The tour finally ended, leaving Kate completely speechless regarding the size and the beauty of the Bridgerton House. As much as she already knew most of the rooms, Kate never ceased being fascinated by the decorating skills of Lady Bridgerton.

It was her very first day as the new maid, the one who would take care of Daphne. It was agreed between Lady Bridgerton and Ross Hopkins that the woman would work for the Bridgerton household. After years spent running in the kitchens, often hiding behind her mother's legs, Kate was of age to take over and honour the memory of her late mother. "That will be all, Kate. I will let you discover your own quarters and you shall start tomorrow morning." Violet Bridgerton smiled at her as Kate nodded her head respectfully. "Yes, Lady Bridgerton. Thank you for the tour."

Slowly dismissing herself, Kate walked in the direction of the staff's quarters. Her heart raced as she couldn't help but feel overjoyed with the idea of working for one of the most influent families of the ton. While walking down the corridors, her green hues were too occupied detailing every single family portrait and she found herself bumping into the Viscount himself. Or more the new Viscount, son of the late Edmund Bridgerton: Anthony Bridgerton.

Gasping, Kate felt her cheeks turn instantly crimson as she looked at Anthony with a horrified expression on her face. "My Lord! I am so deeply sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going..." She sighed and tried to compose herself, standing tall and proud before him.

"I am Kate, Miss Daphne's new maid."

Anthony was midway through the long corridor when his attention snagged on a figure he did not immediately recognize. His gaze lingered a moment too long, curiosity getting the better of him, and the next thing he knew his toe struck sharply against the leg of a nearby table. He hissed under his breath, stumbling forward just enough to make an impression he would later regret.

“Oh—my apologies,” he said quickly, straightening and offering a sheepish half-smile to the woman he had nearly collided with. Close up, she looked just as startled as he felt. After a brief, awkward pause, introductions were made, and he learned her name was Kate, newly arrived and part of the household staff—more specifically, Daphne’s maid.

“Well then,” Anthony said, recovering his usual composure with practiced ease, “it’s a pleasure to meet you properly.” He inclined his head slightly. “I’m Viscount Anthony Bridgerton—though you may call me Anthony, at least when my mother isn’t within earshot.” A smirk tugged at his mouth as he imagined Lady Bridgerton’s inevitable lecture about propriety, titles, and setting a respectable example. He had heard it all before.

He glanced down the corridor as if expecting said mother to appear at any moment before returning his attention to Kate. “Have you made yourself comfortable yet? Settling into a new household can be daunting, I imagine.” His tone softened. “That said, I must assure you my sister Daphne is quite easy to work with. She’s not at all demanding—far more patient than the rest of us, truth be told—so I’m certain you’ll find your place here just fine.”

Anthony offered an encouraging smile, already convinced that Kate would do well among them, even if their meeting had been marked by clumsiness rather than grace.

Kate had just recovered her old title, discovered that she was actually a woman of the ton. All of a sudden, the young woman went from invisible, a woman of the shadow, to a woman coming from a long line of Dukes and Counts: the Hastings. Thanks to her cousin, Simon, Kate stepped into the ton naturally and gracefully. This world that once felt so distant to her was now embracing her, welcoming her as if she always belonged to it.

Without any parent nor sibling alive, it was Simon who stepped up and ensured she wouldn't make any faux-pas. When the Duke had announced to her that he had found the perfect husband for her, Kate wanted to protest. She had barely reclaimed her true identity that she was already betrothed to someone she never met. The only slight hope she had was that it was Simon's brother in law. Kate was very fond of Daphne and if her brother was as decent and kind as she was, then perhaps he would have a chance with the brunette.

As she stepped forward, Kate only met incredible hues and warm features. There was something in this man that made her feel at peace, comfortable and safe. Her muscles relaxed as she took a deep breath and offered Benedict a kind smile before bowing her head gracefully.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Benedict." Pausing, Kate looked at Simon before then looking back at her betrothed. "I do hope that the travel was smooth? Rest assured, you shall have a proper and decent stay. I will make sure you don't miss of anything."

In comparison to Kate, Benedict considered himself a remarkably simple man. Yes, the Bridgertons carried a certain amount of fame—if not outright notoriety—but as the second son, so long as Anthony continued breathing and bearing the weight of duty, Benedict would be spared its heavier demands. His role was comfortable, almost enviable: no estates to manage, no lineage to safeguard, no expectations beyond eventually choosing a wife and doing so respectably enough to keep society satisfied.

So when Simon had first proposed the idea, Benedict had been openly skeptical. Curious, perhaps—but cautious. He had expected polite indifference at best.

Yet now, with the woman standing before him, all carefully arranged thoughts abandoned him. His heart betrayed him utterly, hammering so loudly in his chest that he was half-certain she could hear it. There was a warmth to her presence, an ease that unsettled him far more than formality ever could.

