the hardest part of the job is breaking the news that lactose intolerance is more permanent than death
DP x DC prompt;
"I'm sorry, Hood. Can you repeat that? There is no way I heard that correctly."
"No, you did hear me right. I am surrounded by at least 50 Talon and all of them and myself are at least partially mind-controlled by this meta. Good news: he appearantly only wants someone to take care of him. Bad news: he's only 4 months old and doesn't understand I'm not his dad. Please help."
Or: a de-aged Danny ends up accidentally Ghost King-ing his way into a really weird family.
Tim, getting stalked by the LoA: Ra's, you remind me of myself when I was nine. Get a new hobby!
I was just being nice, is that a crime now?
The Bats were scared when they learned of the Jokers newest obsession. A young man, he owned his own little repair shop at the edge of Crime Alley. Jason told them about the man, Danny, who liked repairing things or tinkering with them and letting people pay whatever they felt most comfortable with.
"His Godfather is a billionaire apparently. Gus heard them talk one day, Danny seems to take the guys money but won't spend it on fancy shit."
So they watched, they stalked, they researched and found out about Danny. What made the Joker so obsessed? Steph was the one finding the video, she was watching tiktoks with Cass. And there was a video from a baffled gothamite in a shop, the Joker entered, starting his spiel, then Danny entered.
"Oh I'm so sorry!" Joker looked at Danny.
"How about I make it up to you, here take my pastry. I can just get another one." Danny smiled and gave the Joker a pat on his shoulder, then left. Joker held the bag with unidentified pastry.
And then they found footage of the Joker, always near Danny, stalking him. He seemed to not want to do anything to the guy, but he kept looking. And then they saw what had started the investigation. Someone tried to mug Danny.
Danny smiled and pulled out all his cash from his wallet to give the guy. "Take it, looks like you need it more."
Bruce was getting flashbacks, desperately trying not to see his father hand over his wallet to his soon-to-be murderer.
The mugger took the cash and ran off, Danny kept going on his way, the Joker met the mugger just two blocks down. The mugger was still laughing, Joker took the money and broke into Danny's shop, leaving it with a note on the register.
Again, again and again they found footage of people trying something, Danny letting them go with no worry and the Joker seemingly getting revenge.
"Do you think he's in some twisted kind of love?"
"Ew, never say anything again Timbit!"
Danny was nice, the Joker was obsessed and at some point Harley met Danny, hugged him and slipped something into his pocket before she left, Danny waved her goodbye.
Babs eventually found a camera feed with the Joker talking about Danny to one of his goons.
"He is to not be touched! His world is sugar and candy, no spice! Look at Gotham trying to corrupt him and yet! And yet! He keeps being nice. Ahahahaha! Brilliant! A shining star in Gothams smog!"
Whatever this new obsession was, it was still dangerous and they were going to get the clown back to Arkham. They should probably make sure they kept an eye on Danny, just in case something happened.
Tim Drake's Horrors (literal)
The Day 2 fic I've written for whumptober is probably one of my favorites XD The title is 'The Twisted Tale of Tim Drake', which in itself sounds fun.
Basically, it's an AU where Tim sees hallucinations which he calls The Horrors (he's like eight, give me a break). These Horrors are characters from the non-age-appropriate stories Janet told him when he was younger to discipline him. I pulled out these Horrors from stuff I used to watch as a kid like Courage the Cowardly Dog, Flapjack and Coraline, and just some "Horrors" I imagined up as a kid myself (I did not hallucinate, don't worry, the ones I imagined up were on purpose, i'm not crazy I swear). Now that I've finished the fic and left it as a oneshot, there are SO MANY things about this AU that I want to explore more.
Once you read the fic, you'll understand it more, but here's a bit of how they work:
~~~
The Horrors only ever came during the night, they hated sunlight and loved the shadows. They also avoided his parents, so they were never there when Jack and Janet were home, which wasn’t very often. They never spoke, but always listened. Never touched things and didn’t like being touched either. And they never ever came more than two feet close to Tim. Once he realized that, he wasn’t too bothered by their presence.
