Once the card was accepted, Alastor abruptly snapped out of his bow, slender frame visibly thrumming like a tuning fork that had been struck. At hearing the agreement, not the least bit perturbed with how forced it was; Alastor eagerly praised the other demon.
“Excellent! Glad to see we’re on the same page!” said as his wicked grin receded to a more modest baring of teeth, one that didn’t hinder his ability to speak. He took in a deep breath though, the resulting crackling noise fluctuated as Alastor issued instructions from a dull hum to nearly taking over his own volume.
“Check in is at noon tomorrow. You’ll meet Husker at the front desk. He’s our bartender slash concierge for the time being. Feel free to bother him anytime, he loves to help.” The way he lingered on help might leave room for doubt as to how accommodating their desk clerk might be.
“And of course our hostess will want to shake your hand, be prepared. She might not look it, but Charlie is one spunky gal with a hell of a grip.”
Not that Alastor would know for certain, she had rejected his handshake after all. As far as assumptions go though, he figured that one was harmless if it proved false.
“Nifty will see to fixing your room up to your liking and see to any luggage you might have, though anything taller than about…hmmm…” his right hand lowered, near ground level, “this much, you might have to help her lift.”
Keeping with his motor-mouth momentum, Alastor went on,”There’s is another tenant. Supposedly he’s infamous in certain circles. He’s a very amiable fellow though so I doubt you’ll run into any trouble. And if you do, well given what I was told of his reputation, you might not mind it so much, but I can’t speak for him nor do I want to hear you harassing him.” No word on Angel’s profession or even speculation as to what kind of trouble the spider demon might invite.
It felt like he was forgetting someone. Ah, probably wasn’t important.
“Oh, one more minor detail” the space he had been gradually putting between himself and the axolotl demon was abruptly reduced to zero as Alastor lunged forward, his right arm going around the other demon’s neck in a jovial headlock.
“What are your thoughts on musicals? I hope you love them because our hostess loves to sing, so expect to be pulled into no fewer than three song and dances before your stay is complete.”
Wow this guy talked a lot. At least he was understandable, although Cognac almost found the absolute hurricane of information a bit hard to keep up with. At least his smile went back down to how it was before. The axolotl demon didn’t know how he could deal with having to keep staring at that terrifying display.
Even if it was a bit fast, he tried to keep a mental note of everything he was being told. Lord knows what would happen if he didn’t. And yes, at the certain way the Radio Demon described this ‘Husker’ fellow, Cognac made another mental note to not ask said demon for any form of assistance.
The thought of meeting the princess was a bit weird to him. He wasn’t scared or even nervous, but the idea of meeting royalty was strange. Well he never would have had this chance back in Baton Rouge. He nodded at what he was told. It did make sense. After all, she was the daughter of the literal Devil.
Well, he’d have to carry his own luggage it seemed, but he didn’t own much anyway. Niffty must be... really short or really weak (or both). It was kind of sad, actually. Hearing about the other tenant made Cognac raise an eyebrow though. Who could it be? There were a number of demons that could possibly be ‘infamous’.
“Wouldn’t dream of it.” he decided on replying. And it was true, Cognac wasn’t really the type to ‘harass’ people. He normally kept to himself outside of work. ...It just occurred to him how strange it would be to be around others who weren’t coworkers or customers. The thought made him uneasy and he stopped himself before he could grimace.
And then he was asked about... musicals? But not before being headlocked by one of the most feared demons in all nine circles. His muscles somehow grew even more tense and he felt like he was about to pass out. Holy shit. If he gave the wrong answer he was definitely going to get his neck snapped. Cognac could barely process the weirdness of what he was just told.
“Uhhh.. musicals are great.” he found himself stammering once again. “I ain’t done no singing or dancing since I was alive though.” a warning that he was probably awful was for the best, right? Even in life his singing was described as painfully average. The only time he’d ever actually danced was in high school too.
What was he getting himself into by agreeing to all this? Cognac couldn’t help but rethink all his life choices that somehow led up to this moment. In the end he found that he probably deserved it.
( cognac may technically just be a waiter but he also works as a bartender when a shift needs to be filled and basically just doubles as a bouncer at all times. he overworks himself too much honestly press f to pay respects. )
“I feel lightheaded.”
He stared for a couple seconds at the shorter demon. Did they have too much to drink or something? Cognac walked up next to them, mostly for his job obligation but just a bit because it would feel wrong to just leave them. They weren’t one of the normal tough guys who came around here. Funny, even a former serial killer in Hell somehow has morals.
“Are you alright?” he questioned, though his voice still sounded nonchalant as ever.

