique could be used to grow layers of healthy heart muscle to treat patients who have suffered a heart attack.
In order to create the artificial heart, the scientists stripped the plant cells from the spinach leaves, sending fluids and microbeads similar to human blood cells through the spinach vessels and then ‘seeded’ the human cells which are used to line blood vessels into it.
Okay yesterday I posted an article about a miracle procedure for growing human tissue using pigs which is going to save countless lives and allow us to grow organs with our own DNA. Magic. Finally a free afternoon to study! (Yes this is H2 physics) Look at just how thick my file is! Only 5 subjects but the pace that the lectures are going at is crazy. They usually spend so much time at the beginning redundant parts and rush through the hard parts :( Sighs :( Cheers to 2 years of self studying. Oh and I’ll be attending my 1st MUN (Model United Nation) in 2 weeks!!!! I’m so nervoussss!

Journal Series feat. my ootd. Last night was a lot of music, feelings, and rambling, as per usual. Being a teenager is a special time because you’re just figuring out who you are, who you want to be… and journaling is that opportunity you get to be absolutely honest with yourself with no judgment. Sometimes I don’t even know what I’m saying. I just listen to some music and the words flow right out of me. Moments like this are ones that I’m thankful for. I hope that Adult Me will look back on all of these pages one day and laugh because, I guess it wasn’t as bad as I thought after all.