He still was, don’t get him wrong. He was terrified of the monsters that followed him like shadows. Goosebumps never failed to break out all over his skin every time they came. They appeared often enough that he didn’t pass out of fear, but sparse enough to make his heart jump and race every time.
One thing that Tim found interesting though, was that just like his parents, the Horrors seemed to avoid Gotham’s vigilantes too. Every time he spotted Robin or Batman or Batgirl during his Gotham night outings, they disappeared in a blink. Then as soon as they were gone, they apparated back just as quickly. It made him love Gotham night outings even more.
~~~
Here are some examples of what they look like:
~~~
"Since then, with every passing week he spent alone in a giant, creaky, empty manor, Tim met more and more of the Horrors. He met Rasma the man made of strings, Tispy the giant floating white head, Juno the hungry snake with caterpillar feet, Dolly the doll whose eyes and tongue popped out of her head every few minutes, and many more."
"He was out, fiddling with his camera, when Pan the red boy who could fly appeared out of nowhere on the rooftop across from him. It waved at him, the blood on his hand flying everywhere. It laughed without sound at his horrorstruck face with a pointing finger."
~~~
My further thoughts on this AU:
Tim's Horrors are there to help him and warn him of danger, making him especially tuned to his surroundings
They watch over him like his personal guardian angels (or demons)
No one else can see them except Tim, so he won't be discovered when they try to help him
But this also means that he can't use them to his advantage during fights or interrogations to scare criminals (and sometimes siblings)
They don't talk so Tim has to rely on their body language cues which gets even harder seeing as their bodies are weird amalgamations
They do still disappear when Tim's safe people arrive though. So Tim can feel completely safe with them.
But somewhere along the line, after the events of the fic, Jack and Janet stop being safe for Tim and the Horrors are there at the same time as they are to help him cope.
Even though he gets used to seeing the Horrors and doesn't get as scared anymore, he still spirals into a freak out and even a panic attack sometimes when a new Horror shows up, because Tim hasn't becomes used to it yet.
One of my favourite parts of this concept is a spoiler for the fic, but has something to do with Tim and his relationship with the emotion of fear.
I'm not sure whether to make them just Tim's hallucinations, or actual beings from another world who have taken a liking to Tim.
I mean, the fic definitely implies the latter even though I haven't made up my mind yet. Because if these are just hallucinations, then the limits of what they can do to help Tim are very large.
If they are otherworldly beings, then is it just one being in different forms or several beings who just collectively like Tim and want to protect him.
If they're a group, then did one of them go like "Yo, I found this cute neglected kid. Check it out."
They've all just adopted Tim as their own child. Tim just has that sort of face where the people who meet him can't help but adopt him. It happened with Bruce, it happened with Jason, it happened with Dick and Alfred and Barbara. It's really not that crazy to think that these alien, ethereal terrors from a secret circle of hell want to adopt him too.
By the time Tim becomes Robin, he grows more comfortable with his Horrors and has figured out how to train them to help him during fights. He hones this talent so well that the Horrors work just as well as Duke's powers too, except they don't require light and are okay in almost every situation.
They shield Tim strongly from mind-control and mind-reading because anyone who tries to get in his head sees the Horror and immediately backs out (also important to note that the Martian Manhunter and Miss Martian are now extremely terrified of him and leave the room as soon as he appears. His Horrors find it funny, Tim does too but doesn't openly say it).
People often find him talking to himself. Only the batfam (and the martians) know that he's really talking to his Horrors. Cue interactions like:
"Jason, my Horrors say that I shouldn't forgive you for what you did at Titans Tower. The only exception is if you grant me ten no-questions-asked favors and bake me 3 cakes and a 5-course-meal. Oh and twenty hugs."