Injured
“Oh shit, are you alright?”
“Dude, I don’t think you’re alright.”
“Blood’s not supposed to be coming from there…”
“That looks broken.”
“Can you move your __?”
“Are you okay?”
“That doesn’t look good.”
“Who did this?”
“Did you do this to yourself?”
“How did this happen?”
“We need to get you to a hospital.”
“Do you need to go to a hospital?”
“That’s not supposed to bend that way.”
“Do you want me to look at it?”
“Don’t move, you’ll make it worse!”
“Stop moving!”
“There’s so much blood.”
“I’ll see if I have a first aid kit.”
“Just… Stay here and I’ll get help.”
“How did you even do this?”
“This happened in a fight?”
“Walk it off.”
“It’s not that bad.”
“I think you need stitches.”
“You dumbass.”

“I think I hurt myself.”
“I can’t feel my __.”

“Stop laughing, this hurts.”
“My last words better not be stupid.”
“That was a dumb idea.”
“Shit, that burns.”
“I’m fine… really.”
“Damn, I can’t get the bleeding to stop.”
“I got into a fight…”
“I feel lightheaded.”
“It hurts to move.”
“Can you look at it for me?”

For a split second, it looked as though the other demon was going to bolt. That simply wouldn’t do! He was here as an ambassador for Charlie’s project, not to send people running down the street. Terrorizing was a hobby to be enjoyed on his own time, not while drumming up business.
Alastor carefully observed his face, gaze tracing every minuscule movement, if the gentleman was going to run, he’d better head it off at the pass. Hard to tell if the other demon was close to running, fainting or if he was naturally that shade of gray. Another smile and nod, he decided to let the gentleman talk, put him more at ease and open to the offer, though it was difficult to bite his tongue and wait.
Took a step closer, wide eyed and kept up his smile, though the grin did expand in time with his footfalls.
“Why a vacation, my good sir!” A flick of his right wrist and Alastor produced a card, then bowed deeply, long arm extended to hold the card out but keep a sizable distance between them.
“I’m here on behalf of the Happy Hotel. I’m sure you’ve heard about it on the picture show. My first instinct was to offer you a job, but our hotel already has a bartender and he’s rather possessive over his liquor, if you catch my drift.”
Canned laughter emitted from his microphone, underpinned by his own private chuckle.
“Besides, it looks like some rest and relaxation” said as the radio demon gave an exaggerated tilt of his head from left to right, eyes closed briefly.
“Would be just the ticket to cure your ills and help clear up those bruises! No need to worry about your job, I can arrange a deal with your boss. All you need to worry about is picking a room and enjoying the amenities of the Happy Hotel.”
His eyes snapped open, grin easily twice the width and height it started at,
“Doesn’t that sound swell?”
He admittedly jumped back just a bit when the other demon suddenly pulled out the card. How embarrassing. He felt his face get a bit warmer and for once was thankful that the dark gray shade of his skin would make it hard to see. He gently but swiftly grabbed the card and narrowed his eyes at it.
“Yeah, I’ve heard of it...” he stated simply, recalling the disastrous newscast. If anything, the princess’ fist fight with Katie Killjoy was pretty funny.
Personally, Cognac thought the hotel was an incredibly stupid idea. But as the Radio Demon tried to sell it to him, he figured speaking his mind would be a poor decision. The shorter demon was not in the mood to be eviscerated tonight. And then- oh dear god. That smile was horrifying.
“Y-yeah that sounds... real swell.” he managed to stammer out. Nope nope nope, he was not going to dare to disagree with this guy. Not when he was making a face like that. Cognac was a tough guy and could take on quite a few demons. This was not one of them.
He... really didn’t want to waste his time with this. He liked his routine and change was just too much of a hassle. At least he didn’t have to worry about losing his job. Sheila was going to absolutely freak if she saw the infamous Radio Demon walk into her shitty little bar. Actually, Cognac kind of wished he could see her face. If he wasn’t currently about to shit bricks he’d probably have let out a little laugh.

