🌟 Gold star for my Hubby! He knows that chocolate is pretty much always on the shopping list even when it isn't. But specifically today, "all the chocolate" may have been requested... 🙈 He also knows I'm trying to improve my health and not stress eat as much and eat more nutritious foods. I don't know about you, but there are 3 things that help heal my soul and bring me joy, and that's prayer, singing, and organizing things. 🙏🎤✨ Doing a lot of all 3 this weekend! Started with a pantry makeover as we make some changes to be a bit healthier, eat less junk, and see if it can help the little one better manage his ADHD behavior. Do you have a collection of anything? ⚾☕🏆 . . . Every time I travel somewhere, I buy a Christmas ornament. 🎄 If I can, I try to find something handmade with the year and place written on it. Then when it's time to decorate for Christmas, I look at all the ornaments and tell the stories that go along with each one. In this photo, a Peruvian man is engraving ornaments at the San Diego Zoo. Whenever I see the ornament I bought here, I think of him and of flying to the West Coast by myself when I was new to traveling and doing just about anything alone. I think about the homeless men on the street, Veronica Mars, going to a conference with 4000 people and knowing no one and being absolutely terrified, and making friends for only a few days but memories I'll cherish for a lifetime. . . . My kids love fancy cars, houses, and clothes, but for me my ornaments, photos, and journals are my priceless treasures! 🧡 . . . What do you collect? Looking for a healthy snack idea? I seriously cannot stop eating these! I call them "banana bread bars". They're super easy to make and have just 5 ingredients! . . You need: 🍌2 ripe bananas 🍌2 tablespoons peanut butter (it doesn't hurt anything if you add a little more though) 🍌2 scoops protein powder (I used a sugar-free vanilla whey powder) 🍌1 cup oats 🍌1/4 cup chocolate chips (use the sugar-free ones if you're concerned about carbs) . . Directions: 1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350 F. 2️⃣ Mash bananas. Then add peanut butter, oats, protein powder, and chocolate chips. 3️⃣ Mix until everything is combined. Mixture will be slightly runny. 4️⃣ Pour into 8x8 baking dish and bake for 15 minutes or until knife comes out clean. 5️⃣ Let cool and cut into squares. Refrigerate or freeze and eat. . . These are super filling and great for breakfast, dessert, and after a workout. I added some walnuts to mine as well. I made these in an effort to stop eating the sweet junk my kids eat, but they're so yummy I wanted to share! 💅Earlier this week I got a gel manicure, and it did not turn out well at all (scroll through to see the turquoise nails that look like I did them myself). By the time I made it home they looked awful. I don't like confrontation, but I wanted to get what I paid for, so I had resolved to call and ask if it would be possible to get it fixed. Not gonna lie, my stomach was in knots about it! I have had some baaadddd customer service experiences in my day. So I was so shocked to see this message on my phone: . . 📳"Hi, just checking on your nails. I didn't think the gel was sticking to them correctly last night. I let them bake extra time. How do they look today? If they are not, we can try it again if you like, no charge..." . . 💅I was so pleasantly surprised that she had went that extra mile and took responsibility. She redid them today, and they look great this time (isn't this such a fun shade of pink?)! She refused to let me pay or even tip her again, but she was thinking big because not only am I going to be bragging about this experience, but this has turned me into a loyal customer. No matter what industry you're in, good customer service is the most valuable asset you have, and it's free! And sadly, it is vastly overlooked by most companies. Remember how powerful it can be to simply smile, act like you give a crap, and treat the person on the other side of the register like a human being. 🤫 You asked...Hair secrets, revealed! 💇 . . Women have been coming up to me a lot recently asking me about my hair. They say they want to stop dying their hair and go natural, but they're too afraid. That was where I was about a year ago, too. But the truth is, the process wasn't as scary as I worried it would be. Because my silver hair is more prominent in the front than it is in the back, I decided to stop dying it and had some halo highlights put into my hair about a year ago, but I asked them to concentrate the highlights where my grays were and fade to the back. During this time I experimented with #ionpigments, which you can get at @sallybeauty very cheaply (I mix it with my conditioner and can get many many brightly colored days out of one bottle!). My favorite is to mix the Magenta with Hot Red for a rose gold look. 🌹⚜️ . . Over time, the highlights grew out, but the silver stayed. It actually was a lot less hassle and maintenance than trying to dye it brown every few weeks. I still play with the wash out colors sometimes, but I feel like I'm not hiding behind some mask and I'm more "me" now. I wish I had done this a long time ago! If fear is holding you back from trying it yourself, I say #doitscared. FOSTER PARENT JOURNEY: ONE YEAR LATER . . Yesterday was one year since we first got our youngest boy. The day was bittersweet because, while it was a celebration of us being all together, it was also a painful reminder of one of the worst days of his life. 💔 . . We took our "newborn" teenager out for a driving lesson and then took the kids to see some live music and out to eat at #jimoliverssmokehouse. On the way to Monteagle, we saw the most beautiful rainbow coming down the mountain, and we stopped by the train tracks to snap a quick pic. #framingit . . The rainbow felt like a promise, a sign that everything was going to work out the way it's supposed to for the boys. 🌈🏞️ . . The last year has taught me so much, but the most important lessons have been: . . 1️⃣ Just keep showing up day after day, even when it's hard. 2️⃣ Actions speak louder than words. 3️⃣ Nothing you do will ever feel good enough because of who you are and who you are not. Keep doing it anyway. 4️⃣ Even if you're a quiet, non-confrontational person, you'll be surprised at the person you'll become when someone threatens your child or his safety. 🐻🦁 5️⃣ If you didn't know the power of prayer and community before, well... Just get ready! 6️⃣ You'll love more than you think you can love, hurt more than you think you can hurt, and always feel like the rug is about to get ripped out from under you. Don't think about tomorrow.