"Damian, I know you cut my grapple line. Go and fix it right now before I tell Rasma to visit you in your sleep." (they can't, but he's not about to let him know that)
"Dick, Dolly says that you look very nice in that shirt. I think she has a bit of a crush on you *wink*." "Tim, I know that your Horrors' version of beautiful means a mixture of the ugliest and most horrendous things to ever exist on Earth. I saw you complaining about how Dolly finds literal dogshit attractive. I'm not falling for that *puts shirt away*" Tim: *grumbles and walks away*
Bruce finds Tim's hallucinations concerning, but he can't help but admit that he's fascinated by them too. He asks Tim about them in a way dads ask their daughters about their friends like, "Tim? What do your Horrors say about Scarecrow's new strand of fear toxin." "Everything alright with you and your Horrors? You seem really upset." "Interesting. Tell me more about Uloo's paper-eating obsession."
Damian gets jealous a few times because he wants to have horrifying hallucination friends like Tim too. But one day, he walks in on Tim having a panic attack and freaking out at a new Horror who just appeared, throwing Tim off because he wasn't used to this one.
Damian enters the room and the Horror disappears, leaving Tim sobbing in relief. After that, Damian realizes just how much Tim was actually hiding under his cheerful mask.
Damian creates a system so that there is at least one person available near Tim every time a new Horror appears (which doesn't happen as often as it used to, but they change every week).
Tim is very grateful to have the people he does now.
That's all I have for now!
I'm really really excited for you guys to read this fic ^^ If you have any more questions, comments or even new ideas for this AU, please lmk!!
Consequences of the Justice League
DP x DC Prompt
The Justice League has had Red Huntress on their list of people to recruit. Yet, they were told to wait because of Constantine. He said that Ghosts are not what they think, and recruiting Red Huntress before Constantine reaches out to Phantom could have dire consequences.
If Constantine is right, then Phantom is a Protector Spirit. And he will need to learn more about Protector Spirits to get Phantom to join Justice League Dark BEFORE the Justice League recruits Red Huntress.
From what the Hellblazer has learned from other Ghosts and such, Phantom is a Protector Spirit that is dangerously close to abandoning his role.
A Protector Spirit that abandons its role is incredibly dangerous. As a Protector Spirit keeps the worst of the worst at bay with just their presence alone. And if a gate to the Infinite Realms has no Protector Spirit nearby, then malevolent Ghosts will come rushing through the gate and cause a lot of destruction wherever they go. Once those malevolent Ghosts are in the living world, they get stronger and more confident. The only way to get those malevolent Ghosts back into the Infinite Realms is with the Protector Spirit that they feared to beat them back into the gate they came from.
Constantine was about to go and recruit Phantom and help the Protector Spirit move the gate, he hears that Red Huntress has been recruited, in front of Phantom, who had quickly run away soon after.
Now they need to find Phantom soon, as in less than a day, the Lingering presence of the Protector Spirit will fade from the gate he was guarding, and then they will be under the constant attacks of malevolent Ghosts because of the Justice League being to impatient.
Danny had blasted away the moment he figured he could. What the hell was up with that sad, sad, jigsaw-souled man? The justice league were cool and all, and he could definitely see the need for a ghost specialist on the side of the heroes.
Even if Constantine is right, Danny is half human. He has human dreams and desires for his future. He didn't want to be a hero in the first place! He did it because there was no one else available. Better come up with a better solution than convincing Danny to stay, because he deserves to be able to pursue his own future.
I need one of the Ancients to go looking for "the Great One", "the little Dreamer/Star", "young Warrior", "friend of the Daughter of the Green", "Storm Wielder".
Frost Bite, Nocturn, Pandora, Undergrowth, and even Vortex were not told of Phantom leaving his portal. They didn't think he even could. It's not like he's a regular Protector Spirit, this was his Grave! Most Ghosts can't leave their Graves for very long and prefer to have a Haunt around it. Of course, Phantom's Haunt was massive, even compared to older Ghosts. A whole town, plus some of the area outside it. That didn't stop the fact Phantom slept right above his Grave for most of his existence!