Ah, the stunned silence and twisted expressions of terror, no matter how brief; was delicious to indulge in. It was nice to be reminded from time to time, of how many people feared his reputation and deeds. As fleeting as it had been, and not quite as terrified as Alastor would have hoped; he also welcomed the gentleman’s gruff demeanor.
While fear was exquisite on it’s own, it did get rather tiresome when that was the only reaction one received. Alastor nodded along. Yes, he would have guessed bouncer first, perhaps professional fighter second, but bartender did make sense.
If humans treated those in the food and service industry like garbage, it was only fair that demons saw their servers as beneath them and willing to take a beating as well.
“Tragic, but as my mother always said, you can’t have short ribs without breaking the whole cage. Perhaps he’ll learn his lesson from that and not challenge you again.”
Doubtful. Demons could beat the, pardon the phrase; literal hell out of one another or take a similar beating, then within a few days were back to resorting to violence. One of the perks of being a denizen of Hell, to be honest.
“I can see you had a difficult time, so I beg your pardon at my intrusion while you’re off to tend to your wounds. There is however a matter of business, a golden opportunity if you will, that I would like to pose, but only if you’d feel it’d ease the sting out of your black eye. If not, I can leave a card and be on my way.”
Cognac was starting to wonder if he was just fucked at this point. Everyone in Hell knew about the Radio Demon and the raw power he possessed. Cognac could handle a few drunk assholes, but not whatever the hell this man was. He quietly decided that if he had to try to make a break for it, he would. It absolutely would not make him a coward.
As the demon continued speaking, Cognac could feel his muscles somehow become more tense. Just hearing this guy talk in person was pretty damn nerve-wracking.
“Idiots like that ain’t ever gonna learn their lesson. Doesn’t matter, I’ll just beat his ass again if he causes more trouble.” he replied coolly. The years of practice in keeping his calm really paid off. Even if his voice was so close to wavering and he spoke a little too fast.
And then the red-clad demon... offered him an opportunity? Whatever the hell that means. The offer for him to just leave (to hopefully never see him again) was very, very tempting, but Cognac’s curiosity was piqued. At least hearing the guy out was probably the best course of action, right?
“...What kind of opportunity?” he slowly asked, managing to look the taller demon in the eyes.
(THAT FEELING WHEN TUMBLR REBLOGS A POST WHEN YOU’RE SURE YOU CLICKED TO PUT IT IN DRAFTS????)
arsenicstatic:
For his part, Alastor’s evening had been uneventful. People were still reeling from the latest population purge, so it was nothing but terf wars, burning buildings and bodies in the street. Still, he had seen one of these days and see many more in his future, so to him little if any of the scenery had changed.
He took the time to admire a rather flattering depiction of a new wanted poster, before taking notice of the gentleman stubbing out his cigarette. Striding towards the man, forgoing an introduction Alastor went right on to pointing the obvious.
“Quite the shinier you’ve got there. Shall I take a guess and assume the other guy,” takes a gander at the bruises, “or guys, look worse off than you?”
Needless to say, Cognac didn’t exactly expect anyone to talk to him. People around here usually kept to themselves (unless they were mugging you). The demon was about to snarl out about how he ‘wasn’t in the mood’, or something along those lines, when he actually looked at the other’s appearance.
Oh shit. Well, he’d never seen this guy in person but he’d seen the posters scattered around Hell; ‘Beware the Radio Demon’. Just great. As if his night wasn’t bad enough. Perhaps against better judgement, even as his muscles tensed, he gave the other a slight glare. As good as he could with his messed up face, anyway.
“’Work at a bar, had a few fights tonight.” he finally replied in his slightly accented voice, managing to keep his cool, “You’re right in your assumption. None of ‘em stood a chance. ‘Least one of ‘em crawled out with some broken ribs.” he couldn’t help but smirk just a bit at the last part.
Tonight had been utter shit. Well, even more so than usual. Cognac had to break up three fights in the span of just an hour and by the end of his shift he ended up looking like hot garbage. His boss had made a point to remind him to fix himself by tomorrow night, to which he bit his tongue and managed to spit out a ‘goodbye’.
So here he was, standing in an alley next to his shitty apartment building and smoking in an attempt to calm his nerves. In the end he just ended up smashing the cigarette under his shoe. His wounds throbbed and he hadn’t looked at himself in a mirror but he was pretty sure he had a black eye.
“Ain’t that just fuckin’ great...” Cognac grumbled to himself as he continued to curse under his breath.

1. Does sleep come easy to them or no? What does their bedtime routine look like?
Honestly he has troubles with insomnia. He can go days without sleeping. Most of the time he doesn’t even bother actually trying to sleep and just passes out wherever (usually on the couch).
4. Do they play an instrument? If not, have the ever wanted to learn?
He used to be able to play the trumpet when he was younger but hasn’t attempted to in so long. Honestly he’s probably mostly forgotten how to or, at the very least, is very rusty.
9. What is their relationship with their extended family like? Are they the kind of person who’s very close to aunts, uncles, and cousins? Or are they the kind of person who barely remembers they exist?
When he was alive he was around his extended family a lot as a kid since they lived close by, but ended up distancing himself from basically his entire family as he got older. He doesn’t really care very much about them, honestly.