“The pleasure is certainly all mine,” he said, the words coming easily as a wide, genuine smile spread across his face. He inclined his head slightly, eyes bright with amusement. “All pleasant, thanks to Simon’s stories. They were… creative, to say the least.” A quiet snicker escaped him as he recalled one particular tale involving his eldest brother, a chamber pot, and—most memorably—a bed full of eels.

He cleared his throat, still smiling. “I am certain of it,” he added, voice softer now, “with such a lovely host as yourself.”

colin bridgerton was not excited as he probably should be to get married. he had agreed to help his family, as well as the old family friend (though he didn't know them well, so how close could they have been) he wondered. still he loved his family and he would do what he must. after all, he had tried the rake lifestyle, and he did not enjoy it as much as his peers and his brothers had, so maybe marriage would give him the excuse to stop pretending. after all, he would never be unfaithful to his wife, regardless of what brought them together.

colin was also taken aback by his soon to be bride, penelope featherington. she was.. well she was quite attractive. she had large blue eyes, she had curves, which colin always liked in a women, and her hair was so red, the light from the candles flickered against it, making it almost like fire itself. why on earth would she agree or even need an arranged marriage? she was pretty enough to find a husband another way, he thought. perhaps this wouldn't be so bad, he certainly could've gotten saddled with a worse wife.

he was one to never be at a loss for words, but he truly did not know what to say. it was a sort of get to know you party his mother had thrown, also acting as an engagement party. colin made his way over to penelope, and smiled somewhat awkwardly. besides saying greetings when they first arrived, they hadn't spoken to one another.

“All is well, Lord Bridgerton,” she said softly, though her voice trembled despite her best efforts. She offered him a smile—small, hopeful, and far too sincere for her own good.

“I hope you are enjoying your evening,” she continued, forcing the words past the ache in her chest. “I must confess, it has been rather dull. I had hoped to dance… yet I have had only a single gentleman ask me.”

Her gaze flickered briefly to the polished floor between them before returning to his face, her heart whispering a question she would never dare ask aloud. She did not expect him to offer her more—not his hand, not his attention, and certainly not his love.

And yet, as she stood before him, she could not help but yearn for all of it.

sophie bridgerton woke early and decided to go out to her garden. her flowers had bloomed wonderfully and she couldn't wait to bring them in. she hummed to herself as she began picking a few of each kind, getting a variety to make a bouquet. she had never known life could be so wonderful. as she reached for a flower, she saw her wedding ring almost sparkle.

it had been just 3 months since she married her husband benedict bridgerton, and still did not feel real. she had no doubt he loved her as much as she loved him, as much as any human could love another, but it still felt like a dream. she had been an illegitimate daughter, made to work as a servant, she fell in love with benedict at a ball, where he had no clue who she was, finally found their way back, to each other and married, it was a wonderful fairytale but it was real.

she brought the flowers in, giving some to mrs crabtree, where mr crabtree joked that she was making him look bad since he hadn't gotten his wife flowers, and helped her prepare breakfast. she knew as the lady of the home she did not have to, but she enjoyed being helpful, especially knowing she did not have to. she wondered when her husband would awake, thought she'd never bother him

His arm drifted instinctively across the bed, fingers searching for familiar warmth, only to meet cool linen instead. He groaned softly, the sound half complaint, half disappointment, before finally cracking one eye open. Creative soul or not, Benedict had never truly been a morning person—though once awake, his mind had an irritating habit of leaping fully into consciousness, refusing him the mercy of drifting back to sleep.

“Sophie, dearest?” he called, voice still thick with sleep as he pushed himself upright. A flicker of anxiety stirred in his chest at her absence. Sophie possessed a beauty that drew attention as naturally as flowers drew bees, and while she wore the name Bridgerton now, Benedict could not help but feel the old instinct to guard her. Not that any sensible gentleman would dare pursue the wife of a Bridgerton—one would have to be profoundly idiotic—but still, the thought lingered.

He rose and followed the quiet sounds drifting in from the adjoining room, only to pause when he caught sight of her near the window. Sophie stood bathed in morning light, tending to a small arrangement of flowers she must have gathered earlier, her focus gentle and unhurried. The sight softened him instantly. She turned at the sound of his footsteps, smiling in that way that always felt as though it were meant only for him.

He returned her smile, crossing the room to stand beside her. His gaze lingered on the blooms before shifting back to her face, fondness unmistakable. “They’ve become quite lovely, have they not?” he said lightly, reaching out to brush a petal with his fingertip. Then, quieter, warmer, his eyes never leaving hers, he added, “Though not nearly as much as you, Soph.”