He's only four years dead! He needed the ectoplasm to grow.
He's a toddler compared to other Ghosts, but a fetus to the Ancients.
Clockwork refuses to say anything, but even his mood is down. Which only riles the other Ancient and Unquiet Dead. Many question if the GIW or Fenton's did something to him. And the Red Huntress suddenly having backup doesn't help. Especially as true monsters start coming through the Portal.
Meanwhile, Danny's having fun and is so excited for classes! He's relating to his peers. His food isn't attacking him. He can get a full night's rest! The only thing that sucks is the light pollution.
Which is easily fixed by flying into the atmosphere himself.
He has to have a Ghost clone hold him while he, in human form, holds the camera to take pictures and send to his friends. It helps prevent the static from Ghost powers.
"Danny, you'll need to go down. Soon. You're getting too cold."
"Don't worry Janus." Which was what he called any other facet of himself, given the god had two faces. "Just a few more pictures. I need to bring a coat next time."
"And probably a blanket."
"Yeah. Okay. I'm done. Look at this one!"
"Oh, sick!"
Superman watches, and listens, from afar. And makes some revelations while watching the pair. As well as making his own conclusions.
Sorry Amity. Blame the Fentons for building the portal in the first place.
I think the ancients/full ghosts are experiencing misunderstandings about Danny's perspective, because Danny isn't a full ghost. Danny has a lot more mental flexibility than a ghost because he's still half human.
The whole infantilization angle is something that always rubbed me wrong in baby ghost Danny fics. He might not be a matured ghost, but he's still mentally a human teenager and maturing at a human pace.
Understandable! I think it's really only the Ancients that do the infantilization., TBH. While the regular Ghosts all view Danny in the lense of a Full Ghost sometimes, they don't view him as a child outside his actual age. So, when he was 14? They treated him the same why they'd treat a freshman in highschool. Now that he's an actual adult? That's an adult. A young adult, but he's still an adult.
I also think it'd be interesting if they knew that, while put into the role by fate, Phantom isn't Obsessed with protecting others or protecting his Gate/Portal/Grave. Phantom didn't knowingly make Amity Park his Haunt. He's specifically doing all the fighting and protecting because he feels guilty about helping open the portal. Because he feels responsible. Because he was the only one who could.
They know that. Even if the Ancients don't.
But it doesn't explain why he suddenly disappeared. He didn't even say goodbye. Where was their reluctant Protector, who made sure both Ghost and Human were safe? Who was going to fight with them? Who was going to make fudge for the Christmas Truce?
Who was going to stop beings like Spectra from coming out and hurting humans and Ghosts alike?
Amity definitely blames the Fenton's. Mostly the parents, since both kids are moved away.
I really want Constantine to look at a picture from when Phantom was just starting as a hero and comparing it to the young man he saw. Ghosts rarely ever age. Usually only as a change in perception of themselves or is a reaction to growing into more power.
Talking to the few Ghosts of the Infinite Realms explains a bit. That Phantom technically beat the Ghost King in combat, even if it was just pushing him back into his Sarcophagus of Forever Sleep. And using Fenton Technology.
Which, given that Superman revealed that Phantom followed the son to Metropolis and seemed very close? Explains some thing's. The fact the Protector Spirit decided long ago not to protect it's Gate, but a person, isn't really encouraging. It just means they have to convince the Fenton to come back.
Oh, I love this so much. Fake Pitch pearl is one of my favorite types of misunderstandings, especially if Danny commits to the bit.
Now, what does the League knows after a bit of research and gently interrogating Phantom's(Janus?) usual rouges and allies?
1) Apparently, the gate counts as Phantom's grave. Constantine feels his headache get even worse cause, holy fuck, he didn't get the whole explanation of what went down when the league confronted Phantom, but it has to be BAD if they managed to make a ghost voluntarily leave his resting place.
2) Phantom was never really enthusiastic about being Amity's protector. But he did it anyway, even when everyone made him public enemy number 1. There where many occasions where Phantom seemed annoyed about having to deal with other ghosts attacking, still he always fought them. And he responded way quicker when the attack was at school (reaction that now they correlate to Danny being in immediate danger).
3) Unfortunately for many, Phantom is NOT bound to Amity or the gate. Phantom can, in fact, leave whenever he wants. And the League made him leave.
4) If they don't bring Phantom back, everyone's fucked.
And thanks to Superman, now they know Phantom is protecting Danny Fenton. So it's pretty obvious what they need to do next; convince Danny to go back to Amity.
Surely, if they talk with the boy, he will understand and cooperate... Or so they thought.
They were wrong.
Turns out Danny really likes what he has now and is not willing to give up from it just to fix Justice League's mistakes. Aren't they supposed to be the best heroes on the planet? Then they should find a way to fix things themselves.
When they asked Danny to at least call their boyfriend so they can maybe convince Phantom to go back and protect the gate, Danny looked at them like they were crazy. They thought that because he wasn't out of the closet, and because his parents wouldn't aprove his relationship with a ghost, Danny was pretending to not be Phantom's boyfriend. They insisted so much Danny just went "You know what? Fuck it. Yeah, Phantom's my boyfriend, no you cannot talk with him. Fuck off."
Can we add that while this is going on, Valerie is dealing with Genuinely Malevolent Ghosts that include Spectra as the least malevolent getting through?
Danny is FINALLY safe, finally able to learn and grow how he’s been denied For Years and is genuinely thriving. And Phantom openly only appears to go flying with Danny or stick close to him from JL pov.
Constantine also realizing that Phantom ONLY protected Amity as Danny lived there, and visibly did not want to and even helped train Red Huntress bothers Constantine as it isn’t quite adding up, but he has shit to do.
Finding out Danny was close with Phantom, likely the first nice person to him regarding the guy’s death and apologetic about the portal on his grave, resulting in Phantom seeing Danny being targeted by ghosts and deciding he will protect the human that protects him?
JLD share a loud swearing contest. Especially as Red Huntress admits Danny was not treated well in town, and well known to be neglected by his parents after the ghosts appeared with ecto weapons targeting him constantly. Danny was truamatized out of that town and not even an apocalypse ending event would convince him to put himself through that and put his entire life on hold again.
Danny? Chilling with his ‘boyfriend’ and got permission from his university, campus police and local gov to keep carry his ecto weapons openly as those malevolent ghosts? May avoid Phantom still but they see Danny as Weak Human. Danny reminds them he does not need Phantom—he’s the Fenton that got that stupid machine working and fixes the tech on the fly mid-battle. He’s the dangerous one they forgot, and is liberally reminding them to Fuck The Hell Off.
Danny is leaving the crisis to the professionals and will keep himself and his friends safe, but that’s about it. He’s been stuck mostly ghost for four years and it chaffed his being. He’s half ghost sure, but he’s human too and humans adapt and are malleable. Plus, he never liked his ‘grave’ as it felt incorrect. He died there sure, but no one memorialized him and he’s still rocking his body so its his death place—not his grave. He doesnt claim it.
Are all sorts of genuinely dangerous things escaping? Sure.
Danny’s chilling at Ember’s pre-concert show room while they catch up and she’s just happy he’s living his life and ‘acting like the teen he is, not what The Man wants to make him’. If skulker is helping do a tech check while Danny plays security for her when she leaves, well. She agreed to active use of mind-control on the ghostly side, and he gets to let out mid-term rage on any ghostly party crashers as Janus and any creeps as Danny. Win-win.
When a normal rogue does try to break in, Danny has them dead to rights with a Fenton Net Gun and a small ecto-shot for them to stay silent while the show was going.
If this moment goes viral, well. Danny looks average so most don’t connect the dots.
Constantine does and complains to the JL as “Phantom’s boyfriend made ghost friends. And protects them from the living. I think we know how the two got together with his parents’ occupation.”
Red Huntress just reblogs the video and says “yeah, Danny’s always been like this with his people. Even back in middle school—go after him its fine, go after Tucker? Boy will be making sure that beating is split between them and manage some choice words when the ass isnt looking.”
She’s got Shit To Do and a JL salary now. Danny does answer her questions on more malevolent ghosts and how to take them out as ‘can you ask your ghost friends how i get rid of a wraith killing people?’ And Danny will get the correct answer on how to seal one when her tactics dont work, but that’s all he’s willing to do and she can’t blame him for it.
If Ember is seen acting as a protectress of Teens and actively hunting ghosts targetting them between sets? Danny just says ‘teen spirit is what she needs to live, why wouldn’t she protect them?’
Malevolent entities are crawling out from everywhere, but a lot of ghosts that have a protective aspect are being their own brand of helpful (think Lunch Lady ensuring better meals in low-income areas for schools and harassing everyone into passing these bills without the lunch debt nonsense, and if anyone tries shit in a cafeteria, congrats, she’s in Fight Mode with her obsession’s necessities around her. Run.)
Danny isnt acting as he sees this as what was going to happen since the portal opened. Raw malevolence is escaping sure, but there’s more good in ghosts than people give many credit for. Especially since Sydney’s made a point of organizing bullied ghosts to protect victims and stand up against bullies in school by any means necessary.
Ghost fights are just an everywhere issue now, not just amity.
JLD are not happy, nor the JL but Danny is doing nothing wrong and somehow lowering overt danger to wherever he is by making low-stakes deals with ghosts passing through metrolpolis U
I love this. Danny using his adaptability and Fenton skills to get to finally live his life. Plus everyone on the phantom side going along with the fake pitch pearl thing is hilarious.
It would be kind of funny if he did end up in a casual relationship with a ghost though. Hooking up no strings attached with Ember.
He tried with Val but there's just too much awkwardness between them.
A little doodle I did of a scene for the second chapter of Memento Mori (link) to tease a little of Danny's perspective of everything going on.
Small little excerpt!
Fine, fine. Show me your dad's vigilante man cave then. The laugh Jason barks out gets him a strange look, but the ghost will get it soon enough. --- As soon as Jason takes off his civilian helmet and can hear him again the ghost is up in his face. I am sorry. Your father actually has a real life literal man cave?? Unbelievable. "Does it make it any better when I tell you his alias is Batman and that this is the Batcave?" Ghostie just put's his head in his hands. No
Demon Twins AU
AKA "Danyal al-Ghul is seven minutes younger than Damian. Those seven minutes mean something."
Danny loved his older brother. Even when Talia favored Damian over him, even when Ra's spared no expense for his brother's care, even when Danny was left unprotected against their mentors' brutality without the title of heir. He swallowed the bitterness of jealousy and instead accepted any affection Damian could secretly give him away from Ra's prying eyes.
He knows Damian loved him, too. As much as Ra's and their mother allowed, as much as being in the league allowed. It was the hitch in Damian's breath when Danny was hit a little harder than usual, bread under his pillow when Danny was sent away without food, the twitch of his lips when Danny said an amusing joke. They could never hug, never speak openly, but Damian always had a small, secret space in his heart for his brother. (Danny and Damian learned early on to never show affection. Danny was once gifted a hawk for his birthday, only for Ra's to slaughter it once Danny had grown to love it. He had nightmares for months that Damian was forced to slaughter him. He woke up every morning feeling sick because he couldn't remember if he'd forgiven Damian in his dreams.)
The only thing that tested Danny's love for Damian was when he left. His mother didn't tell him that Damian was gone. He'd carefully crept into Damian bedroom one night, asking if he'd go stargazing with Danny, when he realized Damian was gone. All his clothes, weapons, gone. There was a single bare mattress. It wasn't until weeks after that Danny's mother told him Damian was sent on a mission as the heir to train with the notorious Dark Knight of Gotham, their father.
There was that bitterness but this time, Danny couldn't swallow it. The emotion sat in his throat like acid, burning in his eyes and throat until he could escape to his bedroom that night. Muffled a scream into his pillow and felt sick, agonizing fury. Jealousy, grief, resentment. It didn't subside for weeks, months, until aching loss of Damian's presence replaced it.
And then Danny's first and only mission.
Kill the heir. Murder his own brother. Danny's grandfather had always looked at him with contempt, hatred. But there was something truly terrifying in his voice when he'd gripped the back of Danny's neck, growled do not disappoint me, and released him into his mother's waiting arms. "He was softened by your father. Dulled and weakened. Don't forget, Danyal," Talia said to him. "The more you care for something, the more sway it has over you. The more it ruins you."
Danny hadn't believed her.
Even as he boarded the private plane, Danny wondered if he could join in Damian's life: fantasies of living in an apartment, stargazing, learning who his father is. Finally learning if Damian had started drawing like his hands always yearned to. Wondering he could see the stars in Gotham as well as in the desert. Danny was almost too eager to see his older brother again, practically giddy at the thought of a reunion away from Ra's and their mother.
Except Damian's hair is... longer. Two older boys are on either side of him and one reaches over to ruffle his hair. And Damian turns with a wide, unguarded smile that Danny's never seen. Watches as one of the other boys hands Damian a takeaway cup of coffee and Damian drinks it without any hesitation. Watches as they banter back and forth, Damian's shoulders no longer rigid with immaculate posture or tense with hypervigilance. Danny watches as Damian acts as if he... as if Danny never existed, as if he'd completely forgotten about him.
The all-consuming ache of Damian's absence is crippling. Worse still is the anger, the rage of being left behind and forgotten while he suffered. Danny was forgotten despite how many times he forgave, loved, hurt. This stranger stands in Damian's place.
(And maybe Danny's mother was right. Danny's never loved anything more than Damian, yet mere moments of watching his brother interact with his new family makes him feel... ruined. A forgotten memory to be tucked under Damian's bed like blunted pencils hidden from their grandfather.)
It... doesn't matter. Danyal al-Ghul has a mission to complete.
Damian has been softened. Danyal has been ruined. Damian has been weakened. Danyal has been betrayed.
Danyal continues watching his brother, building an understanding of patrol routes and connections and skills.
He is here for a mission. He is here to kill the disgraced heir.
Danyal tries to get his emotions under control, so he doesn't attack Damian with the rage of an abandoned brother but the coolness of a trained assassin. It's hard, the hardest thing he's ever done, to push down his rage and jealousy and grief and want.
This open, friendly, loving Damian? Danyal doesn't get that.
Danyal doesn't even get acknowledgement of his spying, and there's no way he's good enough Damian doesn't realize he's being watched.
Danyal slowly works through the pain, shoving his heart into a smaller and smaller box as he watches Damian's expand. Is this how Mother feels? Removed from affection so much she believes harsh, personal training is a hug? Is this how Grandfather feels, removed from the world and judging those still connected?
Assassin, assassin, assassin.
That's what Danyal is, more than a brother or child or heir-in-waiting. He has no emotions, just weapons.
It allows him to get the jump on Damian, tired from a long patrol. To slice the deserter heir's cheek. Break a rib. Plant a blade in Damian's torso.
It's not a vital spot. In the end, Danyal loves his brother too much. Loves him so much he'll allow him to live with brothers he obviously prefers.
"Dan-"
Danyal stands and looks down at his brother, bleeding out on the roof. His older brothers will be here soon, and Damian will be the youngester they fuss over.
And Danyal will be the left-behind, unwanted brother. Loved, briefly, as the LoA allowed, but ultimately not enough.
Not enough for Ra's. For Talia. For Damian.
"Keep the sword, Damian," Danyal says. "Proof you knew me."
He leaps off the roof seconds before Nightwing jumps on, leaving his sword in Damian's side.
He's failed his mission. Failed Mother's leason.
Danyal heads west, shedding lessons. Damian had looked so happy with his emotional freedom. Somewhere, there's an adopted sibling of Danyal's own that can make him smile like that.

Legacy of Chronos: Daughter of the Unknown God
Through her travels around the world/Infinite Realms, Ellie stumbles on Camp Halfblood and is mistaken for a demigod. She is determined to be a legacy of Cronus (Clockwork) and the child of an unknown god with a DP symbol (Danny).
Cue everyone mistaking Chronos for Kronos and thinking that the mystery god is a child of Kronos born sometime while he was in Tartarus. This misunderstanding is not helped by the fact that the Underworld is part of the Infinite Realms and portals to the Ghost Zone where often mistaken for portals to Tartarus.
Now Zeus is freaking out and wants to use Ellie as leverage against her father who obviously wants to take over Olympus. Percy/Thalia/Nico/Lester/whoever is now trying to keep Ellie out of Zeus’s paranoid clutches and get her back to Tartarus before her father goes looking for her.
(Ellie is so happy she made new friends, they’re even going to take her on a road trip to LA. Sure they seemed really nervous when she mentioned Danny would come looking for her if she didn’t check in soon, how was she supposed to know Hellhounds are cellphones anyway)

You really would think Dick had threatened Tim with Arkham when seeing his reaction.
I kinda wanna write a cryptid!Batman AU where Clark has explained to Kon that the Batman is a terrifying eldritch horror given human(-ish) form, actually, and Kon is therefore under the impression that Robin is going to be into weird shit like being brought damning evidence and deadly criminals and dangerous problems to solve and also will appreciate being occasionally stalked by a half-alien clone. The bat-cryptids stalk EVERYBODY, right? So it's fine, it's like their love language, Kon figures as he's collecting a bunch of random shiny trinkets to leave out for Robin like he thinks he's a fucking magpie or a crow or something, and maybe also some nice pebbles to cover the penguin angle just in case. Just, like, stuff he might like to decorate the cryptid-nest Kon is assuming he has with.
Kon is fully correct about Robin appreciating the weird shit and shiny trinkets and being reciprocally stalked, actually, although now TIM has to figure out how to explain to Superboy that he is actually just a normal human teenager who just decided that his local protection spirit needed an emotional support sidekick before it could get corrupted into a local VENGEANCE spirit. Though he does like the shinies, please don't assume this means he doesn't like the shinies or wants a normal relationship with, god forbid, boundaries about not stalking each other or whatever.
Dead on MAYn 2025 Day 3 Trope: Eldritch horror Danny/Monster fucker Jason Situation: The Batfam learn about Jason's boyfriend on accident
Day three of @deadonmayn!
Jason hadn't expected that his boyfriend/patron would meet his family like this. Neither did the Justice League expect a familiar face when petitioning the Ancient of Space for his help protecting their dimension's Earth.
I also wrote a little (1.2k) to go along with it :D -> AO3 link

tim "faking" a bicycle accident to get his neighbor to come help him, based on @upswings's post, which gripped me by the throat the moment i read it
extras:
Y’all know those fics where nightwing joins the justice league without anyone knowing about his connection to batman and stuff?
Well I need one where he joins the league and him and batman are able to act professional enough that no one even consider them knowing each other more than just as colleagues. They don’t seem particularly close, they work well together, which is to be expected considering how similar they are.
Literally everything is fine, no one has any doubts, it doesn’t cross anyone’s mind.
Then they walk in on them arguing.
At first it sounds like a classic argument that always happens when working on a team with someone. You’re bound to disagree on something at some point.
But then it starts to sound like the kind of argument that’s clearly a repeated thing. Whatever nightwing and batman are fighting about, they’ve faught about it before.
It starts sounding weirdly personnal. Too personnal for two coworkers who just started working together maybe a few months before.
It’s enough for the other members to start wondering if maybe the two might have known each other for longer than expected and have simply never mentionned it.
Then they hear it.
"Stop acting like you’re my father. I stopped being your responsibility a long time ago"
